Once v1.0 of the patch is created, we can load to Git to allow versioning and commits by user (see my prev post). This will enable various versions simultaneously
-
Well I think that they will all change their tunes if STEP and a large contingent of mod authors begin thinking this way.
-
Moved all patch-related posts from the 2.2.8 dev thread into this one. Let's keep the compatibility patches for STEP conversation going here ... we should be using GitHub for versioning. Just download the windows installer, create an account on GitHub, create the patch and the repository, and post back here so that the rest of the users working on this can sync the repo and contribute.

I agree. This mod is quite a beast now. That is why I am interested in creating a comprehensive installer with all of the most polished and compatible options. It requires either a community consensus or, even better, direction from Vurt.

[spoiler=Answer]It's because people require facial expressions, voice inflections and various other personal indicators of 'intent' in order to understand a message fully. This is especially true for the English language, where statements like "get out of here!" can mean just that or "no way, are you serious!?"

First step is to move the thread into mod testing using the inline mod tool (thread view) -

I am not too overly private on the internet ... I trust in the Law of Large Numbers and the Central Limit Theorem. I am a no-longer-practicing nearly-45-year-old evolutionary biologist and received my PhD in 2001. Academia is too political and unrewarding with deplorable salary limitations (America no longer values science and education, as we have sold out to corporations and bankers), so I have settled for work in the healthcare-consulting industry (patient satisfaction). My role is research and process-development consultant to put it simply. Truth be told, I'd rather be a carpenter or other laborer, but the pay is not good enough for me at present. Actually, I want to live alone in the mountains, hunting and gathering ... with a solid, high-bandwidth internet connection. I am divorced with wife and kids (one 19 and one 8 from old and current marriages, respectively ... boys both). My youngest has hemophilia, which is a big reason that I left the academic path ... group health insurance . Other than complaining about humans, I am a right-brained, obsessive taker-on-of-big-projects (e.g., STEP) with a healthy appreciation for mind-altering substances (Google the Spirit Molecule ... no, I am an avid "nonreligionist"), food, aesthetics and all hedonistic proclivities. I enjoy escaping into a good book (sci-fi and fantasy mostly) and proclaim "Dune" to be the greatest fiction of all time (for me anyway). Music has always been a passion (all types except C&W and rap/hip-hop) with a heavy bent on the British Invasion era (Black Sabbath, Budgie, Wishbone Ash, King Crimson, all of the well-known standards and much more) and classical. My ideal setting would have been San Francisco in the 60s (or pre-civillization pagan), but I am looking forward to the breakdown of the societal "norm", as survival on an equal playing field is my true element (one of my favorite movies is Fight Club ;) ). My favorite concepts involve themes found in books and movies relating to "End of Days" themes ... or just teleport me to an alternate realm like Cyrodiil, Aman/Middle-Earth or Arrakis. Anyway, I am an immaturely-mature, pessimistic-optimist-idealist with a strong drive to make everything better than it is. :D

Good call

I recently increased this to 1000 (default) from our rather previous restrictive value (25 I think). I got really tired of not finding historical results even with focused searches. Technically, it could be increased significantly, but I defer to s4n on that.

Whomever has the first big patch ready, register it with your favorite free SVN server and point the way. I would suggest Github or SourceForge, but whatever works. I have never set one up myself, but I subscribe t several.
-
OK. Rather than using a DMS, we should use SVN over Github or SourceForge for managing patch versions and contributions. Sound good?
-
Just develop for 2.2.7 keeping in mind mods under testing and what gets accepted. RWT2 is accepted, although it is not showing that in the MT forum yet.
-
This refers to scripts and MCM, not plugins ... besides, I don't take assertions by anyone as "golden", regardless of their status as TES modders. Only assertions made by consensus across many experienced modders over a period of time ... with consistent evidence ... after I see for myself ... is golden. According to the testimony thus far, plugins do not need to be kept below 128 (that includes BSAs, BTW), only Papyrus dependencies do. This is why we should use a DMS to manage said document ... or SVN (whi8ch may be more appropriate) if a single plugin is where we end up. Lastly, I think the patch should be built for 2.2.8 and not 2.2.7 (i.e., not for Water but for RWT2, for example).
-
I missed this ... and Core approaches if not exceeds this. the max plugins should be much higher. What is your source? I like TESEdit instructions for mod pages, but we will need to build that functionality as a modular component to Semantically store the info. Needs dev time. Agree that one big patch is nice, but can't deny the efficiency of the clustered patches that nearox proposed. EDIT: lastly, a Core patch makes sense, as none of the mods in STEP:Core should NOT be installed by anyone modding Skyrim. they are all absolutely critical and/or aesthetically necessary.

Morrowind 12 years later...
z929669 replied to Garfink's topic in General Morrowind Discussion & Support
I have been modding Morrowind off and on since 2006, and these are the best sources of mods and info. B2B's guide This guide is not only great, but it is well written and hilarious. Empirical Morrowind Morrowind Expanded Morrowind Mythic Mods Morrowind Modding History (a source for Connary's textures ... arguably the best for this game if you have a good gfx card) ... and use Wrye Mash to manage your installs and mlox to manage your plugin load order (analog to BOSS). There are more save game functions than Wrye Bash, and it is a bit different (and harder to install), but worth it. -
kryptopyr is a 'she' BTW ;) ... and she is sulually on the ball when it comes to updates and patches.
-
We'll do it for 2.2.8, so next release ... one patch for Skyrim (Skyrim = Skyrim + DG + HF + DB).
-
Agre on DLC. I propose to introduce this as a requirement for STEP and then we can do away with all of that nonsense.
-
This can happen if the timestamp is identical to another plugin under Mods tab.
-
WB 304 is the latest stable. No issues.
-
Regarding Wrye Bash and altering files it has installed ... not a good idea. WB will flag the installers that have files that do not CRC match with those in Bash Installers. Annealing wil effectively revert the changes, so it is always best to extract, optimize and repackage the installer. Save both original and optimized and append "-opt" to the altered package name. Place adjacent to one another by Order in the Installers tab of WB (highlight the two packages and move them together). Then install both packages. the higher in the Order will win and you can test in game. Then uninstall the higher one and test again (this will be the lower one in testing).
