I thought that the multi-cores actually use a whole lot less energy than their predecessors. It certainly seems to be the case with the mobile equivalents. My MSI GT72 Dominator laptop is currently showing 27 W used. Granted, I've only got a browser open currently - however, my last dual core laptop as drawing something like 80 W just sitting there. My dual core laptop would get so hot playing certain games that it could burn skin. My current "Beast" has never gotten GPU or CPU temperatures past 66C. Wish I could say it made me feel "greener," but I'm pretty sure if I tack on the energy used to manufacture such technology, then ship it here and there before being purchased and shipped again to me, and used that added to my "low power consumption" I'd find that it's more of an energy pig than I'd like to admit.

DROPPED Mage Outfit Texture Overhaul by (Rafuel and Alexandriel)
n0mad23 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Yeah, I went back and looked at the videos and screens again. Really, really nice. Would you recommend biting the bullet and filling a plugin slot then? I must say I'm actually even more tempted after going back and revisiting than I was the first time.- 47 replies

DROPPED Mage Outfit Texture Overhaul by (Rafuel and Alexandriel)

Any idea why and ESP would be required for this? I really like the subtle changes, but am not convinced it's worth adding another plugin to the swelling load.- 47 replies

That it's made by skyrimaguas is a confidence booster from the get go. I really like both Superior Lore Friendly Hair and Grass on Steroids, so I'll be installing this one for a test immediately. I'm with Harpalus in terms of realism and holding you arm higher like that, but I'll probably give it a test as well just to have a look as it seems like it won't cause issues if uninstalled afterward. I'll add an edit here and let you know my impression. Addendum: So I really like this one. Proper Torch Wield LOOKS right, both in terms of the position it's being held (no more curled burned whiskers, aye?) and how it looks in 1st person using Enhanced Camera. Like several other "sublime" fixes, this one is an instant required one for me. In fact, I like it "as is" so much I'm not even going to bother trying Hold Your Torch Higher as it's not necessary imo. Nice find!

Glad this got bumped, as I didn't know about the thread. There's some really good stuff posted here!

ACCEPTED The Ruffled Feather (By SparrowPrince)
n0mad23 replied to Xaviien's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Actually SparrowPrince, I was taking a jab at myself for not rising to the occasion and diving into Creation Kt yet. I'd like to be more helpful here than I feel I am. I've gotten pretty confident using MO to both install and test mods now, and have looked at several additions that have been so problem filled as to be unusable for myself and most others. What's gotten up my nose is I can now spot Nav Mesh problems in people's mods, but don't have a clue as to how someone could actually fix them. I'm to the point as well where I can see things that could be done with the right experience/knowledge that would enhance my game experience as well as others. Both Solitude Docks and Radioactive's Solitude Docks and Winhelm Docks are really cool (imo) conceptually, but in terms of implementation - well, need I say more? SDocks really blew my mind when I dove into the waters only to find pilings that "magically" seated less than 10 feet underwater and never touched the bottom. To me, immersion requires a bit more than standard smoke and mirrors. ETaC is one that really has blown my mind. While I really love the expanded villages and towns, what really impresses me most about this mod are the fortifications and buttresses that are added. This simple little addition actually makes the "Civil War" feel like it's actually happening in the background which is something I'm sure we've all felt was lacking in the vanilla version. I'd like to contribute to modding Skyrim in a similar way. So my ramble is done. Giant `shrooms sound good. As they stand, they are quite crappy.- 307 replies

ACCEPTED The Ruffled Feather (By SparrowPrince)
n0mad23 replied to Xaviien's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Got busy tonight. Just now checking in. "WHlanddead1.nif" and "2" are in my ELFX\Meshes\Architecture\Windhelm\ directory along with a total of 21 .nifs, if that helps. I'm using ELFX 2.0, the enhancer, and exteriors. Looking at the download (packrat archiver - I file away everything whether I use it or not) I'm finding those files in "02-Exteriors" section of the Main download. Sorry I can't be more helpful - I'm a mod installer and tester in this realm - period. I've been turning Skyrim into the game I want to play (got to say, the acoustics in the Ratway are worth spending time in if you ever use the Become a Bard mod). And less than a year into that even. I keep contemplating actually firing up Creation Kit just so I can get a better understanding of how the various levels of modding actually work with the game engine, but must admit being daunted by the learning curve.- 307 replies

