wip-fallout-4-using-modorganizer-2
GrantSP replied to Gernash's topic in Unofficial Fallout 4 Guides
@Gernash could again enlighten me as to why you recommend this creation of another base directory and the need for the symbolic link? -
In your screenshot, but further down, there will be a listing of folders found in the game's data folder. Expand the textures folder and check if each RUSTIC mod is winning.
-
Could explain more what you mean by this? Are you expanding each heading in the tree to see the files provided? e.g. RUSTIC DRAGON CORPSE provides 2 files which are in: \textures\actors\dragon. Expanding that in the 'Data' tab will show you: dragonskeleton.dds & dragonskeleton_n.dds The second column will show you the name of the providing mod. If more than one mod provides identical files that name will be in red and the tooltip will show the losing mods.
-
Welcome to STEP @Screamapillar From your screenshot and the list of mods as used by MO I see no indications as to why you believe you aren't seeing the replacement textures, everything looks correct. The 'RUSTIC' mods don't have any issues with incorrect paths, you can examine this yourself with MO's 'Data' tab in the right pane. The mod that provides the texture will be listed and any mods that supply the same file, but are losing in the conflict, will be listed in the tooltip. There may be something with NIF files using hardcoded paths, but I doubt it. If you are conversant with xEdit you could examine your list and see which 'winning' plugin is calling which texture. Another avenue you may want to check is whether any of the mods that install with FOMODs are installing them correctly. Again this can be seen either in the 'Filetree' tab of the selected mod in MO's left pane or with the 'Data' tab in the right pane as described earlier.

GUIDE W3R: The Wild Hunt Revisited (Witcher 3)
GrantSP replied to Neovalen's topic in Unsupported Game Guides
This has just been released by a user to assist with AutoLOOT configuration. -
Correct.
-
TBH I've never really worried too much. Obviously if the filesizes are very different, ie. 100Kb or more, then I'd check what went wrong. For size differences of 1Kb or similar I'd put that down to rounding differences in whichever software code is providing the filesize. I haven't checked bu tit may be possible that Nexus displays the filesize of the uploaded version and the one that you get may be from a server in the CDN that is slightly older and smaller. The CDN only propagates new files to ALL servers when there is a different version number or filename and not all mods follow those standards, ie. the newer file may be to fix a very minor issue and the author deemed it unnecessary to change the version.

Handling .nxm links with nxmhandler.exe?
GrantSP replied to xXReDxSparoweXx's question in Mod Organizer Support
Correction. The extra setting that is initially called "other" MUST be renamed to match the game that you are downloading. ie. Fallout 4 == fallout4 in the 'Supported Games' column -

Excellent work! Glad you got it sorted out. -
Are people too soft today? Will there be consequences?
GrantSP replied to a topic in Step Banter Inn
This thread is as good as any to make a plug for something that is happening today (Sept 8th) here in Australia. One of the many mental health organisations is having a special day called "RU OK" day where everybody is encouraged to ask this simple question to someone they are close to, or concerned about. Add to this the fact that today is the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry's positive view of an inclusive universe where all sorts of people/aliens get along with each other, and I think it is good reminder for all of us to ask someone: "are you okay?" and regardless of their situation in life or social status or assigned place in society, be prepared to offer support with whatever they experience. So off you go and be nice. -

GrantSP replied to Abrown1301's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Run MP from outside MO and see if it gets past the Skyrim.esm loading message. If so we will need some input from @Mator as to what is happening. Those windows exception messages are just INFO messages, not errors, so they shouldn't have a bearing on this issue. I regularly get them occurring and my game suffers no issue. -

re. whale photos. Sorry I don't use a camera, however the guides did take some and have posted them on a Facebook page. Look for the ones from August 30th. Although some of the other galleries are more like the experience I had. They use a term called: "mugging" when the whale lifts it head out and looks at the boat. At one stage the whale was only 3 or 4 metres from us. -

