ACCEPTED Greatsword Sheaths and Scabbards Redux (by rpsgc, MadCat221)
TechAngel85 replied to rpsgc's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
The second one actually matches quite well. -
I'm running through the mod tables and downloading any missing mods. Nexus is having issues today. I'll run through the guide after than and some dinner. :)

Haha! You guys crack me up. My Internet was down when I arose this morning so I was forced into the real world for a bit. It scared me...so I'm back now. :D

I will clarify the DDSopt guide if you would please go into that guide and add some notes indicating anything that is unclear. To be honest, you are the only person that has indicated that it is difficult to follow ... some of the specifics no longer apply, and that has been stated. Even better, use the Talk page to provide specifics. I am quite certain that it does not need a completer rewrite, as most of the info there still applies. techangel is not the only one to indicate that the guide is difficult to follow. To be honest, even I have found it difficult to read, and there are a number of users based on their questions and ultimate user error that indicate such as well. Aside from some content that may no longer apply, I certainly believe that the presentation needs an overhaul.

SKYRIMLE SkyRealism - Balanced Perk Trees (by IndigoNeko)
TechAngel85 replied to MTichenor's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
It appears as though Balanced Magic will conflict with this mod. I'll have to compare and decide which I like best. -
Welcome to the STEP forums and thank you for that explanation. It's always great to have the authors chime in and clear things up!

SKYRIMLE SkyRealism - Balanced Perk Trees (by IndigoNeko)
TechAngel85 replied to MTichenor's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
They use the default constellation shapes. I actually was thinking yours changed the shape (position of the perk stars). I suppose as long as they fit with the default shapes they all will be well. Thanks! -
I'll go through and follow the guide, making notes as I go and report them. It'll mainly be a list of questions. When using a guide and following instructions I need specifics. I drove my teachers crazy, but it's allowed me to be a fairly good technical writer as far as instructions go.

As Techangel said, the Wiki isn't open for public editing yet since we've been working a lot on getting several key systems in place. Â Hopefully in the near future we'll be opening the Wiki for editing by anyone with a forum account (the user databases are linked). Â We're trying to keep the bandwidth down and since images take up a lot more than text we'd appreciate if you could host them elsewhere unless they're being used on a Wiki page. Â I suggest installing Dropbox (use my referral and we both get extra space :D), you'll get a Dropbox folder when you install the app and anything you drop in the Public subfolder will be uploaded and can be linked to using the "Copy public URL" command in the context menu. I see what you did there....shameless. Haha! Imgur is another good place and is what I use for posting picutes/screenshots on the forums.

If you have editing privileges, you can upload a file under the Toolbox menu. Write in the summary box what the image is used for so it's not deleted later on.

SKYRIMLE SkyRealism - Balanced Perk Trees (by IndigoNeko)
TechAngel85 replied to MTichenor's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I like it! Only two issues I can foresee. One, IMO, it may be putting some people off having to start a new game. I completely understand the reason for this though. And two, I use another mod that would obviously conflict with this one: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/7308 Though, I like what you have done here and think I would leave this mod behind for yours instead. Does this mod conflict with any of the balancing mods? Specifically, I use Balanced Magic. -
Please do! I just posted this over on another thread: https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=1263&pid=18161#pid18161 That guide needs an overhaul. I've yet to use it do to confusion and it not being very noob friendly.

I have to say I'm at a loss here. I will say that I have never used DDSopt. It can screw up your textures if not done properly and the STEP guide is profoundly inefficiently wrote for complete noobs. I'm a IT guy and I'm sure that I could figure it out, but the guide confuses me in several places so I haven't touched it. It's been stated many times and in different threads that the guide needs a overhaul, but no one that is proficient with DDSopt has yet to take it on. Upon thinking a little, if it mainly happens with you uninstall a mod it could be that WB is uninstalling those textures and not replacing them with textures higher in the load order...assuming they are conflicting textures.
-
WB doesn't delete anything you don't tell it to. If you're somehow loading your vanilla bsa files in WB, don't! WB shouldn't have anything to do with them. Make sure no mod files are named with the same file names as the vanilla bsa files. Where possible DO NOT use the bsa versions of any mods; use loose file versions. Finally, make sure your mods are set up properly for WB use. If the file structure of the mods are not correct they won't install properly. I convert ALL my mod file structures to the WB simple file structure. Make sure any optionals are checked to install in the lower right box. I recommend you completely read through our Wiki Guide and the Official ReadMe before deciding to switch back to NMM.

