  1. my exchange with Vurt on the Nexus: Any volunteers?
  2. saweet. Will take a look asap (movie time now though)
  3. I think that sometimes people come across offensively and that a mod author is poised to defend their work from unjust criticism. I also find that the problem is more often than not due to a language issue. It is difficult to both present oneself --or respond to another-- eloquently in a secondary language, especially in the written word. I am pretty sure that I came across politely and that Vurt will defer to your expertise in matters of DDS compression just as we all do with respect to his artistry ;) --if he ever reads my PM that is
  4. I really AM a milk drinker... really I did miss this, but thank goodness, we can view it online. I will be bookmarking that one for sure
  5. While Starac, Jaysus and Brumbek do not release a lot of mods for Skyrim, I nevertheless would not hesitate to accept anything that these guys produce. All three are very consistent and set the bar very high for themselves and others. I am waiting for them to do more, but that is not always a good thing, as it spreads the modder thin and often results in a quality hit. I would be looking for gameplay mechanics mod wizards. These are the kinds of mods that must be carefully thought out and implemented, since so much can go wrong. (Arthmoor and OpticShooter are notable winners in this realm). Ethatron's work is very professional
  6. Thank you, my friend. I will contact Vurt and try to get him (her??) in here to discuss.
  7. Thanks, that clears it up ... should have Googled that :P
  8. Some of my favorites (many more potentially once I see where their stuff is going.): EthatronOpticShooterCaBaLArthmoorBrumbekStaracJaysus
  9. thanks ... will grab this (I normally use Lucinda Sans Typewriter for coding... 8pt)
  10. Wow, thanks for this comprehensive analysis. Could you look at Skyrim Flora Overhaul (as a test case for non-standard foliage) and That's Ice (wondering about normal maps on this one)? I will also test out the new pre once I get some time. Is the new INI file updated according to your latest findings above? What is the diff between SSE3 and non-SSE3 version of pre4?
  11. The INI treats special cases, and textures are already categorized according to file nomenclature (mostly, but there are obvious exceptions for which the INI can handle). We need some volunteers to run DDSopt on all textures of specific mods (Fri's list is a good start) and, within-game, render assets that use those textures and create screenshots of anything that seems problematic. I don't know the console commands offhand, but Fri probably does. @Fri Care to suggest a standard testing methodology for DDSopt?
  12. you might want to qualify the vanilla/DLC ESMs or people will begin asking all sorts of strange questions
  13. I just added a note to the ENB Guide under ATI Users section. Also, I added this back to the main page, so let me know (Fri) if there is some reason why it should not be there.
  14. DDSopt Pre III is pre-configured to deal with all vanilla textures appropriately. Go ahead and run it without worry.
  15. The WBG is outdated for everything but WB itself. Just follow the STEP PDF guide from the Nexus.
  16. This is evolution by mechanism of "natural pride" selection. Those that are fickle do not last, which serves the modding community best in the long run. The very best mods will stay alive ... and the STEP community is a force to be reckoned with in helping to determine the importance of any given mod (authors can drop out, but others can pick up where they left off).
  17. Â The search function is our friend (but apparently the enemy to some).
  18. This is one to archive for the wiki for sure. ... for an upcoming "bashed patching" guide. There is much more in the history of those threads too. It will be a task finding, reading and digesting them all. Then we can consolidate and invite that crew for review. Big project, but something to work on for the next few months.
  19. @ Deathwing514 We don't want any selling going on in these forums. It is just bad taste. Pointing to an Ebay listing is one thing, but promotion on these forums is quite another. We have a bit about this in the STEP Community Citizenship Guide, so please take a look for future reference. ... closing this thread.
  20. No, but not all of Vurt's textures have problems with DDSopt either. We just need to note which ones need to be skipped and add them to the INI in the correct position. I am not sure on this one either, so I just leave it at the default. Ethatron will need to explain.
  21. For anyone interested, this is a screen of my Wrye Bash initial setup for v2.2 depicting what I have optimized and how it is organized for simple conversion between opt/non-opt. I'll do the same with each and every STEP texture mod to allow comprehensive analysis that also facilitates tracking down sources of error.
  22. I think that the the 2.2 mod list is a good "ignorance" sample with respect to this error type (just over 10% STEP mods with errors) compared to the overall mod population of 20% with structural errors.
  23. Nice work! This is a big help. At the very least, it points to a first-priority mod list to deactivate/uninstall for anyone encountering any mysterious glitches or CTDs. ... I'll add this info to the dev spreadsheet if you recommend.
