Ah, thank you. I wasn't aware of that function. That does look like it could have some issues with the changes to the Editor IDs. I'd say the chances of it causing any problems are still pretty low, and I'm not aware of any mods that use this function to check for any of my keywords. However, it's good to know about that.

Can you share which script functions use the EDID? Most script functions will reference keywords which are declared as properties of that script.

ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Main Quest (by cdcooley)
kryptopyr replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I like the idea behind this mod, but I don't think it seems right for Core. Particularly given the author even says: "I don't recommend this mod for anyone who hasn't already completed the main quest in its original form at least once." Given that statement, Extended seems like a better fit. -
I think Paarthurnax Bypass could very well be a better fit for STEP. It uses a simpler dialogue exchange with voiced dialogue and is a bit more "generic" in the tone and wording of the dialogue, which seems to make it blend much more seamlessly into the game and feel more immersive for a wider range of characters. The one thing I never cared for about Paarthurnax Dilemma is that the dialogue always felt out of place and almost never fit the nature of the character I was playing.

Is anyone testing this mod alongside this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/63900/? I'm very interested in both of these mods and hoping they'll work together without issue. Timing is Everything just allows you to control what level (and a few other conditions) are required before a quest is triggered. You can use it to delay quests until later in the game, but it won't alter the pacing of any quests once they've actually started. The one exception might be the Dawnguard quest, where you can set different levels at which the vampire attacks start happen and when the Dawnguard recruitment starts. I personally like putting a few additional levels separating these events to really give the sense of the vampires becoming a reoccurring issue in Skyrim prior to encountering the Dawnguard. -

I'm happy to help clarify, but you guys seem to have had it under control already. I didn't comment earlier because each time I checked this thread it looked like the right information had already been given. -

Complete Crafting_TrueWeaponsLvlLists.esp should be loaded after (or in place of) Weapons & Armor_TrueWeaponsLvlLists.esp. This should have no effect on the MCM. -
I may have misunderstood this, but are you saying that STEP's female body will not only be a naked female, but a mutilated naked female? Is STEP also going to have a naked male body lacking a penis and testicles? Because otherwise this option will create a major inconsistency in the game. Personally, I won't use any body replacer that doesn't have some form of undergarments. I don't have a problem with nudity in and of itself, but I find it incredibly unrealistic and immersion-breaking to loot armor from an NPC and essentially strip them naked in the process (particularly if it's only the females and not the males who are naked). "The natives" of Skyrim would have almost certainly worn undergarments, both for warmth and added protection. Even peasants in ancient and medieval times wore garments that consisted of multiple layers. Women in a great many cultures have wrapped their breasts for comfort. Undergarments are not a modern invention. The only reason I see to have a naked female body in Skyrim is for gratuitous reasons. And mutilating the body by removing the "objectionable" sexual bits is something I find incredibly offensive and actually quite disturbing. If STEP is going to have a naked female body, at least make it a biologically accurate one. However, I'd very much prefer to see STEP stand by its mandate and not vary that drastically from both biology, history, and the convention already established by the vanilla game. Could the bra and underwear not be improved in addition to the body so that it looks better and if anything could perhaps be more historically accurate?

There will be mods available for the PC version almost immediately after the game is released.

I admit that I just can't get all that excited about Fallout; it's just not my thing. However, having said that, some of the features they've built into the game look pretty awesome. The settlement construction really grabbed my attention. It looks like they took the idea behind Hearthfire, copied some of Chesko's placement mechanics, and developed it into a fully fleshed out and integrated part of Fallout. The idea of building and developing multiple settlements and establishing caravans between them sounds like it could be fun. I also like the idea of being able to break down all those random junk and clutter items into useful crafting components. All in all, I'm still not sure whether I'm going to bother playing it. I didn't see anything that makes me think it will come close to competing with Witcher 3 for my, all too limited, play time. It does look like a great game for those who are into the Fallout series.

John, not everyone likes bouncing breasts. It looks painful (as aaltair mentions), not to mention completely ridiculous and unrealistic in the context of 1) a harsh winter climate or 2) any type of combat or other demanding physical activity. If you want to put the time into supporting such things, that's your prerogative, but certainly don't expect it to be universally appealing.

