  1. Ah, thank you. I saw that OR had that but I hadn't actually looked at it or any of the values. I know that most of the tweaks hishutup lists are pretty old and from Tweaks Guide which is very dated. I'll just have to do a lot of testing with the tweaks as that was what I was planning on doing next. Did you use the tweaks from the guide or the ones listed in OR Sh0dan? Some things to note from OR .ini: uGridDistantCount=50 - This is twice that of the ultra default and my current setting iShadowMapResolution=512 - Tweaks Guide I believe said this could be put to 1024 and that guide is very old, so putting this higher probably won't hurt much iPreloadSizeLimit=104857600 - A a bit more than half of hishutup's setting
  2. Holy ****, this is completely unexpected...but after deleting iPreloadSizeLimit from my INI my fps has nearly doubled in all exterior places! I was using the # that you had which was a 7 in the formula, as I was using most of the mods from the guide but not all. Here is roughly my fps according to HUD Alive: Interiors: (1 room/small houses) Before -> 60fps After -> 60fps Interiors: (Large) Before -> 50fps After -> 50fps Cities: (w/ Better Cities) Before: 10-15fps After: 25-40fps !!! Wilderness/Roads: (Away from cities) Before -> 35-45fps After -> 45-60fps Combat: (Exterior w/ wolves) Before -> 15-40fps (stuttered a lot) After -> 25-45fps (still stutters some)
  3. Do you have MenuQue installed? Also do you have the Darnified UI or DarkUId DarN subpackage checked for whichever one you are using in Oblivion XP Update? Something you could try is backing up OB XP Update and reinstalling it then without deleting any of the .xml's for it turn these to 0 in the .ini messageIcon messageInit messageSoundX progressDisplayBar If that doesn't work then also try this in the hud_main_menu.xml
  4. Will post the next batch of questions when I write them all up.
  5. HDR is required for TES4LODGen, so I'm assuming you can't play the game without it. And yes, HDR needs to be enabled in the Oblivion.ini/Launcher and I also assume that OR's HDR setting is just its own 'enhanced' version of HDR and that the Oblivion.ini HDR is still required. As for the XP popup I couldn't for the life of me find anything about turning it off on the mod page but I think that it may actually be HUD Alive that is showing the pop ups along with the dozen other intrusive things it adds.
  6. I was bored so I googled it and found this. Original mod is dead but they mention this and a comparison of it and the vanilla cage is in the thread.
  7. @hishutup You haven't commented about the new look for the guide, hope you like it? Anyways, still working through the guide and have some questions for things, so I'll try to do the easy ones first. 1. Does Landscape LOD Generator need to be run every time the load order is changed and TES4LODGen is ran? I have been running it every time, and I imagine doing so can't hurt anything, but is it necessary? 2. The mod page for Landscape LOD Generator says the following: In Oblivion, the LOD meshes can be replaced quad-by-quad only. If one has a lot of landscape changes (like UL), the following problems may appear: The quad meshes do not fit at their borders, because they were created independently"Wall-like" steps between the normal grid and the LOD meshesFloating objects (trees, buildings) You think this might not be worth running if UL is installed? 3. When I asked you about the iPreloadSizeLimit memory tweak you said: "I dont know how valid this still is with OR being a thing." You think this tweak might not be necessary anymore or cause more harm than good now?
  8. Oblivion Reloaded messes up with multi-card configurations (or at least the old version of the mod did, I would assume the same for the current version). But Oblivion in general doesn't handle multi-cards well.
