Basically, this is to Archery - Spinning Arrows as Even Better Quest Objectives is to Better Quest Objectives... a updated revivial. Still has CQ&LA and Immersive Weapons compatibility, so that's something.

I'm using it no problems so far since it's only meshes it's much better than Palistov's previous iteration of Spinning Arrows which used a .esp

I am not an expert, but just thinking simple physics - for the arrow to spin it would have to have twisted feathers, so that airflow would make it spin, no? Since the ingame arrows have straight feather, the spinning arrows are not realistic methinks.

Arrows fletched with natural feathers "straight" can apparently spin due to the asymmetric nature of feathers, or so I have read. (As I understand it, the shape and perhaps asymmetric permeability of the feathers induces a difference in air pressure on the two side of the feather creating lift much the way a modern airplane wing works, but the placement of the feathers creates opposing forces which counteract any force in the horizontal or vertical planes and thus induces rotation rather than lift.) I think the effect is somewhat subtle and perhaps dependent on the skill of the fletcher. Much more noticeable is the wobbling of arrows as they bend around the bow and then wiggle back and forth in the horizontal plane as they fly true to the aim point. This is much easier to spot than the spinning on slow-motion films of arrows. The effect is much stronger on old style long bows as opposed to some of the newer designed bows. Apparently the main skill in fletching involves creating an arrow with the exact right amount of flexibility to bend as it is released "around" the bow - too little flexibility and it does not bend enough and veers off to one side, too much and it veers the other way - ruining accuracy in either case.

You should check that video more closely the further that arrow gets from the bow the more the tail feathers turn the "wobble" as you call it does make it a little hard to tell but the spin is there.

There's also another fun fact talking about archery and a bit off topic but there are only a few people that can shoot a true longbow not the "longbows" they use for today's archery competitions anyway.

I'm surprised that Kevkas didn't implement this into his Arrows and Bolts Tweaks mod. It seemed like the perfct candidate for his quest to perfect archery customization.

 

Has anyone done a suggestion for that mod yet? Seems like a good mod for a STEP pack, I'll have to do that right now.
