  1. I've gone through the guide 4-5 times now while working on it with a clean install of Oblivion each time and Obliviion.esm is always unchecked the first time in the launcher and Wrye Bash, it either checks itself or will load even if unchecked. Many programs still aren't 64-bit yet sadly, you can have a 64-bit OS and still run 32-bit programs. Though you seem to have a lot of programs running in the background, I would turn off UAC, any firewalls, anti-viruses, and programs like CCleaner that could be messing with the Oblivion files or any gaming applications. Literally just turn off everything you can and see if it runs, probably restart though before you turn everything off. Also before you said you tried messing with the compatibility modes, try making sure you haven't left the .exe accidentally in Windows 95 mode or anything and make sure it's off.
  2. You said you tried a disc install and Steam install? Which one are you using now?
  3. Very weird, hishutup usually gets on at this time so maybe he can help. Try the Verify Cache option for Oblivion on Steam. If that doesn't work, maybe the intro movie is corrupted and that's why it crashes when starting a new game, try deleting rest of the line after the = sign in this line in Oblivion.ini: [General] SOblivionIntro=
  4. Hmm...maybe try these and try launching it again. Disabling Steam Overlay and Synchronization If you have installed your copy of Oblivion through Steam, you must disable the Steam Overlay as it does not work with some mods. Disabling Steam Cloud Synchronization is also recommended. Open Steam, right click Oblivion in your Library → Properties → General → Disable "Steam Overlay while in-game".While still in Steam, right click Oblivion in your Library → Properties → Updates → Uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion"Oblivion Launcher Options After Oblivion is done downloading, click [PLAY] in your Steam library. This will bring up the launcher for Oblivion. If a dialogue box pops up, select [OK] then click [Options] and change the settings as follows:Video Quality Presets: Set to Ultra High.Mode: It is recommended to keep at Fullscreen.VSync: Keep this checked because screen tearing is very noticeable in Oblivion.Screen Effects: Keep set to HDR - this is required for TES4LodGen used later in this guide. Note that anti-aliasing must remain at none for HDR to be enabled.Screen Resolution: Select your screen resolution.Click [OK] when you are sure your settings match those above. Does it only crash when you start a new game or immediately when the game starts?
  5. I think a mod should probably move this to Mythic Dawn support. lol. Well alright first when you reinstall the game you should uninstall Oblivion from Steam, then delete the Oblivion folders located in: "<Oblivion install>" (aka wherever you installed Oblivion because if you mod the game there will be some files leftover that Steam doesn't delete)"<YourUserName>\(My)Documents\My Games\Oblivion"<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Oblivion"Then you should install Oblivion somewhere that isn't in a Program Files folder. Did you make sure you deleted everything from the folders above when you reinstalled? I'm guessing the problem is that you uninstalled Oblivion from Steam, but didn't delete the Oblivion folder that is leftover even after you uninstall through Steam when you add mods the game.
  6. Do you have 4GBs of ram or 8GBs of ram that's two sticks? If you only have 4GB of ram I would expect some stuttering. Probably, also there are some low quality options when installing STEP you can use if you need to.
  7. Mythic Dawn: 2015 Update It's finally done. After working on the guide nearly everyday for two weeks, it is now fully updated. Anyone who wishes to use the guide can now do so because no more changes will be made by me, as no more are needed. Hishutup might add a few things to the guide in the future, but that's unlikely to happen for a while. Something else to note, since the day I made the first change to the guide a few weeks ago, it has gotten 10k views in that short time which is pretty amazing, though I'm sure most of them were mine. :P Also in order to celebrate finishing it, I made a new banner for the guide. You might need to refresh the page once you click on the guide to see it, but tell me what you think of it. The whole reason I started updating the guide was because I wanted to play the game, but the guide was too dated for it to be playable. Now I can finally play the game. :)
  8. I couldn't find where in the readme it says to skip that part, but I'm assuming that you still rename it, and the BOSS notes and mod page still say to do so. Also if you're following the guide with the recent changes such as the complicated mods section, a part of it needs to be changed that I haven't added yet so your game might not work.
