  1. Is the resolution not that we agree to disagree ? We do not say your entire guide is bad, just that based on anecdotal evidence there are parts of it we do not recommend people trying. And you can do the same. Since this seems to me to be at the core of the issue. Seems like a perfectly good solution! And then someday when all involved are more cooled down and clear we can have another healthy technical and philosophical debate.
  2. Lovely! Marking as solved then! :)
  3. Yeah if its the first time loading up the game it takes longer (Like I had 10 mins in some cases, but after that it was almost instant for the same load). Try to give it at least few minutes! The idea of going out of the game etc. and its not responding can be misleading, since the process of going out to check can be what does it.
  4. It comes down to mod list issues. If you have the issue with vanilla then obviously its a vanilla issue. I personally have just about none of them... I did have issues with 10 min loading times... but never infinite. Now I finished my major compatibility and culling of my list and I have very quick loading times.
  5. Was also wondering .... what ? Does this even matter in any way? I could care less about what goes on over at reddit. Also what is wrong with the link... I am confused ? Edit: Removed the link due to request... as stated. And now let us get back on track! Pretty pictures and stuff! :D
  6. Well I like graphical programming where you get a visual output at the end. The only thing that is really REALLY annoying about it is that there is a severe lack of debugging and pre compilation. Hence if I forgot a ; after a line and go ingame and its not working..... well I can spend a while looking for that silly ; where a simple debugger would have found that instantly.
  7. Yours is superior to his, since his had clipping issues with ENB. Mainly at mountains and the far LOD. Yours does not. Hence why I changed to your version! In general I am very happy with your work, and it reflects many things that I was almost about to do since many of the weathers in CoT just does not make sense. However now I have made my own ENB preset from the ground up which addresses most of these issues, making sure that just about all weathers, with your patches included, looks great! Still need to go over it all in tes5edit... but overall it works nicely ingame when testing using fw.
  8. No worries I guess I can do that part if it ever becomes relevant. I just finished up making my own from the ground up! Studying HLSL is kinda fun. :)
  9. This is what I am trying to tell you that it is not the intention. Nobody is saying "Do not use his guide at all". If that was the cause then it would be true! Like I said, I personally do use some of your advice when I help other people, because they are sound and working! But I do not say to people that they should just follow your entire guide in its total, since that might not work for all, with all mod lists! I would do this for any guide however even STEP. If you look back, I was one of the first to say that the Z- fighting tweaks that where included did much more harm then good. There was also another tweak about interiors that did alot of issues in certain dungeons, I was also one of the first to say this was bad to use. But I never said that STEP as a whole was bad because of a few isolated entries that are it. The same applies to your guide! Neither is your guide. It is not even blacklisted. I read what you typed in yellow. But the fact remains that this is exactly the same thing we are doing here. Certain parts of your guide we do not advocate. The main reason being that "numerous" people can confirm that it does not work with their load orders. This does again NOT mean that we bash or condemn your entire guide, we just say people should try not to use it and see if the problems go away! No since ENBoost is not developed by us, but by Boris, in fact nobody here has half the technical knowhow he does. However the testing over at his forums and the multitude of people which says it is working backs it up. All with monitor programs, that show the figures match, and play experience that is now smoother etc. Also with it its possible to load in almost full 2k textures and normal in exteriors without issues. Where if you do not use then then you will get CTD and missing textures almost instantly! But to conclude, STEP has nothing to do with the development of ENB. STEP also do not advocate its use yet, since it is still being tested by people here. I personally advocate it since it is working for me, and many others as long as you have it setup correctly! Yeah thats just wrong, ENBoost is in a final version since 2 weeks ago now. Boris have decided that there is nothing else to do since its working, and issues are due to peoples horrible mod lists. Current developement has gone back to graphical functions again. Where do you get this from ? Like I said, you have some great advice in there, but certain parts, are not! I think its a great resource, but just because I do not agree with certain parts of it does not mean I overlook the rest! And nobody here have ever done that! In that regard I sincerely think you are overreacting! About concrete evidence. I can personally provide you with it (And there are other people in another thread about it that reported the same). It causes micro stuttering etc. And guess what, if you setup ENBoost with bad settings for your system, the very same issues will also be apparent there! Hence there is a game issue, but the difference is that one is specially made for skyrim, where the other is not, and hence one is ineffective! Also to return to my above argument. If I setup a my texture amount in exteriors to the very limit of MY machine running with ENBoost then the game is mostly stable and working. If I remove ENBoost, almost instant CTD, and missing textures! If i do it with cleanmem ... the same. Conclusion ENBoost does something that cleanmem does not! conclusion, cleanmem is ineffective, and does not allow the same settings to be used. Sorry for me saying, but that makes little sense. Your title is Skyrim.. the majority of your content is skyrim. Yes some of it applies to other games, but the way I see it then the guide as a whole is for skyrim, not any other game. As for the rest. If someone developed a better API then MS has in by standard, do you not think they would then implement that as standard? But that is largely a debate that does not belong here I guess.Â