  9. Mythic Dawn: Oblivion Modding Guide Edit: 8/25/15 The Mythic Dawn guide has now finally been updated. This thread will serve as a discussion board about potential changes to the modding aspect of the guide and any feedback about the changes. This post will serve as a changelog to keep track of the changes that have been made. You can compare the old version to the reworked version, and see that it looks a lot less messy and more like STEP. Feedback is appreciated. 10. Ah, well I can only assume that the FCOM Optional Add-Ons were meant to be installed last along with the others in the Patch section at the end of the guide. Hishutup possibly knows the answer. But yes the MSAA thing in OR is quite curious, and I'll look into it and a few other things having to do with OR later. As for MTCExpandedVillages, I can't help too much with that as I did not install that mod, but it would make sense since it alters Weye. Did you do the manual cleaning required for the mod? I wouldn't be too suprised if UL and MTC Villages were conflicting. I wouldn't know how to find out if they are or how to fix it though. :/
  11. Yes it seems that the patch made by another user linked in the mod description was for when the mod was more or less compatible with UL, but since the new version of Grass Overhaul is completely incompatible with UL (for now), his patch won't fix anything. Where exactly in the guide is this mentioned? Admittedly I did not install FCOM as I feared it would cause more problems than it was worth, but I cannot find any mention of not enabling any FCOM Addons. This is interesting. I don't think it is possible to enable both in the launcher or in-game menu, so I looked in the OBSE .ini for OR and don't see an option for MSAA there. Not sure how it would be enabled. It seems that me and Hishutup are planning to update the guide as of now. :)
  12. Update to the edit from my last post: Yep well disabling the Grass Overhaul ESP has fixed every problem I had with terrain tearing/seams and a couple floating roads. So to the OP, don't bother with the load order/patch I mentioned, just disable the ESP from Grass Overhaul and it should be fixed.
  13. While looking back at the guide and the Grass Overhaul mod page, the guide was written for v4.0 and the mod is now v5.1 and includes this patch for Unique Landscapes. I don't remember seeing the patch in the guide so it was probably added in the new version of the mod and will likely fix it. Also the mod author says, "If you are using Roads of Cyrodiil, move that ahead of grass overhaul in the load order to avoid any conflicts." Edit: Ahhh...actually the .esp in the current version of Grass Overhaul isn't compatible with Unique Landscapes, and the author has taken down the old version that was.
  14. You posted in the wrong section but that is okay. A lot of people seem to be using the Mythic Dawn Oblivion guide recently which is cool. I used the guide as well and I have the same problem with seams, a couple floating roads, etc. I think this is because Better Cities, Unique Landscapes, and the dozen or so patches needed for both don't want to play well with each other, and considering both have had updates but the guide has not been updated, the problems are to be expected. When you create the Bashed Patch and the window for it pops up, you want to uncheck everything under the 'NoMerge' section. Maybe hishutup can help you, but I think the problems are due to the guide being dated and a lot of the landscape mods having updates and changing things. (So bug him about updating the guide)
  15. The "Oblivion Intact" project. Double click on "Oblivion Intact" in Wrye Bash under the installers tab and then delete anything that is a .esp/bsa.
  16. Sadly while this is the best modding guide you'll ever find for Oblivion, it is currently not updated and not reliable to follow at this time. I started and finished the guide a couple days ago and if you follow this guide exactly at best you will have: "a game that looks beautiful and amazing....but with some missing meshes/textures, some people's eyes bulge from their head or glow like lights, a couple roads floating in the sky, 1st person camera is kinda messed up, camera switches to 3rd person whenever I talk to someone, low fps in some areas, etc." A lot of the mods in the guide have been updated and the install instructions and patches have not been. If you are smart and experienced enough with modding, you might be able to use the guide as a base in a sense, but following the guide as is at this moment will produce a working, but rather unplayable game. If you wish for the author to update it, try bugging @hishutup until he starts work on it again. :)
  17. Wow, thanks a lot for figuring this out, that fixed it. It was under my impression that the line was supposed to automatically add itself after enabling installers in WB. I'm not sure if that is the case and it did not automatically add or if I was supposed to add it myself as the guide didn't explicitly state to add it. Regardless, cheers.
  18. As the authors have said, they did not intend to write the guide for those without modding experience. They wrote the guide for those that have knowledge of modding and the tools used. While I would have preferred the step-by-step approach over this design choice, I wholeheartedly understand why this choice was made as writing the guide at such a basic level where all steps are listed would have taken a much longer time. As for a video guide? That is definitely something that I could do. I have video recording/editing software and am experienced with them. However, it would take a long time to make a whole video series covering the entire guide. But it is definitely a possibility for me to do.
