Well, it's slower and faster at the same time. Which sounds weird, but that is how computers work for most things. Hard drives move data faster than SSDs, but we say SSDs are faster because they move lots more data at once. Think of it like a driving 50 kids to school, the HDD is a corvette and the SSD is a school bus. Time to interface for every generation of RAM is getting exponentially slower, but we have faster clock speeds and newer RAM bursting methods that speed it up in other ways, so we say it's faster. Even when dual core CPUs came out they were clocked much lower than single core CPUs for heat concerns, but they did more work regardless, so we said they were faster. 64-bit applications can do similar things, like any other technology, and use more resources that are available to them to appear faster when really they are just doing much more work at the same or slower speed. Also, your hardware/drivers/OS have a butt load of stuff built in to help the applications along. I'd be surprised if Skyrim runs worse with this update (after Beth issues a few patches of course).

SKYRIMLE Bethesda: A Cesspit of Endless Theft and Greed
EssArrBee replied to mlee3141's topic in Step Banter Inn
If they left it as a 32-bit game then it would just be the same game with some extra DLC basically. If it is the same thing as the Xbone and PS4 version then it would be a port and would be 64-bit. There isn't any reason for them not to make it 64-bit though since it is easier than ever to port over games because they all run x86 now. No more Cell architecture stuff to worry about. -

Have we tested the beta DDL 2.0 yet?

I'd say that we could just tell users to use the full version unless you are going to install the city overhaul mods. We do something similar with another mod that I can't remember right now because I've been away too long.
-
So where are we right now with this release? I'm severely under informed right now.

Here's how it works: Use ENBoost and you get a hit to FPS, but you don't have memory crashes. Or, don't use ENBoost and you get memory crashes. Even with the 4GB enabler, there is so much the game can handle. Textures just eat up a ton of memory. You could downgrade a few texture packs to smaller versions if you don't want to use ENBoost.

Guess I haven't paid attention to AMD in so long I didn't even notice they didn't use a bridge anymore. The bridge is used for rendered pixel data to sync timing between both cards and doesn't need a ton of bandwidth. At least it didn't in the past, but now that everyone is moving to higher resolutions, so the move to a 2GB/s bridge is probably necessary. Most the other data is still sent through the PCIe lanes. My guess is that AMD ditched the bridge since PCIe latency has really dropped from 2.0 to 3.0, so it doesn't matter if you use a bridge or not. I'd bet they have some built in tech to handle GPU concurrency in CF setups if they ditched the bridge and nVidia doesn't have their tech developed yet. The only advantage then of the bridge is if you need to shave time off the data transfer, like fractions of a nanosecond over the PCIe bus. It could just go from card to card instead of from one GPU to the CPU to the other GPU. Those hardware guys can get pretty crazy about that stuff, so I wouldn't put it pass them.

The reference cooler is on the regular model. There is a new cooler they had on the founder's edition that kept the GPU at 67C with the core clock over 2K during the presentation. That's pretty insane. What? The bridges connect to the outside of the cards, not on the board for both nVidia and AMD. They usually go along the outside so they don't mess with anything else.
-
I was just reading the article Anandtech posted and it seems the 1070 is getting regular gddr5. Also, the new cooler they designed is only on the founder's edition. Wouldn't be nVidia if they didn't add some extra fee somewhere. One other thing the presentation didn't mention was a new generation of SLI that will require a new bridge. Apparently they needed something for the higher bandwidth. That should lead to a nice boost for SLI compute efficiency.

I think multi monitor and VR stuff was pretty awesome. The lower overhead is exiting but will most likely only work in newer games. I'm curious if they will go back to double precision for the Titan model. It doesn't do number crunchers much good if it's single like the Titan X. I guess they have forgotten about shared memory for multi GPU setups as well since single card performance is growing at a freaky rate and they don't mind adding lots of RAM. Still it's exiting to see one generation outperform the last in SLI and a pretty sweet price. It is clear nVidia is trying to corner the VR market with this card and the VR/multi screen tech. Once they do that you can bet the prices will go back up.

Hey Mono, GamerPoets put out his video for FNV setup if you want to add it somewhere in the guide. I haven't been around much since I was busy getting married, so I'm still gonna be away for another 10 days at least. I don't feel like messing with the guide since the wifi at my hotel is pretty sketchy. -
You don't need a follower mod. The default setting is off for followers and you turn it on in the MCM.

No. YUP takes care of everything.

Evolution of PC Gaming. What's your story?
EssArrBee replied to TechAngel85's topic in Step Banter Inn
We had everything when I was a kid. Commodore 64, Atari, Nintendo, Apple 2... I got to play all those old games. I loved Dig Dug, Frogger, Centipede, and Galaga. Then later on I got into Contra, Double Dragon, all the Nintendo stuff like Mario and Zelda. From there I got further away from PC gaming. I always thought those old RPGs were more frustrating than they were fun, so I tended toward consoles since most non-RPG games were multi-platform. Once the Pentium CPUs and hardware accelerators (that's what we used to call GPUs) started coming out, I got back into it. My first GPU had 16MB of memory and PC had 64MB of RAM. I thought it was the pinnacle and there was no way they'd ever make better graphics. Playing all those shooter games really got a hold of me for years. Basically, the only thing I played for the better part of a decade was twitch shooters and occasionally N64. Doom, Quake, Unreal, and Duke Nukem were so much fun. It all started with that first gen Pentium processor. I still remember when my dad brought it home. They were actually made in the US too. Up in Santa Fe. That pretty much took me up to grad school. I became obsessed with work and study, so I didn't play much except for the occasional Xbox match of Halo, Mech Assault, or Madden on the weekends. Any time I was in front of a computer I was using it for school or some other project I was working on. It wasn't until I my last year working for the DoD that I built a new gaming rig. I let that thing die and haven't built a gaming rig since. I have a workstation, but I just can't bring myself to install windows on it. -

I'm almost positive that is why they moved the armor into the floor, so you'd have to use the recipe to get the armor.