  10. Okay just to chip in with stuff releveant to the guide as a whole first. Just a few days ago we had an incident with a person who had used your guide in its entirety using his mod list, and he had problems with just about all. The advice was to restore vanilla .ini´s and remove cleanmen. And then the game worked better. Granted that he might not have done everything 100% as your guide states, but that is a common issue for STEP as well. Not everybody is tech savy or have a general understanding of the concepts the first time around. But as along as people learn then its good! When people come here and say they followed your guide, then obviously this post is the first place to come since that is what get when you use the search function. Just like people reference other tweak guides around the web. In all cases then we would like to be able to provide support as needed. To this extent then a place like this will always be created. And if that support means saying "try to not use all of this stuff" and it then works for people then it is not because your guide is bad, or just because they might not have followed it 100%. The game engine is old and meh, and there are mod list differences and system differences. But it is has nothing to do with trying to discredit your work, or anything similar! You have found settings that work for your install and you try to share it! But other peoples setups are different, and they might not work for them! Telling them that they should try to undo your work, is not the same as saying your work is bad! Further stuff about your guide and criticism of others work: Your very own guide have extensive areas of "blacklisting" other mods, and you also say that people should not trust save game cleaners. Is this not doing the exact same as some people here are doing about cleanmem ? You say that people should not use enhanced blood textures! The mod works perfectly as it should on smaller mod lists! Is the mod then automatically worth condemnation ? It seems a bit hypocritical of you to say we should remove reference to your guide, because we do not like one aspect, when your very own guide is doing the same to others. In general about ini tweaks: Based on reports from people over the last few months, then the general consensus among the support staff, and guests in general is that, less ini tweaks are better. Even over at the ENB forums this is starting to sink in. People have been using many weird memory, and threaded tweaks for so long, that most do not even remember where they got them from. And in just about all cases, those specific tweaks does absolutely nothing for the game. (Which has been proven by Boris over at the ENB forums during his creation of his ENBoost). So far based on how people report ini tweak issues, then I advice after the a golden rule! Less tweaks are better! In general about memclean: Its a 3rd party software that claims to do good things for your entire machine. However when oh so many technically competent people out there say that this sort of stuff is placebo effect half the time and smoke and mirrors the other then one should listen to them! If not then just the simple logical idea. If someone made something that was more effective then MS for the ENTIRE system (not just skyrim) .... do you not think that MS would buy that thing and implement it ASAP? Also what happens to other games and programs ? Can you say it will work safely for ALL application ? No you cannot, since your guide is about skyrim only! So even if it somehow seems to do something to the skyrim process, then it might not do it for everything else, and by that argument alone one should not touch it. At least that is my opinion about it. Even ATTK which is more or less the same thing, but it only affected the skyrim process! So even it was "better". Instead of continuing to advocate this software, why do you not go over to ENBoost, which is proven to work, and which only work for Skyrim. It would make more sense, since its a guide on how to make Skyrim stable after all. That would make more sense in my mind at least. Phew that was a long one. To finish off. I personally have great respect for the work you have made with your guide, and I have used a few tips from it and said to others they should try it out themselves. But please do not keep up with this "We bash your entire guide" thing because it is not true, we simply do the same as you do when you advice caution against certain other tweaks, and mods!
  11. I am sure I said this already... make sure you have JawZ excellent guide at hand! He did most of what you are doing already. I think he also have the values if I recall.. have not used it in ages since I know what most of the things do now! And yeah.. I should have said all parameters you can alter ingame! you should use 1000! If you did that on sizescale.... I think you would just get an error at start since there would not be that much memory hehe. Unless he built in some sort of limiter, which I am fairly sure he did.
  12. That is the only way, since those values are all tucked away inside the .dll. Instead of pressing plus or minus I would just input 1000 though... as I recall then no value is higher then that. Also I think 0 is the min for just about all of the values... only thing I recall having negative values are ones I added myself. But it is a kinda pointless information. What I would suggest you focus on is what it does to increase or decrease the setting. Since you can produce good results with having silly high values, if you just compensate in other areas. Like most curves behave in the same way, higher values shift the colors towards more white, and lowering towards more black. This would save you having to write the same thing over and over. Especially under the environment and Sky settings.
  13. SSS is mainly to affect skin and a few other objects, like candles. What it does is add a sort of glow that happens on such semi transparent surfaces. For example if you shine a light through your hand you will be able to see it ... this is the extreme case of the effect. As for seams, then it is impossible to entirely remove them since they depend on lighting conditions, adaptation settings, and what have you. The best you can do is minimize the effect. And here SSS can go both ways.