  9. 3. Yes it does make things look very nice, I was just wondering how you knew that 16 was the max value. But I'm really close to finally having a stable game and getting rid of all the stutter because disabling the fps manager is what has finally made everything playable in terms of constant fps. I'm going to uninstall everything and start the guide over probably for the last time tonight and then I will probably be starting a full playthrough if all is well. :) Soon there won't be too much for me to do anymore.
  10. @hishutup So I've been messing around with OR and other things and I'm amazed that I keep finding things that make my game run smoother. [OblivionReloaded.ini] FrameRate = 1 What really is the point of this? I don't really understand why there would be a need for this, and Vsync also limits the fps to 60 so I don't understand why other fps managers are needed. Turning this off made my game waaay smoother, and even keeping it on and tweaking the section for the settings for this still doesn't make the game as smooth as just turning it off. --------------- Other questions: 1. Is this needed for Oblivion.ini to delete the Archive.txt part and what does it do? I think I saw that in the Skyrim.ini that SInvadlidationFile is unused by the game, so is it the same for Oblivion? [Archive] SInvalidationFile= 2. Why did you leave this off in the OR INI? [shaders] EnableHDR = 0 3. Located in the OR INI, default is 4. How do you know this can/should go up to 16? [Main] AnisotropicFilter = 16
  11. Oh yeah you're right I remember now, I knew it was something like that but couldn't remember. Honestly though, Wrye Bash can make life rather difficult as well haha.
  12. It probably has something to do with Better Cities, and you have an outdated version of Better Cities. When you enter the Imperial City Marketplace, is there a large note on the ground before the stairs and a lot of misaligned objects? Also some things that may be helpful: If you are using the file "Better Imperial City.esp", are you also using "Better Imperial City FPS Patch.esp"? If you are, please disable it, and if you aren't, please install and enable it, then visit the Waterfront again in-game. Did adding or removing this file make a difference? If you are using the file "Better Cities IC Waterfront.esp", are you also using "Better Cities IC Waterfront FPS Patch.esp"? If you are, please disable it, and if you aren't, please install and enable it, then visit the Waterfront again in-game. Did adding or removing this file make a difference?
  13. Ah alright, I knew that they both affected terrain shaders but didn't know in what way. Do you know of a mod like this for Oblivion? Basically I don't understand how people get these really nice looking characters in Bethesda games. They don't make them in the character editor do they? Cuz spending an hour making one and it only turning out okayish looking isn't all that fun. Also what was the reason we don't use Mod Organizer for Oblivion?
  14. No idea how to do that, that's all a bit over my head and likely something you'll just have to do. I just know that literally everyone ever says to use BOSS instead of LOOT for Oblivion but if you can get LOOT to work I guess all should be fine. Also is Detailed Terrain needed anymore now that there's OR?
  15. I feel like the number of rules to get BC working with LOOT will be pretty close to the number of rules for BOSS to work with everything else, but alright. Sigh, well looks like the game will be pretty unplayable until you do the LOOT rules whenever that will be.
  16. Hmm...Alive Waters was my first thought of being the cause. I don't have the problem with fish and I also didn't install Alive Waters this time around, so I'm sure it is Alive Waters even though I had that mod before and didn't have a fish problem. I'd make sure you have the .esps unchecked or personally just uninstall the mod because basically rendering a bunch of grass and weeds on a lake floor that you will never see and scripted fish that move but you will never see either seems like a waste.
  17. I just changed that section last night so apologies for not adding that in. Make sure "00 Core" is checked under Sub-Packages.
  18. Hey thanks. Actually I was literally just about to post this. Better Cities is an absolute mess with LOOT and I've been trying to get a decent load order going for a couple hours with no luck. I think I'll change it back to BOSS and add the masterlist rules back in that were taken out. Unless @hishutup can make BC work with LOOT, which I don't really think is possible.
  19. Placebo effect. https://www.pcworld.com/article/2949894/windows/windows-10-vs-windows-8-performance-benchmarks-show-a-close-battle-for-fastest.html https://www.cnet.com/news/windows-10-performance-numbers-story/ Edit: Oh my god, yes, the icons for the Recycle Bin, This PC shortcut, and Hard Drive shortcuts are ugly looking..
