Upscaled or not, it still looks better. Probably half the textures mods available in the community are upscale versions of vanilla with details added and those types of mods are not new to STEP. This alone would not keep it from being in STEP. The base has to come from somewhere. As long as it looks better than vanilla.

I've tested this out... Splash of Rain: I tested in an area where I was getting a solid 60FPS to determine whether or not this was actually causing any drops in performance and then I tested in a town to see if the added weight made a difference. I tested with clear weather (81a) vs rain storm (c8220). The mod didn't affect performance any in the area I tested with solid performance. Framerate didn't change at all. I turned off the Performance option and I lost 1 FPS from time to time. Inside a town, I noticed perhaps a 2-3 FPS drop while it was raining. This was the same for the standalone mod as well so there's no difference between the standalone vs Wonders of Weather. On a side note, anyone that has performance issues or doesn't like the effect of Splash of Rain can simply turn it off in the MCM menu, if they so choose...problem solved. Shooting Stars: I "fast forwarded" time to one of the dates for shooting stars and stared at the sky for half the night. I didn't notice any issues. The shooting stars looked nice. Looking at the files, I see no difference just from the folders. Voting for this to be included in this next release. I see no issues here and it optimizes the Guide a bit.

I agree about the skin. They're creatures that live underground with very little clothing. I'd imagine their skin would be rough and tough similar to leather to help protect them from their environments.

I'm only considering the clean normal version to keep it vanilla style and more in line with the Mandate. It would be an automatic "no" vote from me if the other version were attempted to be added.
-
Perhaps we all need to up the sharpness on our monitors? Haha! All in good fun! @SRB, did you use the 1K version?
-
No, the opposite which is what I read. Altering a mesh from another mod to point to vanilla folders. This was before coffee this morning...I should stop doing that.
-
Yeah, it's all sorts of awful and you'd think that the landscape overhauls would fix this to make it match the landscapes; however, it's not technically a landscape texture since it's not in the landscape folder. I don't even know the name of that texture or I'd try to kill it with vengeful anger without remorse!

I seem to have noticed a reoccurring theme in your posts on testing threads. Most mods we end up testing seem to be "upscaled vanilla textures" to you. There's no possible way you can get some of the detail from Kajuan's mods simply from upscaling the vanilla texture. We'd have to get permissions to do that.
-
Oh! That makes sense now. Yeah, that texture is really bad and I was going to send in a request to the author of Skyrim HD to fix it in his next release.
-
Only two of these files are covered by BoS which seem to be the falmers included in the base game. BoS doesn't include the DLC content. This is enlightening because it means we have mismatched looking falmers in STEP. That alone makes me what to take a closer look at this since it covers all content.
-
My lord your ground looks terrible! That can't be STEP. I'll try to take some compares later too. I think there are a few of these laying around in my save. lol!
-
Nope, this texture is currently not covered by any mod in STEP.

Quick Reflexes Perk - Eternal slow motion
TechAngel85 replied to AedanValu's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Never had this perk so I've never seen this before. You really should report it to the USKP team so they can at least look into fixing it. They can't fix what they don't know about. -
Marked for Testing.

Well, I actually figured this out by watching Hodilton's compare video where you can see this actually happening. ...yeah, yeah...YouTube's re-compression, but seeing the same in your shots led me to this conclusion. Gamwich's are just a better retexture, imo. I'll have to find it and add it like I did for Kajuan's mods.

Discussion thread: DRAUGR by Kajuan Wiki Link Retexture of the draugrs. AMB does not cover armor (surprisingly) nor hair. DRAUGR covers both for both male and females; thus, is a complete replacer.

Figured out what is making this look blurry. It's the small bumpy texture he added to the body. From up close it looks fantastic; however, add barely any distance and it just makes the bone look blurry. Regardless of the outcome of this, we need to drop Better Bones. Gamwich made one for the dragon bones that we need to check out.
-
Haha! Better monitor, perhaps? I can see very fine detail on my monitor so blurred textures are rather easy to spot. I'm rather impressed with it sometimes.
-
I fixed your compares. You sure you have these in the right spots because vanilla is looking the best to me. Kajuan's looks blurry in this case, but I mostly love his other retextures which I need to get added to the forum for testing as I mentioned I would in the VIP Chat thread.

STEP v2.2.9.1 Official Bug Reports
TechAngel85 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
We do not use BDS in STEP anymore; however, SMIM still has the BDS shader file which is a mesh. There's very little that can be done about it. -
2k textures vs monitor resolution
TechAngel85 replied to edynacio's question in General Skyrim LE Support
It honestly depends whether or not the textures are optimized properly. With properly optimized textures without a lot of fine detail, you can't really tell much of a difference, imo. I run a few 2K textures on my 1080 monitor, but mostly 1K because the difference isn't noticeable most of the time and I'd rather save the VRAM.