ELFX DOES use this - I'm still using it (yes, I'm a heretic) and just did a check. "WHlanddead1.nif" and "WHlanddead2.nif" are both in the ELFX meshes directory. EdiT - Sparrowprince, you beat me to it! Cross-posting in action, aye?- 307 replies

I installed this probably a day after this thread went up. Only a couple days ago I got to this point in the game (I've been doing mostly radiant quests) and found that it unfolded seamlessly enough that I didn't even remember that I was using Paarthurnax Bypass until I was discussing the game with my daughter last night, and she mentioned A Blade in the Dark which her good friend is currently attempting. When she asked me what I was going to do when forced to decide about Paaarthurnax by the Blades is when I remembered the sequence in the video above this post - the exact sequence I'd done. Sometimes real success is measured by how unnoticeable things are. BTW - thanks Penrutet for posting that.

Realistic Water Two - stream Fix [nanoman2000]
n0mad23 replied to FuzzRocket9's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I like his Stream Fix wherever the textures came from. It's too bad that, whatever his violations, it won't be available for others to enjoy from Nexus now. Mods disappearing from Nexus isn't an uncommon thing I've gathered. -

MO loads from top to bottom, so whatever you have below will "win" in terms of the final load. I did something somewhat similar in looking at Aurora replacement mods. I found one that only replaced meshes, and another that just did textures. I put the pieces together and zipped them up and then unzipped them into my MO mod list. Best little experiment ever! My auroras are awesome now!

[ Q & A ] Using FNIS with Mod Organizer
n0mad23 replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
@tnu - Obvious question - are you sure you have MO's "configure executables" FNIS binary is set to the directory where GenerateFNISforUsers.exe is located? That first line "directory name is invalid" suggests something simple I'm guessing. -
[ Q & A ] Using FNIS with Mod Organizer
n0mad23 replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
Well I'm baffled. According to the Nexus FNIS description, after setting the archive's data directory correctly, "A dialog should appear if you already have a previous version asking to 'Merge, Replace, Rename or Cancel'. Select 'Rename' and rename it to something specific." This doesn't happen for me. Instead it installs as "FNIS Behavior V5.5 -ALWAYS necessary" so I have both V5.5 and V5.2 available. I tried unchecking V5.2 and reconfiguring my executables so FNIS would be using the V5.5 executable instead of the V5.2, and then running FNIS to generate the active files. This is what FNIS gives me: "All Anim Lists scanned. Generating Behavior Files ... ERROR(2008): Line 10: Bad Modifier (behavior element): templates\mt_behavior_TEMPLATE.txt" FNIS then does nothing further. No updates generated. I'm guessing now that the problem is in "merging" V5.2 with 5.5. Is this right? How do I do this? Do I simply drag the files from V5.5 and drop them into the folders of V5.2? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. EDIT - Fore answered me on Nexus and all is well with me and V5.5. I have no idea what I did to make it work other than uninstalling and reinstalling 3x's. But all is well that ends well. -
Isn't it funny (in this sense "peculiar or weird") how critics assume their role is more important than the author's when they critique a work? I blame the post-structuralist anti-humanist French school for this - but that's a philosophical thread best delved into on another site. I'd love to see a "critic" actually make an attempt to do better than the work they put down. Not everyone everywhere needs to make someone feel bad in order to make themselves's feel good. This thread in particular illustrates why STEP forums are the first place I go for things Skyrim. Not only is the knowledge base here better than most other places combined, the "community" is composed of helpful and decent people who'd rather defuse an unpleasant situation than fan the flames of conflict. At least this has been my impression. Salute.

[ Q & A ] Using FNIS with Mod Organizer
n0mad23 replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
Hi Gang, I'm trying to update my FNIS 5.2 to 5.5 (and fix) with MO but am having a tough time finding any guides about how to do this. I thought it probably was a straight forward "replace" and then run FNIS to update, however FNIS hangs after giving me an error about not finding something in line 10 of a text file. I didn't write it down but will try to redo the update later today and be sure to get the details if I don't find the solution in the meantime. It should be a pretty straight forward update, yes? EDIT: Somehow I'd overlooked the section on FNIS Nexus where updating with MO is posted. I (face palm) hadn't considered the executable I was calling was the old one so the solution is clear. I'll have it fixed momentarily! Cheers. -