SKYRIMLE Immersive Content - Exterior Lighting Enhancement
TechAngel85 replied to TheCompiler's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
This isn't as extensive as LoS. Light are only placed where there are people present: merchants, patrols, etc. LoS places them throughout all of Skyrim's roads. Though, this one is scripted so the fires don't burn during the day. -
Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]
TechAngel85 replied to Nirodha's question in General Skyrim LE Support
:D You're welcome and glad you got it worked out. When something like this happens it's usually because of a deviation from the tested STEP process, like in your case a different version of the map from the STEP recommendations, or it's a conflict with a personal non-STEP mod. Though, in this case it's understandable. Quality World Map has 7 optional files 3 of which have "All Roads" tacked onto the name. The STEP instructions weren't that clear. For future reference, any mod that says it's a "work in progress" (WIP) use with caution because as you found out...could have bugs. I'm going to contact the mod author and point him to this forum to help him out on his bug testing. -
Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]
TechAngel85 replied to Nirodha's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Not exactly, no. Unfortunately, troubleshoot is a process. Most of these are going to be located in "Data\Textures\architecture". Possibly Whiterun textures. Obviously stone/mountain textures. "Data\Textures\landscape\mountains". This could be a mod conflict too. Distant Detail could be one culprit. First run BOSS to make sure your load order is correct and recheck the issue. If it's still there... disable all your esp files except those that are STEP specific and see if the issue remains. If you don't have extra mods installed disable all your esp files. Check if the issue is there. If it's fixed, re-enable your esp files one by one and check the issue each time. When it reappears, you'll know which mods is the culprit. -
My mistake, I thought it was yours... What I get for not reading everything. Upon a second look, I too prefer vanilla over most. Many of the textures even look "noisy". I also never understood the glass armor and weapons. It's glass...it should shatter when connecting with steel or any other weapon or armor for that matter...maybe not fur, leather or hide armor. Must have had some strong glass in Skyrim!

Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]
TechAngel85 replied to Nirodha's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I don't have this issue with a complete STEP, but purple is a missing texture issue. You may have to go back and reinstall your texture mods. If you used TPC, be sure you included all the required mods and check out your log file to see if you're missing any textures from there. (SRO is no longer available and the majority of textures from TPC were SRO so you'll have to skip it but it won't cause those issues) Start by reinstalling your LODs though. Also, if you're using WB you can check for any conflicts or missing textures there. -
No offense, but I actually prefer the vanilla textures here. There is too much "crackle" (to make them look worn?) on the metal and I prefer the wood looking handles over your rendition. I can't tell what the handle are made of from this texture. These is just my interpretations and it doesn't fit into the lore of Skyrim but... any book I've ever read or movie I've ever seen influences my thoughts here. I don't see elven weapons as things that deteriorate and ware with use. All I've ever read and seen of elven weaponry is items of the highest quality which never ware and are of exquisite beauty. This is also why I have personal mods to make the elven race much more refined and beautiful in-game.

Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]
TechAngel85 replied to Nirodha's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I take it those textures are present at closer ranges? -
My point is that I would like to see the player-conferred magic enhancements also being available to NPCs. That is ASIS' primary perk ... So the question is: Does ASIS propagate Balanced Magic 'perks' to qualifying NPCs? Sounds like a good question for a mod tester, :D though it might be kind of hard to measure. Having a NPC (spellcaster) deal you some damage before and after ASIS/Balanced Magic Patch and attempt to discern if they are deadlier or not...that's the only test I can think of, but even then it's not a great way to measure if the changes were applied to the NPCs. I don't use ASIS and had never even heard of it till today. I'm currently nose deep into creating a batch file or I'd give it a try.