I believe the version in WAF is the older one that should technically be overwritten. However, the only difference between the two versions is that one will result in a notification message in the top left corner of the screen and one won't. The one that doesn't show the notification message is the newer one. This script is only applied to a small handful of items, so even if you end up with the version that has the notification message, it isn't like the message is going to be spamming your screen every few minutes. You'll probably see it maybe once or twice in an entire play-through. -

I know I've seen more than a handful of other mods making use of Cabal's textures or using modified versions of his textures (seemingly with his permission), so he does allow others to use his textures. Obviously I can't speak for him and don't know whether he would agree or not in this case, but I wouldn't judge him too harshly for his written permissions. My own mods all have "do not use without permission from me" statements, but I don't think I've ever turned down anyone who asked me for permission to use any of my work. I just like to be asked, know where my stuff is being used, and feel like I have some say in the matter, but I'm generally happy to have people use my stuff. On the other hand, I do understand from another mod author's perspective that it can be frustrating to have to ask. I know that I generally shy away from asking permission when there is no indication that such requests are welcome (whether or not that impression is actually warranted). So I can understand both sides. I have to say that I really appreciate the openness of your permissions and want to thank you for being so generous with your work, both in sharing it and allowing others to use it.- 307 replies

CTD Randomly When in "Potion" Section of Inventory
kryptopyr replied to thunderclam's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I've not run into this problem myself, but it seems like I remember seeing something that suggested CTDs could be caused by potions that didn't have any effects. This was on a modding page somewhere that recommended always using a blank or dummy effect on potions to avoid this problem (if for whatever reason you didn't want them to have any active effects). Not sure if that's the cause of your problem or not, but if you have any mods that add potions, it might be worth looking into. -
The current month's numbers aren't represented accurately. At least for mine, in one-month view, it looks like the month of April and May are identical. I suspect that they might update the monthly view only at the end of the month (either that or they're still working out some of the kinks in the system). As far as the 'all-time' view, it looks like the stats aren't so much for the 1st of the month, as the ongoing total for the month, so May, being only half finished, is showing only about half of the downloads/endorsements of April. As May comes to a close, I would expect the numbers to climb to something closer to previous months. Looking at a few of my mods, I don't really see any trend where previous Mays have been low months, a few of them are actually slight peaks.

I think Chesko retracted that statement about Patreon, saying he misunderstood the comment. I do hope they reconsider (and I'm pretty sure it will happen eventually, for future games), but even if they do, it may be years down the road, and it would be silly for me to make any decisions based on that remote possibility. Believe me, I've tried to rationalize this in just about every way I can think of. I have a list of all the reasons I shouldn't get another job and all the possible alternatives, but if I'm honest with myself, they are all either based on rather shaking reasoning or pretty shallow. Anyway, I've probably dragged this conversation off-topic for long enough. I will say that I'm really excited with the way the alchemy mod is developing. It's going to be pretty incredible (in my humble opinion, of course). -

kryptopyr replied to statmonster's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
The thing is I absolutely LOVE modding. I don't want to give it up. But there are real life concerns that I need to address. I don't want to get into a discussion of my personal life and financial needs, but I've known for a year or so now that I really needed to consider getting a second job. However, I've been dragging my feet because 1) I really don't want to have a second job and 2) I recognize that as soon as I commit to another job, my free time (aka my modding time) will become practically non-existent. Unfortunately, what I want doesn't really change the reality of the situation and what I need to do. I won't claim that it was a perfect system, but paid mods did seem to be an answer to my prayers and could have potentially solved my dilemma completely. I was so excited when I heard they had given us that opportunity, and I'm crushed to have had it taken away. That disappointment, along with my disgust over all the accompanying hatred, has really prompted me to finally bite the bullet and face some tough decisions. Edit: as Tech says, I've given STEP access to many of my mods. I've also recently updated my permissions to open them up to general modification and updates if I ever disappear and can't be reached. -

I'd love to; I hate leaving projects unfinished, but there are too many 'little things'. I could spend several more years just wrapping everything up. I'll try my best to make sure that I leave my all mods in a solid, stable condition. And there are definitely a few features that I've had significant help from others on, and I feel I owe it to them to finish up and release those things. I'm not going to suddenly disappear one day (barring an unforeseen accident of course), but I really do need to re-adjust certain priorities in my life. -