  19. Nice work on responding to all the feedback. You can use this link, as it cuts off the video when he is done explaining the relevant part. For someone that is new to modding following STEP without a video guide/step-by-step instructions and does not have any of the mods downloaded, I think my original guess of 30 hours is accurate. But hell, I'd make a video guide or step-by-step instructions if you payed me well. xD But that would require much more than 2 to 3 hours to do. Making a video guide would involve a lot of recording/video editing and writing down all the step-by-step instructions would take very long as well.
  20. My .ini that hasn't been touched by WB and what I replace the "messed up" .ini with (has read only checked) The .ini that WB changed after using WB and always causes a CTD when launching Oblivion. They both show line breaks in NP++ but the 2nd doesn't show line breaks when opened with Notepad.
  21. As you can see in the top left, I have the standalone version and it gives me a Python error in the header of the error. I did not download the installer version of WB so there is no chance I accidentally installed the Python version. I did not install Oblivion or anything related in UAC folders, and I turned off UAC, Windows Defender, and closed MSI Afterburner and still get the error above when the .ini is read only and Oblivion still crashes when I uncheck read only and let WB make changes to the INI.
  22. What about the people that want to use STEP but lack the experience of modding to do so? You cannot tell someone that is new to modding to simply "read the manual" of MO and then expect them to flawlessly install 200+ mods. Is there any way STEP can accommodate for these people that wish to use STEP but lack experience? I'm not saying STEP NEEDS to accommodate for these people. I have not suggested anything so far and have only said my thoughts. I'm just the new kid around here and I'm just curious on others' thoughts about this. Do you just tell people that don't know what they are doing to read the manual and come back when they decide to learn the basics? Or do you simply send them away and say, "STEP isn't for you and you can't use it. You need to know what you are doing to use STEP."
  23. The version I am using is 305(Standalone) CBash v0.6.0 that was linked in the guide, here, and I have downloaded the Standalone Executable file as listed in the guide. But I think you are right GrantSP because I think I do remember seeing the word Python pop up in either an error given by WB or somewhere else..but my WB does say standalone though.. Is the is the standalone on the nexus supposed to be the Python version or is it accidentally maybe? That or you are wrong and I am not using the Python version..I am unsure. As for the .ini, I highly doubt Afterburner is affecting the .ini as it just manages my GPU settings and that is all, and I have no AV besides the standard Windows Defender. Maybe some new AV part of Win 10 is causing it or something else but I will try turning off MSI Afterburner and Windows security things to see if it makes a difference.
  24. I agree with most of what you have said. I know most of you help with support and I am sure that you come across many people whose problems are due to incompetence rather than the fault of the guide authors. The constant edits and changes to STEP is precisely the reason why making a video guide would have difficulties. However while I am not saying new users are entitled to a video guide, a simple work around for making a video guide feasible is to make a video guide for every 'major' STEP release, and just redo it or any parts for the next 'big' STEP release. For example if someone made a video guide for STEP 2.3.0, and only that version. Just a thought. As for the idea of having every detail outlined: Would this make the guide much longer? Yes. Would there be a lot of redundancy in instructions? Yes. However, would this eliminate almost all possibility for error, doubt, and confusion for all users? Definitely yes. Just my thoughts and feedback.
  25. First I'd like to say I am by no means bashing on the guide. And while I don't think it is as user friendly as I wish, that doesn't mean it is user unfriendly. Basically I wish it held your hand every step of the way. A good example is the Witcher 2 guide I wrote. Someone that has never modded anything before could use it because I have given instructions for every mouse click, button press, etc. For example... For these instructions I could have just said, "Put the mod into the mod folder and disable the UI mod." But instead I listed everything that needs to be done. I'm not saying STEP needs to be like this or a 4 hour video series needs to be made, but if every single step is documented and laid out, then there is no possibility of error or doubt for a new user.