  20. I've seen Downpour before, so I'll check it out. Whatever mod is currently changing the rain, which I think is All Natural.. is really bad, lol. https://i.imgur.com/TMQbv41.jpg Edit: Also should this https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45567/? be replaced with this https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46195/? It's by the same author. Edit 2: Is Detailed Terrain needed anymore now that there's OR?
  21. I'll throw the HUD xml thing in the to-do list. And okay I just saw that ODLMax was recommended by Better Cities to improve fps but if you don't think it is needed I'll take it off. I'm currently trying out all the texture mods I wrote down to see if any look better but so far none of them really do. Edit: Oh, also do you know if there is a mod in the guide that changes the rain? Because currently it looks really bad....
  22. So yeah, well after taking a few days off I'm back to working on the guide. I uninstalled Oblivion and all my mods and started the guide over from the beginning again. I updated and changed a lot of things while I worked through the whole guide and my game is a lot better than the last time. There are still some problems, and some new ones, but it's a lot better. Will say one thing though, setting the LOD meshes option in Tes4ll to ultimate is what caused an insane amount of fps loss, stuttering, and long loading times. After setting it to normal my game is about 4x smoother. Not even joking how much it helped out and I'm just glad I tried changing it otherwise I would have been stuck with terrible stuttering and probably never figured out the cause. The guide is pretty close to actually creating a stable and smooth game. Now a lot of questions for you @hishutup. sorry since some of them are kinda difficult questions or you might not have the answer. 1. Is NifSe needed anymore since Deadly Reflex and Unnecessary Violence are out of the guide? 2. Do you know how to get rid of all the clutter with the UI/HUD on my screen from Oblivion XP and HUD Alive? Neither really say how to customize the UI.. 3. How will Optimised Distant Land MAX fit in with the other LOD type things such as LOD Noise Replacer, Modified Qarls Normals, and Tes4ll? I don't really know much about what they all do, but can ODLMAX be used with them? 4. The IC marketplace is bugging out and Better Cities says I need to lower Better Imperial City.esp or Better Cities IC Market.esp in my load order, but I don't have either...know why that is?
  23. No it is definitely the worst. Vista was just bad, Win 7 was great and Microsoft redeemed themselves, Win 8 had that stupid tablet interface but besides that there wasn't anything to complain about really, Win 8.1 had some improvements over 8 but was the exact same, and now with Win 10 they just went too far. idk if there has been an OS release in history where: the company has released it with this much bloatware (about 2 dozen apps)it being able to send every keystroke and internet search straight to Microsoftit using your internet to upload updates to other computersit sharing your wifi with people you've never given it tostill sends info to Microsoft even after you've disabled all possible settingscan disable games, programs, or hardware on your pchave permission to see what files you have on your pcAnyone saying that it is one of the better OS's just baffles me...... And well actually 8GB of ram just recently became the average amount of ram in a computer, it will take more than a few years for 16GB to become the average. but why would anyone be okay with something they don't use and have disabled taking up ANY amount of ram or system resources?? no matter how large or small.. Also with the amount of time it takes in Windows 10 to disable all the privacy settings, go through powershell to delete the dozen apps you can't delete and anything else you could easily have Linux setup how you want in the same amount of time.
  24. Windows 10 is honestly the worst thing Microsoft has released since Windows Vista. I saw some concern about the privacy settings a few days before it was released, but I didn't think that much of it. But now after two weeks from upgrading, it just gets worse and worse with people finding new ways that Windows is spying on you every few days to Microsoft casually announcing they have the ability to deactivate games, programs, or hardware on your pc. Not to mention being unable to disable the insane amount of bloatware that came with Windows 10, I mean come on...check your task manager right now, Cortana is there taking up 100mb of RAM even if you have it disabled and haven't used it once. I would switch to Linux instantly if I wouldn't be leaving so much behind. :/ Wouldn't be able to mod or play half of my games or use Adobe programs and other things that just make switching to Linux impossible for me.