n0mad23 replied to Xaviien's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Strangely enough, I downloaded V.3.7.4 last night! Why didn't I wait? Lol. Actually, The Ruffled Feather has been on my list for a while now as I've been using several of these mods since my first playthrough, and compiling them into a single fomod installation is a good idea. I've been meaning to both update any mods that I'm using previous versions of, as well as sampling those that I haven't yet. You do mighty fine work SparrowPrince. Thank you! DROPPED Skyrim - Enhanced Camera (by LogicDragon)
n0mad23 replied to dstansberry's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I've noticed a strange issue where "footsteps" now only works when I'm in 1st person perspective with this mod. At least I suspect this mod is playing some role in this because of the footsteps appearing in 1st person - honestly I only noticed while playing last night. After I noticed it, I couldn't un-notice it and it happens wherever I test it in snow. All NPCs' footsteps also are gone until I switch to 1st person, and then they begin to appear (they're not there until the npc walks while I'm watching in 1st person). Very oddly, this only seems to effect bipeds as horses, elk, wolves, etc. all leave footprints in the snow regardless of my being in 1st or 3rd person perspective. Could it be a load order thing? -
I've been holding off on installing Real Shelters since I've been following this development. The idea of a particle rain system along the same lines makes me salivate. I've been using Vivid Snow since v 1.0 and there's no turning back for me now. Updating has been seamless. Is this the genuflect area? "I'm not worthy...."

Star Citizen in a must watch 13 minute nutshell
n0mad23 replied to redirishlord's topic in General Game Discussion
Elite Dangerous looks interesting, but I think I like the "vision" of Star Citizen better. It's more Olde Skool Space Opera taken from the imaginary head space played with friends around the kitchen table and rendered with microprocessor tech that was still pure sci-fi a decade ago, at least in my understanding of it. After spending some more time looking at the Elite site, I might change my mind. The online subscription aspect isn't appealing, but I haven't spent much time online gaming either. I'm going to have to admit that since my daughter gave me Skyrim at the end of 2014, I really haven't had all that much "pull" to any other video games. I've only played around a bit with 2 others in the last 8 months. When I've had affairs with video games over the years, they've mostly tended to be simulators. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure this has a lot to do with the open environments and freedom to get creative around things. Skyrim, with the ability to nudge them game into what you want it to be, and this "open world" has been a huge surprise. I think what Bethseda got right in its vanilla base is the importance of compelling story telling. I'm hoping that those deeply involved with the development of Star Citizen bring that element in to the foundation of that universe should it ever hit Beta. -
Star Citizen in a must watch 13 minute nutshell
n0mad23 replied to redirishlord's topic in General Game Discussion
Personally, I think the project suffers more from "wishful thinking" than from out-and-out financial fraud. Unfortunately, the outcome could be the same either way. An open universe? Grand Theft Auto 5 had what? ten times the budget? Couple that with the mind-blowing amount of "work" that went into it, some 1000+ man years that resulted in a open world map that's not even comparable scale-wise to what Star Citizen promises. Back when I was making speculative "off-the-shelf" projects for Orbiter Space Flight Simulator, there were several modders attempting to bring 3d mesh work onto planets to allow more interesting points of origin and destination. A sphere measuring some 12k miles in circumference as a 3d construct raises all kinds of issues processor wise, let alone requiring serious modeling time to even attempt. My biggest "vessel" was a 120km tether-sling (rotovator) made up of simulated cables and reels like on fishing poles, with each section measuring 20 km. I bet I spent over 30 hours just tweaking those meshes so the offset between beginning and end points had less than 0.01% - the problem was no CAD or other 3d software is made to deal with objects of such scale. In other words, pioneering in this realm always is fraught with problems that no one has the experience to predict. I really want Star Citizen to succeed, and I'll admit it's mostly for selfish reasons. A Space Sim in a persistent universe? Oh man, my fantasies from Space Opera RPG days leap to surface memory when I look at the Chris Roberts site. The pragmatic end user I've become (I gave up C when it went turbo ++) doesn't see how it's possible without hiring 70% of the game program developers in the world today and going the route of Rockstar - full on corporate model milestone driven deadlines and all. Could be I'm still cranky about being left behind - crap DSL line and too few coins in the bank to even contemplate "investing" in a sim that may or may not ever move past the alpha stage of development. -
I found this one some time ago. Somehow it tickles all my perverse buttons. Sheogorath is as twisted as you'd imagined. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-wWVFFQmZE
