Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

What is this?

DynDOLOD is a set of tools based on TES5Edit and TES5LODGen to automatically create a Skyrim mod based on the load order which adds distant LOD for objects to Skyrim. By combining DynDOLOD with TES5LODGen users can create drastically enhanced traditional static LOD plus tree LOD and the new, optional dynamic distant object LOD in a few 'simple' steps.

DynDOLOD is meant for enthusiast modders who are familiar with using TES5Edit. Enthusiast modders have a general knowledge of computers, folders and files, especially Skyrims 'Data' folders and how to install mods safely with a manager or manually.

To fully expand the visual experience and use the additional features offered by TES5LODGen the DynDOLOD package comes with over 1000 new or updated LOD models for objects that were badly missing from the original game like the Skyhaven Temple or landscape features like roads, smaller rocks and dirt cliffs that simply make the distant landscape look much more natural and alive.

Requirements

SKSE

PapyrusUtil 2.8 or higher

DynDOLOD Resources - Make sure to use DynDOLOD Resources version only with matching or higher DynDOLOD Standalone versions but never with older versions.

Vanilla Skyrim LOD Billboards from TES5LODGen or Indistinguishable Vanilla Tree Billboards. If using tree mods that do not include billboards, check TES5LODGen for ready-to-use tree LOD billboards for some tree mods. For STEP users all billboards are included in STEP Texture Compilation.

In my setup there are some texture conflicts between Skyrim HD, Quality Snow HD and DynDOLOD:

 

..\textures\lod\dirt02lod.dds

..\textures\lod\dirt02lod_n.dds

..\textures\lod\farmhouselod01.dds

..\textures\lod\farmhouselod01_n.dds

..\textures\lod\fieldgrass01lod.dds

The Skyrim HD textures are higher res than (vanilla based?) DynDOLOD textures. Any experiences regaring to let Skyrim HD textures overwrite DynDOLOD ones before LOD generation? I remember having trouble with the Skyrim HD texture "...\textures\lod\mountainslablod.dds" upon my first DynDOLOD run. It had to be removed from the noalpha.txt file for a successful run.

Everything(rocks, buildings etc, and no purple textures) seems to work just fine, it's just that trees still popping in. Do I need an extra LOD mod for that? Or do I need to set a higher NearGridtoLoad for that?

Two quick and maybe uneducated guesses:

 

1. Maybe you are using wrong lod textures for your mod setup. If you have any tree related mods, check TES5LODGen files section for the billboard textures and apply them in the appropriate order. I had to use Vurt SFO 1.91 Regular LOD Billboards and SSBT LOD Billboards to make it look right.

 

2. Maybe running the DynDOLOD TexGen script (again) before LOD generation would help by creating the custom textures for your mod setup.

 

And always remember to do a full cleanup before running DynDOLOD generation again (prepare save game ingame, restore "empty" DynDOLOD.esp, clear TES5EDIT cache folder, clear old DynDOLOD TexGen and Worlds output).

I am following the STEP 2.2.9.1 instructions, but when creating worlds at medium I get CreateProcess failed Error code 2.

It's strange, I used DyndoLOD a couple of times before, but now I get this error and the script aborts very early. What should I do?

Error 2 means file not found, in this case "Edit Scripts\LODGen.exe" which is distributed with TES5Edit. You must reinstall TES5Edit and not forget to unpack everything from archive.

2D billboard LOD trees will be 2D billboard LOD trees as always.

 

you could either try to find or create better matching 2D billboards, or adjust brightness for tree LOD on the advanced so their color matches better.

Or try Options\trees.ultra\DynDOLOD-Trees.txt, but this will only work for vanilla trees.

Removing existing LOD textures in order for DynDOLOD TexGen.pas to run doesn't really makes sense to me atm, since TexGen pas creates them into the output folder form the full textures without "lod" in the name. Hmmm I will do some testing in that regard.

 

I suggest to use LOD textures that come with mods and overwrite vanilla and default LOD textures shipping with DynDOLOD. LOD textures coming with a mod are most likely better suited.

 

If you create those LOD textures with DynDOLOD TexGen.pas they should be same as the ones shipping with the mod, unless the mod author worked on them further somehow. In that case I suggest to visually compare the LOD textures from the mod with the ones created by DynDOLOD TexGen.pas and then decide which ones to use.

Make sure c:\portable\tes5edit\edit scripts\lodgen.exe exists and and no windows permissions get in the way of starting it. Maybe start TES5Edit as administrator, if TES5Edit is started from within MO then start MO as administrator. Make sure c:\portable\tes5edit\ is writeable.

After generating a brand new DynDoLOD stuff I noticed last night myesterious spears trust into the ground shaking like trees on the wind in random places. One even fell from the sky (like mammoths do) right in front of me as I was sprinting causing physics damage! Lol that was kinda fun.

 

Today I realised the spears come from a little hidden gem mod I discovered on the nexus just the other day Solitude Tower Flags. The flags poles where behaving like the spears trust on the ground shaking. Will generate a DynDoLOD again tonight to be sure, but it's such a fine mod you might want to add support for it.

The poles and flags will be at their correct location and have LOD when starting a new game or following the save game update procedure correctly.

 

Next DynDOLOD version will fix the weapon models moving around when used for dynamic LOD.

So I ran into a new odd glitch, if I fast travel to a place that has tent(s), for example stormcloak or Imperial outposts. The tent LOD wont vanish, but instead clip with the tent. If I travel by foot to the camp, the issue doesnt seem to happen. I don't know why this glitch happens, but it only happens when you fast travel to a place. Its more noticable on Stormcloak/bandit tents:

I've had this happen before, but the texture has always "popped in" after a few seconds.

Sadly for me, the textures and LOD seem to mix.

 

Maybe reinstalling my tent retextures will help?

I don't know. I've had it happen with random textures though. Never tested the tests.

I had this happen before with those civil war camp tents when you generate a new DynDoLOD.esp and keep on playing without uninstalling the old one first (clean saving).

 

 

@Spear-flag-poles episode:

I did generate a new esp with the flags mod disabled and everything back to normal. Will generate a new one when you release next update. Just wanted to point out the issue if it was not already know.
