Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - pre 2.xx
maedrhos replied to sheson's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
I found an unexpected error while running the DynDOLOD Script inside TESVEdit: Error in unit 'prepare' on line 264 : Undeclared Identifier 'bGlowLocalMap'. Here is the bug report. Anyone have a suggestion on how to begin identifying the problem? TES5Edit_bugreport.txt I tried "hiding" it but the editor directions weren't written for a guy who studied English a half century ago. The process worked on Monday and the the only difference is that today I updated to v1.45 of DynDOLOD and moved the TESVEdit Scripts into the TESVEdit file in case they had also changed. Edit: I solved the problem by completely deleting the old file and script and re-installing anew. My first attempt was to write over the old files. I can't see why that makes a difference but it solved this problem. -

ENB Dirty Lens and Large Saved Games
maedrhos posted a question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I just ended a 790 hour play-through using your SL:RE setup from November last year. There were three areas I couldn't enter in game due to some non-SL:RE quest mods which I've now taken out. Otherwise the game was incredibly stable. I can't thank you enough for all the great work you have done and the support you continue to provide this community. I had to stop because I couldn't load a save game after it passed 23 GB MB so I've just updated the game to your latest version and will use the console commands to pick up where I left off at Level 73 just after the Paarthurnax Dilemma. I have two questions: I encountered the dirty lens effect in ENB 0.279 for the first time.....didn't like that at all...Can you make a suggestion on how to safely remove seeing a dirty lens? Is an inability to load a save game so large related to the hardware or the software? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks again. Edit...I solved the dirty lens problem: it was a file labeled enblensmask.png that was in the same Skyrim folder as TESV.exe. It has been there for over a year but the new version of ENB used it as if it were a smudge on a camera lens. -
SR:LE and quest mods, many many quest mods
maedrhos replied to Ojack's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
I am 170 hours into a game using SR:LE and the quest mods: Interesting NPCs Moon and Star The Lost Wonders of Mzark The Shadow of Meresis The Secret of Dragonhead The Temple of Black Rock Caranthir Tower 2 Clearspire Ogmund's Tomb Ravens Nest Tower Raven's Rest Raven Rock Expanded Windcaller Pass and Wyvern Rock I also have about 20 follower mods and am at the 255 .esp limit. The game is remarkably stable but there are cells along the south shore of Lake Ilinalta and along the Hjaal River which cause CTDs. Rather than experiment with building Conflict Resolution patches I'm just using COC commands to bypass the problem cells. Another issue relates to the number of followers: taking 10 or more followers into a town will cause CTDs. I get around this by simply parking them outside town and dismissing them until I return (I use EFF). Getting this far though took about 9 months of modding. As Dragon King says tea and good music are required but you can hope. -
I use SR:LE with some of the mods you recommend: Hunterborn, Interesting NPCs, and Fishing in Skyrim. Some of the others I tried and dropped simply because of the 255 .esp limit on the game. I wouldn't be afraid to try them if you don't mind modding and I've spent more time modding this past year than playing the game. The difficulty is that Neovalen makes you a ready made Conflict Resolution Patch for his setup. This is a huge time saver and makes the game stable. The more you deviate from his setup the more time you will need to spend learning techniques to resolve conflict resolution rather than playing the game.

I've tried both. S.T.E.P is good in that it is stable, lore friendly and well supported. SR:LE is wonderful in that it is also stable, reasonably lore friendly with even better support. It is also Neovalen's vision of what Skyrim should be and he treats it as an opus. It is more realistic and immersive than S.T.E.P., still lore friendly and sexier in the way of Robert Howard's original Conan stories and Boris Fallejo's art. I highly recommend SR:LE over S.T.E.P. and you will not sleep soundly until you've tried it.

I took the opposite tack and completed a stable installation of Core Extended with the STEP Extended Patch and then added in the SRLE additions + conflict resolution patch + about 20 other mods (including Interesting NPCs, Inconsequential NPCs, Duel, SkyTest, Enemy AI Overhaul and a dozen follower mods like Vilja, Cerwiden, Hoth, Valfar, etc. ) + a merge patch + a bash patch. I tried making my own conlict resolution patch after watching the instructional video and quickly found I was sinking in over my head. I completely abandoned the idea when I was surprised to see the Stormcloaks without clothes. The game was unstable and I was getting warnings that Frostfall had stopped working due to Script Overloads so I pulled out Interesting NPCS, Inconsequential NPCs, SkyTest and Enemy AI Overhaul. The game is now reasonably stable with random CTDs while wandering the country side (there seems to be a particular spot on the road between Helgen and Riverwood near the small waterfall that has a CTD) and entering doors accompanied by 99% GPU usage indicators. I've got an Nvidia 780 with 3GB VRAM and am considering an SLI bridge for a second 780 card if I'm still hitting hardware limitations after upgrading the motherboard and CPU. If anyone is interested I'll post my load order and new hardware specs once the computer comes home from the hospital.

