  1. Optimizing is for both better performance and for better visual. Some textures lack mip maps (Lower resolution of a texture that will be used when looked at further away). If they are not there then you will get increased "popping in" of textures. The better performance comes with altering the compression of certain textures that suffer no visual difference by going to a higher compression (Less memory use). Less memory causes less stuttering potential.
  2. ENB settings will overrule ini settings, Driver settings will overrule ENB in that order. Screen tearing should not be an issue if you have ENB enabled and have its vsync enabled. If your FPS is really low then you can get what looks like screen tearing, but it is just stuttering. Also stuttering in general can look like a screen tear. If all else fails force Vsync via driver.. if it still does it after that then it is most certainly not a vsync issue.
  3. Good to know.... but damn that is odd! Actually now that you mention it then I do recall there was an issue about that in the racemenu nexus thread WAY back. But strange since Racemenu does not have the textures and they are normally loaded after. Guess it is a script gone crazy and the link between the player and the texture path is messed up.
  4. Its still a test version. If you do not want (as much) hassle then stick with v200 otherwise wait until the next "major" version.
  5. Not that I do not enjoy a good lighting debate! But this thread is for RLO, not ELFX details! That should be kept over at that location!
  6. Picture or it did not happen! It is odd if it is only on you that it happens, since only the hands texture in 1st person is unique to the player. The rest are shared. Does it also happen without armor on etc ? Need a bit more detail.
  7. Yeah do not mind that silly vote as much Cabal! With my lighting and ENB your textures also won clearly over the competition! It is not for STEP core however (It is too awesome to be in that club anyways... shhhh I did not say that!). And finally... epic job on the last update! Really is much better! I might compress the normal.. but that is the only comment I could make on it. I just do not see any real difference with my lighting that warrants that memory use.
  8. Ofc. they can. If a script that is expected to run cannot finish (for whatever reason) the game will hang. If the script runs crazy and just requests more and more resources, then eventually you will CTD. If you know the API and scripting language you can manually open the scripts and update them. However the morale of the story is that bad coding can always cause programs to fail!
  9. Always keep backups.... Just in case you start getting purple models running about the woods! It takes up a lot of space.. and if you do not have several TB of space then it might be an issue. But in general always keep backups. The process can fail, and it will eventually when you try to alter a certain texture type into something it cannot show.
  10. 1. It alters and fixes textures of the DDS type based on input. 2. Yes it is. If it does not take that long then you have done something wrong. You are asking it to open and compress several GB´s worth of data. 3. The ignore tap is mainly there if you want to just move textures about to new locations, or if you want to extract them from bsa archives. 4. It is likely that the process can fail on one or more textures. This is why you should NEVER just do it on your entire mod lib. The main error is faulty compression, or wrong compression for that particular texture type (There are more then one yes). If you see some purple models running around ingame then that is most likely what happened.
  11. Sounds really interresting on the weathers.... Been messing with ENB and CoT for months now.. and it is really a nightmare. I will try to get some screenshots up of various locations and send them to you when I got time. ATM I am in the process of updating my various ENB files to the modern age so that I do not have to go in and out of the game anymore!... however it does take a LONG time with all those parameters!
  12. I also switched from RLO to ELFX after the previous major update to ELFX. Main reason was... it has proper window lighting. Palace of the kings in windhelm showed it all to me. However ELFX does have a bit.... too extreme spot light use. However nothing that ENB cannot fix! The vital point is that the light source is actually there, and that their intensity is somewhat uniform. One thing I miss from RLO is the color choice.... ELFX is just a bit too yellow. Even ENB cannot really fix it since curves also alter how bright something becomes so the only option would be CK or Tes5editing all light color values. As for weathers... I am going to try it out when it hits... might be easier to adjust then CoT is for ENB. There are just a few way too extreme weathers in there. Also people should really stop saying 500 weathers... since I am 100% sure you do not add 500 unique weatherID´s... rather a few with different cloud combinations which then add up. I know it is semantics but it really is a bit misleading imo! :)
  13. Technically it can be due to 4x2Gb .. since those are "slower" then 2x4Gb unless you got a fancy server mobo that allows quad channel. However the reading speed sounds kinda low... but have never performed any tests of that type. On the other side then 30 sec for a full SR install and if you use 2k textures does not sound entirely unrealistic either. Without some other blocks of memory to test with I guess it would be difficult to verify anything.
  14. "Its perfectly safe! " Famous last words! :P But yeah it should really not be required, the only thing you gain from it is a placebo effect "that it is better". I am much the same, but in terms of starting over on this then you will burn out fast from playing with mods if all you do is look at the install screen.
  15. You get the mod that remove fog from loading screens.
  16. No need to remove MO just because you want to do try different lists. If I understand you correctly. If you want to remove mods just make a new profile and they will all be alphabetized and disabled and you can remake from the beginning. The ini files are imported from the default ones created when you first ran the game as I recall. You can also just copy in from your previous profile to save time with the ordering and setup and then download new mods and enable those over others.
  17. Try to disable the glowing books mod and see if the problem persist. Perhaps it conflicts with book covers skyrim etc.
  18. Marked as solved
  19. Well they do work... the question is just for how long! We do not really have any indepth testing of stability until recently. Once the RAM issue was highlighted, then everybody started to go down to 1k textures, which improved stability by a lot for most people, however freezes started to happen instead of CTD´s. The next great hurdle in large mod lists is script stability. How many scripts can you run at a given time and still have the game behave! Here experience shows that you cannot run with everything at once. You have to make hard choices on which gameplay features you want to maintain stability. In this region then combat is really script intensive if you both got combat overhauls, and combat effects overhauls! Removing the latter improves stability while in combat. As for the random freezes out in the wilds, then spawn point issues or AI issues due to increased spawns have shown to be a major factor. If you remove mods like SkyTEST then you do get less issues, since it effectively add both extra spawns, extra AI, and extra combat.... all contributing factors that if you remove the mod, make the game more stable. At the end of the day you just have to make up with yourself..... how long do I want to be able to play without freezes... the longer you want to the less script mods you need to use. All in not bad however.. as mods gets updated and scrpts gets optimized then the situation gets better. But this process takes time.Â
  20. Consensus is that.... well it works for most people. It does not solve ALL issues, like Boris says himself. That would never be possible without source access. It does help. And it is different from stuff like memory optimizers, since those are designed to "work" in general. This program only works on Skyrim by using built in "code" in the game engine... that is a vital difference. Compared to previous ENB versions then performance is improved and you will get more FPS. Compared to vanilla then you most likely will not see any FPS improvement at all. As for the guide... then yes I have said I would like to do so, but atm I am finishing up my own ENB preset since I apparently lured Rootsrat into testing for me in proper, and providing feedback. Also I have major real life issues that kinda needs to be taken care of in this period as well.
  21. Quite a project.... but making it compatible with other lighting mods, and weather mods is going to be the job for a group and not just a single person. But interesting and one to watch!
  22. Boris does not make documentation :P And I know very well how much... almost the only thing I am doing with this game is tweak ENB´s That I do not release so often is because I am never happy with my work... And I hate ENB manager with a vengence... for some strange reason it can mess up ENB´s and I personally have no problem with copy paste :)
  23. I am almost sure that I can make it have a seam if I want too :P Making a body/head/hand texture seamless for vanilla lighting have been done.. the trick is doing it for a wide range of ENB´s, heck just doing it for all of CoT would be nice. But most certainly looking forward to that! Thanks for the info!
  24. Well there was a reason nobody have been on this thread for over a month ;)