I've never found the time to add the lunar weapons. I had someone offer to help me with them, but he seems to have disappeared. I haven't forgotten about them, but it's just not a priority at the moment. Honestly, the whole paid mods debacle has made be sit back and look at just how much of my time I spend on this hobby and consider whether I could be doing something more productive with my time. I'd love to finish up all the plans I've had for my mods, but that's a lot of work yet and probably never going to happen. I think I need to be moving on. *shrug* Sorry, I didn't mean to for my reply to be so morose, but I've lost a lot of my motivation for modding over the past week or so (though to be fair, it was starting to decline before the paid mods incident). I'm determined to get the alchemy mod released, so I'll just see how I feel after that. -

It should be fine to update. None of the script changes should cause any problems in an existing game (most of the script changes were to the MCM script). Really the only reason it's still in beta is because there are a few features that are designed specifically for compatibility with the newest versions of Frostfall and Wet & Cold, so I'm waiting for both of those to hopefully get updated. It really won't hurt anything if CCO is used without those mods or if used with the older versions, but the newly integrated cloaks won't be recognized by the older versions of those mods. -
I'm almost certainly going to include the resource textures in my cooking mod, and I may be able to do a thing or two to add some differences in their distribution... ;)

I definitely agree, and I certainly take it as more a reflection of the person commenting than having anything really to do with me. But it seems like any discussion on Nexus quickly devolves to that sort of childishness. That's not a productive environment for anyone but trolls. There has to be better. I mean STEP pretty much proves that it's possible for people, even on the internet, to be rational and respectful to one another. Edit: I'm not planning to do anything rash. I just wanted to explore what options might be available.
-
Great! I look forward to hearing your new ideas. Yeah, I completely understand about the bandwidth costs, and I suspect there would be a lot of additional management costs as well if STEP started hosting many files. With the rate that authors are currently being driven from Nexus maybe something new will crop up to fill that need. I'll take a look at the mentioned sited. I'm not very familiar with TES Alliance or ModDB and don't really know how well they're run or the ruling attitudes there. I really think that Nexus is run rather well, particularly for the size of the site and the number of users it has, but the moderators can't be everywhere at once and obviously they don't have the power to reign in the hatred that is still being directed toward some people. My other thought has been to just walk away. Leave my files up but shut down my threads and discontinue any support. However, that ends up putting the burden of support on sites like STEP, and I don't feel that's fair to you guys either.
-
Can anyone suggest any viable alternatives to Nexus for hosting mods? Respectful and open discourse on Nexus doesn't seem to be possible anymore. I'm so tired of all the hate. (Edit: removed the reference to specific insults. After consideration, I feel bad for quoting them here; no one benefits from having this stuff repeated). And, fyi, all these comments came from other mod authors (on the restricted Mod Authors forum) in response to what I felt was an attempt to respectfully, but strongly, voice my opinion over a mod author's right to control access to their own content. This isn't coming from idiot users with only one or two posts, but from other established mod authors. Now, I'm not taking these comments too personally. I'm not looking for people to reassure me that those things aren't true. I know they aren't true, and I've dealt with worse before, but honestly, why do I need to put up with this? Why am I putting up with this? I know the reason: because I want to continue to share my mods. I love making mods, and I love sharing them. I know there are a lot of people who really enjoy using my mods, and I want to keep providing my work to them. Is there any way to do this without also having to constantly subject myself to the rabid hatred and disrespect that appears to be increasingly predominant on Nexus? I don't want to go through Steam (though anymore I don't think the users there are any worse than those on Nexus) simply because I don't want to provide support for users trying to manage their mods through Steam's system. This is supposed to be something I do for fun, and I don't see anything fun about the prevailing attitudes toward modders. I truly enjoy a healthy, even heated debate, but I grew out of that type of childish name calling a long, long time ago, and I never have found it to be productive or particularly effective. If that's the only format available for discussions on Nexus, even among other mod authors, then I need to be somewhere else. I want to continue making my work available to those who have supported me, silently or otherwise, and I'm looking for any suggestions for other venues that might allow me to do continue to do this in a more productive environment.
