Need help/suggestions on S.T.E.P. configuration
TechAngel85 replied to MasterKeef's question in Post-Processing Support
This VideoMemorySizeMb=[Total Available Video Memory] - [170] is wrong. You need to put an actual value there. To figure this out, use the ENB Guide: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory#VideoMemorySizeMb There's also a video here that shows you how. -
Yes...you basically get what you pay for. You want a quality motherboard from a reputable manufacturer that can handle components at least one step up from what you plan on putting in it. If your motherboard isn't of good quality your entire system can suffer and you'll be in endless troubleshooting trying to figure out why you're not getting the performance that you expected. You'll eventually figure out it's your motherboard holding your system back. ASUS is currently my top recommendation. I'm not saying go and spend $300 on a board. There comes a point where you'll be simply paying for extra features that you'll never use. For example I have the Asus Z87 Plus. It's a good quality board that has all the bells and whistles that I need, but it didn't break the bank either. You can get the Pro version for around $125 right now. This board isn't the latest generation (Z97), but it'll do anything you need it to do. If you wanted the latest generation, it'll cost anywhere from $25 to $60 more. Of course this is all for ASUS. There are other brands that have quality options such as Gigabyte and MSI. Think of the motherboard as the frame of a car. With a sub-par frame, you'll be limited with the power that the engine can output before things start becoming unstable. With a quality frame to build upon, the sky is the limit...you could turbo charge your engine, put in an aftermarket transmission to get better track times, etc etc.

Don't skimp on the motherboard. If this is strictly for gaming, you don't need more than 4 cores so a current generation i5 is all you need.

ACCEPTED Relighting Skyrim (by NovakDalton and JawZ)
TechAngel85 replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Yes, when I'm voting I'm specifically voting for RS + ELE-Lite Interior Lighting module (found on the ELE-Lite mod page). -

When testing, I should probably disable Lanterns of Skyrim. I have it set to only be present around cities, but the lantern in that first image I posted could be from that mod. A RS/LoS patch might be worth looking into if that is the case. I shall disable it for future testing to prevent any false reports stemming from LoS and would encourage others to do the same if testing as I am. -

TechAngel85 replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
No problem, JawZ. I'm wanting to check out a lot more locations and report anything strange or off that I see since it's really the only way I can help improve RS. On the subject of accepting Relighting Skyrim for STEP, I see absolutely no reason not to. There might be a few odd lights here and there, but those can be reported and fixed along the way. This community is very good about doing those things anyway to help improve mods. The fixes and quality RS brings to Skyrim far outweighs any negatives, imo. I'm going to vote a resounding Yes for this to be included for Core as the lighting fix for STEP. -

ACCEPTED Relighting Skyrim (by NovakDalton and JawZ)
TechAngel85 replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
JawZ, I've been running around checking various locations in the Rift area and have come across a few potential issues: Snow-shod Farm Here the lighting from the lantern seems to be too much. It's lighting areas of the building that shouldn't be let and just generally overpowered, imo. There's also light coming from the window when the only light source is that one lantern. The lantern on the building in this location seems a bit overpowered as well. Lost Tongue Overlook The candles here do not seem to be casting any light on the table. Darklight Tower The lighting from the fireplace here appears to be bugged as it's casting light on the ceiling when it shouldn't be. Angarvunde The lighting from the candles seem overpowered...as do most of the candle lighting in this location. These issues are far very few in number as I visited many many locations and these are all I spotted so far. I really, really like what Relighting Skyrim does for the lighting as it feel far more natural in the game and helps to create more immersion, imo. For these test runs I have STEP:Extended installed with Relighting Skyrim, Relighting Skyrim DLC, and ELE-Lite Interior Lighting. -
The Dev Guide has been frozen for a bit until the dust completely settles. Once the dust is clear, we'll begin making any changes that we need to.

Which is why I haven't suggested it, but rather sent Ramccoid a message instead. The STEP community is very different than that of the Nexus and we won't even mention Steam. We don't behave like spoiled children here so I'm hoping Ramccoid will see there is a brighter side and leave that nonsense on Nexus and Steam be. I think this is one of the reasons we have several authors that frequent our forums. We're the mature side of the community here and it would be nice to have more of these type of members. I'm not saying that we haven't had some of those general Nexus types around here before, but they tend to run off pretty quickly when they realize our moderation team doesn't put up with their nonsense.

When you are running Wrye Bash to make your Bashed Patch you can add these tags on the mods. It's located in the bottom right corner. You'll see the Bash Tags listed. To add or substract tags, simply right click in the pane and select or deselect the tag you need.

Will my Laptop be able to run STEP?
TechAngel85 replied to Dreicard's question in General Skyrim LE Support
You shouldn't have any issues and you can probably run an ENB that is somewhere between light and medium hit on performance. -
I installed MO outside of the skyrim folder- is this a big deal?
TechAngel85 replied to Toosdey's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yeah, I'd take it out of the Program Files. Skyrim shouldn't be installed there either. -
Yes, skip it for now.

wanted Donate Button/Link for Mods in MO?
TechAngel85 replied to z929669's question in Mod Organizer Support
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is that those donate buttons have nothing to do with Nexus beside presenting the image on the page. Once you click on the donate link, you're taken to a donation page for that author. From there you click the donate button which is 100% Paypal. I think at most, Tannin might be able to provide this feature which would simply open a page to the author's Nexus donation page since this is a predicable link ( NexusWebUrlHere/GameHere/users/donate/?id=UserIDHere ). If you want it to take you directly to Paypal to donate, then MO would somehow have to scrape the Paypal code from the author's donation page which looks like this: <form method="post" action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" name="_xclick"> <input type="hidden" value="_xclick" name="cmd"></input> <input type="hidden" value="UserEmailHere" name="business"></input> <input type="hidden" value="Donation to UserNameHere" name="item_name"></input> <input type="hidden" value="USD" name="currency_code"></input> <input type="image" border="0" alt="Donate to UserNameHere" name="submit" src="http://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donate_LG.gif" style="width: 92px; height: 26px;"></input> </form>Clicking the button takes you to an encrypted web address so the address is different every time. I could be wrong, but don't think this is possible. So at most, the feature could take you to the author's page to donate from there. I seriously doubt you could donate directly from MO unless Paypal has some sort of API that Tannin can use can write directly into the program so that a donation window pops up or something. However, that would lead to having to encrypt data directly in MO for payments so that your payment info isn't sent insecurely. -
The Ruffled Feather - Mod Order?
TechAngel85 replied to Cameron9428's question in General Skyrim LE Support
It's intended. If you're following the dev guide then just install it where it's located in the Guide using the STEP option in the installer. -
wanted Donate Button/Link for Mods in MO?
TechAngel85 replied to z929669's question in Mod Organizer Support
I doubt it is in the API. Robin has said they don't ever touch donations. I doubt this is possible. -
Always nice to convert "lurkers" to "members"! haha! Glad to have you around and thanks for the kind words!

Paid mods are now available on the workshop
TechAngel85 replied to CJ2311's topic in Step Banter Inn
A little late to the party. Actually, I was speaking of the good side of the community. Not the ones promoting hate. If that's all you've seen since this...for lack of a better word...endeavor, then I'm sorry. But there was a lot of the good side of the community speaking up and taking part in what they felt was right from their views. -