Your logs show no issue with MO hindering MP from working, everything that should be indexed and loaded, as far as MO is concerned, is doing so. Create a new profile in MO and select only the vanilla mods, nothing extra. Start MP and see if will load the bare minimum. If it does so check the 'Logs' tab in MP and note any odd entries. This is what a vanilla load will look like: [spoiler=Merge Plugins log] [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Status: ProgramVersion: 2.1.3.0 [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Status: TES5 Dictionary Hash: $A914C1B0 [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Game: Using Skyrim [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Path: Using d:\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\ [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Dictionary: Using TES5Dictionary.txt [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Definitions: Using TES5Edit Definitions [10:44:56] (GENERAL) Load Order: Using D:\Games\ModOrganizer\TES5\profiles\Default\ [10:45:20] (CLIENT) Status: Attempting to connect to mergeplugins.us.to:960 [10:45:20] (LOAD) Background: [update.esm] Building reference info. On this matter I am completely at odds with you. I choose to apologise, not just because others may be hurt, but because it irritates/confuses me that these sort of discussions are being made in open forums. Those who don't experience these matters all too often assume that to discuss them openly is just an easy thing to do. Try to think from the other side, how would we feel if our very being was questioned all the time and we had to justify our existence whenever challenged? Am I soft? Maybe. Old? Relative to the majority in this forum, perhaps, but now I see that just because I have an opinion on a matter doesn't give me the right to share that opinion. If you and I were having this discussion alone, I would not apologise for stating it, you asked and I answered. However we are not having this alone and some may come here without the background of either of us or the context in which this discussion is based, it is to those few that I apologise. I once heard an older man respond to a feminist that became offended when he held a door open for her. His response was: "I didn't do it because you are female, I did it because I am a gentleman." So to paraphrase: "I apologise not because the world is too PC, but because it reflects my manners." -
Handling .nxm links with nxmhandler.exe?
GrantSP replied to xXReDxSparoweXx's question in Mod Organizer Support
No, you can set it to "Other" as @GSDFan suggests, but since it is not needed I find it simpler to just remove it. I use a similar process with Witcher 3 via NMM and all the Bethesda games, except FO4, via MO. -

Open an explorer window and clear the contents of MO's 'logs' folder. Next start MO and try to initiate MergePlugins with all the mods you have for the active profile. Close down both MP & MO. Post the contents of that folder here, either in "spoiler" tags, by using Pastebin or similar or by zipping them and posting the link. This will allow us to see where the "hooking" process is possibly failing in these instances. -
That may also have a lot to do with the Steam, which I believe your copy of Oblivion needs. The retail version suffers no issues with memory in my experience.

Are people too soft today? Will there be consequences?
GrantSP replied to a topic in Step Banter Inn
Why is that annoying? The person is still who they are and presumably if you are in a position to go to bed with them you would have formed a friendship based on more than physical attributes? To make a judgement on what a person's gender is based solely on physical attributes is very sad and highly inaccurate. Once upon a time gender was defined by whether the person had XY or XX chromosomes. That's the way I was taught in school. Now I know there is much much more to it. Hormone levels. Does the person possess gonads? Which variety?Primary characteristics such as genitalsSecondary physical characteristics: Bodymass (predisposition to fat in certain areas), breasts or lack thereof, musculature, body/facial hair, vocal frequency, skeletal structureOther less definable areas such as social conformity or expectations or even preferences in sexualitySo, if someone has a lot of body hair, large shoulders and thin hips, a deep voice and high levels of testosterone are you saying they are male even if they have female genitalia and identify as a woman? Should that person be allowed to take hormone treatment, shave regularly and perhaps surgery to adjust their outward appearance? Why is that different to a person that has the physical attributes of one gender but inwardly they identify as the other? Isn't that rather presumptive to prioritise the characteristics? Now what if a child was born with the more or less than the "socially acceptable number of" eyes or ears or digits on their hands or feet? Is it wrong to allow them, if they want, to have corrective surgery to allow them to feel better about themselves? Perhaps a child with missing organs should now be considered: "non-human" simply because they don't match to the "norm"? Quotes like this just go to show how easily we adhere to erroneous standards even when we think we may be enlightened. Let me re-iterate my view here by correcting the phrasing in these sentences. mutilate themselves - In what way exactly is this "mutilation"? A friend of mine had his ears pinned back in primary school, he still has remnants of scars to prove it, is that mutilation? change their sexuality - As we've just established they are not "changing", they are correcting a mishap in genetics that assigned them attributes that don't align with who they are. trauma something like this might have caused the child - Clearly you have very little to do with mental health issues. The "trauma" people suffer in their own mind is often much worse than any physical abnormalities that may afflict them.Humans are humans regardless of the shapes they come in or even the views they express. People are not "too soft" they are just given more freedom to express support, for or against, certain long-held views. As soon as we start to criticise others because they don't conform to our views we fall foul to the same arrogance they exhibit, only mirrored. As to the consequences? Consequences to what? Your question is based on an assumption that people are different to what they were previously, I contend they aren't, just more vocal about it. I very rarely engage in discussions of this sort, not because I don't have an opinion, but because it is fraught with the possibilty of hurting someone. If my comments offend anyone I sincerely regret that and apologise. I however felt compelled to say... something. -
Handling .nxm links with nxmhandler.exe?
GrantSP replied to xXReDxSparoweXx's question in Mod Organizer Support
There is a very easy way to ensure MO is only used to handle the games you want it to. Install NMM and use it to handle all the games you want it to, in this case Fallout 4, and ensure it is not set for any other. Next install MO and set it up to handle all the other games such as Skyrim, Fallout 3 etc. This way you don't have to add anything extra in the NXMHandler window as only the games you specify are listed. I use this method for Witcher 3 and all the Bethesda games. NMM for Witcher, MO for everything else. If you already have NMM set to handle games such as Skyrim you can "Choose Game Mode" (2nd icon on the top-right) and scan for all installed games. Deselect all the games you want MO to handle and select ONLY those that you want NMM to, press OK. NMM should now be set to use Nexus for only those games. -