Don't Want to Use Alternate Start
maedrhos replied to maedrhos's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Thank you both for thoughtful answers. I decided to simply follow DanielCoffey's suggestion and just use the crossing the border choice. Apart from the video in the SR:LE conflict resolution section made by Sharlikran are there any resources that fully explain how to build my own conflict resolution patch and to judge whether or not I need to make one? Edit: Actually found a guide for FNV Edit https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/38413/?tab=4&&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fcomments%2F%3Fmod_id%3D38413%26page%3D1%26sort%3DDESC%26pid%3D0%26thread_id%3D272888&pUp=1 which downloads in .pdf and looks pretty comprehensive. This was updated in October 2013. Would still appreciate it if anyone else knows of another guide. -
I've played the game using SR:LE suggested set up but now want to exclude the mod "Alternate Start Live Another Life" which is used as a master for the SR Conflict Resolution Patch. How do I edit out the overrides using this mod as Master? This seems to be preferable to creating another Conflict Resolution Patch from scratch.

Makes sense. Thanks for taking time to help.

Whenever I run a Dual Sheath Redux patch from inside Mod Organizer there is a bunch of stuff in the Overwrite Folder. It looks like FNIS makes .tri meshes each time I start the game so I'm dragging those to the FNIS mod. I've been deleting the text files and anything with Dual Sheath Redux on it is being dragged to the DSR patch. Have I pretty much got this right?

ACCEPTED Improved Close Faced Helmets (by navida1)
maedrhos replied to mothergoose729's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Clarification: Since I've followed your instructions you've given to MERGE the Improved Closefaced Helments_Legendary.esp the instructions on the Improved Closefaced Helmets Wiki Page: "Notice:Currently BOSS doesn't recognize the Improved Closefaced Helmets_Legendary.esp, so you will have to manually move it in your load order to come immediately after ExplosiveBoltsVisualized.esp" would now seem to be irrelevant since I can't move a merged esp. Is this correct? -
Outstanding. Thank you very much Outstanding. Kudos for taking the time to help me.

Thanks for your insight. Since I don't need the BCFs I first unchecked the box next to BCF.dat, right clicked on BCF-Missing and chose "set data directory" and it didn't get rid of the red warning. Then I tried the opposite: unchecked the box next to BCR-Missing and its subsidiary file wizard.txt and set BCF.dat as the data directory and still the red script "No game data on top level" was looking at me. Finally, I tried unchecking all the boxes and set the top line <data> as the data directory. I wasn't surprised that this didn't work either but don't yet know enough about abject futility to not try it. I'm obviously in a cul-de-sac as a result of a wrong turn but can't see where I went wrong. EDIT: Perhaps I missed your meaning entirely. Do you mean that since I don't need the BCFs that I shouldn't have downloaded these two files in the first place since I'm using Mod Organizer? Perhaps the only file I need is the first one: Skill Interface Re-Texture which installed immediately?

Sorry, junior modder here who is lost without step-by-step instructions. I've downloaded and installed the Skill Interface R-Texture. The notes on the STEP Wiki page are Detailed instructions available BCF Available (Dawnguard patch), BCF Available which link to two more files and instructions on choices which I presume are in the additional files because the Skill Interface Re-Texture didn't allow me to make any of the recommended choices (Star Background, Perk Lines, etc.). I moved the two additional files after download to my Mod Organizer Download file and when I tried to install the two additional files (Skill_Interface_(Dawnguard)_5.0.0-7308-BCF.7z and Skill_Interface_6.0.0-BCF.7z) I get a "No Game Data on Top Level" Error. I've seen this several time now and the solution is to right click on one of the files and choose "Set Data Directory". But in this instance there are two files in each mod: BCR-Missing and BCF.dat with no further instructions on which of the two files to choose. What do I do to get rid of the "No Game Data on Top Level" error?

Brilliant! I had a better chance of winning Warren Buffet's Billion Dollar March Madness Challenge than I did of figuring that out on my own. Thank you very much for making the time to spell it out so clearly.

The mod is the Skyrim Script Extender and I am trying to follow the instructions on the STEP Wiki page: "This 'mod' requires a special install: Place *.exe and *.dll into <skyrim>/ (not the data directory!) Repackage skse*.zip: Extract Data/ Repackage into a new zip file (name it accordingly) Place into MO downloads directoryInstall repacked archive via MO Add the following to <skyrim>DataSKSEskse.ini (create INI if necessary):"I'm having difficulty completing Step 3.

Thanks for taking time to help me out. Here is a facsimile of what I'm seeing: > <data> > {Check Marked Box} Data When I right click on <data> nothing happens. When I right click on > {Check Marked Box} Data and choose "Set Data Directory" it changes to >{Check Marked Box} Strategy. When I right click this and choose "Set Data Directory" it disappears altogether leaving me with <data>. At no point does the red "No game data on top level" disappear. If I attempt to ignore any of the warnings I still get a red x marked file.

For some reason this doesn't work for me. Clicking on 'Set data directory' doesn't yield any visible results and when I proceed (ignoring the warning: "This mod was probably NOT set up correctly, most likely it will NOT work. You should first correct the directory layout using the content-tree") I get an installed mod titled Data with a red X in the flag column. Is this WAD?