  14. In this case I would actually say that vanilla is on to something better then the other two. They just look too much like letters have been glued on. The lettering would most likely never be paint, but burned into the wood to ensure maximum longevity. Perhaps add a bit of moss to it for good measure. Hence there should not be any white at all... but that is just what I hope to one day see. Perhaps if I ever get the time I will make one that has that feature. But other then that then I agree with what is mainly the consensus... vanilla legible for core, and redone for something else.
  15. About Monitor calibration : No... since any monitor calibration would have to take place in front of the actual monitor! This is also why there are only general guides out there on the topic. It is a bit hairy, and it does take a while to get it done properly. But most of the time then its a one time thing you have to do. There is test software you can use, but again its fairly technical, and most of the time you are looking for very small changes. But ultimately then the only thing that matters is that you think the image looks nice. The only way I know that this monitor I use now is far superior color wise then the previous one is because I tested them against each other. Yes it also says so in the documentation, but that means very little. What really matter is how you perceive colors. Edit: About your monitor. Its a TN panel, which also means you must make sure that you are viewing it from a very specific angle or you will get gamma degradation which adversely affect the colors!
  16. Actually color richness depends on the monitor you are using, and how much of the sRGB area it can cover. As for it being neutral then I am not sure what you mean by that. You can have one that is both warm and color rich, and one that is cool and color rich. But again depending on monitor then it might look really bad if you do not have about equal coverage towards both the red and blues. There is also the actual textures and how intense their colors are to consider.
  17. Well guess instead of "He went out with a bang" we can go to "He went out with a salmon" All the best MannyGT! Hope you find something fun to do after all of this! :)
  18. Its a nice compilation for people with very old machines, or just laptops. For any computer with a semi decent graphics card then its a bit meh. I am still not entirely convinced that it is required to go so low in resolutions to maintain stability. But that is a discussion for another thread! The main benefit from this is that then people do not have to go about and use DDSopt themselves, since someone else have already done it, and uploaded it. Would help the people who are really keen on just getting playing with a minimal amount of fuss.
  19. Okay the "crusade" continues! Performance in ENB presets is not set in stone... hence it should NEVER be used as a reason too use it! ANY ENB preset can be made to cripple your system! Even with a Titan... which is another funny thing. I love when people who have the best cards around say something have stellar performance! ;) But about what really matter in an ENB. The color and tonemapping is nicely done. A tad bit too much green emphasis which oversaturates the yellows imo. But it is really well done in trying to make the game look cold! Which is actually quite difficult to do, since most of the textures respond better to warmer colors then cold.
  20. Hmm in terms of dragon masks I still think Apophysis´s version is superior. It deviates quite a bit from vanilla, but they just look more awesome imo. I am not the biggest fan of the "robot" look that vanilla/Cabal seems to be going for.
  21. Been looking over this old thread again and think its because your hardware is woefully outdated. And looking at which components you have, then even when they where new they where not among the better components on the market. I am almost certain that would be the main reason. But if it works nicely enough at 32bit then keep it there. If you are going to upgrade to a 64bit system with the reasoning "I will get more performance" then you need more memory.
  22. If you like the effect from Real Rain you can just copy in the texture you wish to use, and use the CoT version. All it does is link the texture to the CoT rain so its used. It does not actively alter any of the weathers. You would have to use some of the extended versions of the mod... as I recall anyways.
  23. If you are using the weather patch for CoT You do NOT need to also use Supreme and volumetric fog... in fact as I recall they conflict since they try to do the same thing.
  24. When you increase the LOD detail then ILS is much more likely to happen. Its part of the game engine for now, and there is no fix at this time. ENBoost might help a little bit, but ultimately it is an engine flaw.
  25. Seems like you have an older version of ENBoost... that might also contribute to the issue. Also since you are just using ULO then there is no need to activate the graphics parts of ENB.. since those will conflict. so first UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false -> true to disable all color correction other then SweetFX. The memory tab should look like this (At least it does in all the never versions of ENB... dunno what happens at the nexus site, I always get it from ENB´s webpage and adjust myself.) [MEMORY] ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true DisableDriverMemoryManager=false DisablePreloadToVRAM=false EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false ReservedMemorySizeMb=512 VideoMemorySizeMb=8192 -> 3072 You should alter the bottom most to your VRAM size first and then see if that is stable. Since you use AMD then you might also have to enable some of the above. You should only enable MemoryHacks if you absolutely must. In case of ingame stuttering etc. then alter the two numbers. Always going in powers of 2. Also the VideoMemorySize can only max be around 10Gb... built in limit. You can put in higher but it has not effect. ReservedMemory goes down instead of up... should not go below 128Mb, and not above 1024Mb. If I recall correctly. As for the player homes.... then my guess would be that you have some mods that conflict with Hearthfire. Which I cannot tell from just looking at the list since I have not spendt that much time messing with the homes other then making sure my own mods are compatible in tes5edit. Feel free to bump the thread if you think it is too far down. Just do not overdo it! We are moving threads around atm, so it might get pushed down a bit.Â