GrantSP replied to a topic in Step Banter Inn
Not the sort of topic I was expecting to see upon my return from vacation! Wow, far too deep for me. All I'll say is: I watched humpbacks playing with their young and cavorting in the waters off Sydney harbour the other day and it was unbelievably amazing, forget humans and just chill with the wildlife. It is a truly humbling experience to have a massive creature raise its head out and look you in the eye, an experience that will stay with me a very long time. -
Odd issue with the forum showing the incorrect "latest" posts
GrantSP posted a question in Forum Support
I just returned from my holidays today and as you can imagine there are a lot of threads to go through, a lot has happened apparently. Anyway I started making my way through them and noticed that some threads seemed to take me to a page that was not the latest one I had read, many of them were from as early as January this year but most only a few months back. Often I would find myself five or six pages back in history even when the topic has had only one or two new posts! Is there an odd issue with the way the forum software keeps track of these things? I'm assuming cookies are involved but I have no idea why the dates on some topics get so messed up. I'm not too concerned with it but it strikes me as odd. -
LOOT White Screen While Using the --single-process argument
GrantSP replied to Rogdon's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
The 'loot' folder and an installed version of LOOT are two very different things. The full LOOT should not be installed into that folder under MO's main folder, that 'loot' is a stripped-down version that lacks the reporting window of the full install. LOOT, the full package, can safely be installed anywhere on your system and simply called from MO. If you installed LOOT that way you may consider moving it to somewhere else. -
Oblivion CTD when opening through Mod Organizer (Solved)
GrantSP replied to UnknownK's question in Mod Organizer Support
If you have the retail version, ie. non-Steam version, you should not set the Load Mechanism to 'Script Extender', that is a workaround to get the OBSE to function with the Steam code. ALL games need to be run at least once to generate a default set of INIs and upon running MO these are used for each new profile, there should be no need to manually move these to the current profile. Deleting "hook.dll" is effectively removing the functionality of MO from that installation. That file is an integral part of the mechanism MO uses to manage each game it is used on. -
[ Q & A ] Using FNIS with Mod Organizer
GrantSP replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
Actually the file you are seeing is not the same as that which is in the mod created by FNIS. Notice the tilde ~ at the start of the filename? This is the working copy of the file and it is being kept by mistake in MO's overwrite folder, probably due to another process hindering the FNIS tool from deleting it upon completion. Nothing reaally to worry about but I would suggest you check to see if any other processes such as AV packages, firewalls, drive imaging or other software is active. -
Windows exceptions are simply Windows not knowing what to do with a call that the programme makes to the OS, in this case the one listed in the log. Fortunately this isn't an issue as the log tags it correctly as "INFO" not "DEBUG" or "ERROR", you can safely ignore this line as it makes no difference to the game or your stability with MO.
