I sadly to not have a clean save from after the cart ride. Do I absolutely need it for Live Another Life? -
Low FPS, wailing carts and CTD after installing STEP
Halde posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hi all! So I just finished installing STEP, and some mods of my choice. I installed all the mods in STEP 2.2.9(I used this over 2.2.8 mainly due to the two mods, Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade and Better Shaped Weapons), except a few of the sound mods and a few of the gameplay mods. Anywho, as the headline says, thos are my problems. They all happen in the intro sequence cart ride. I have about 5-9 FPS, the physics are a bit wrong(they are not completly upside down or jumping around, but now and again, they turn sideways or starts bumpling), and I CTD just after the "Son of Skyrim", whose name I can't remember, says "those damn elfs" or something like that. I CTD'ed at that point all 3 times I rebooted. I have gone through the STEP fixes. I have reset, and re-tweaked the .ini's. I have re-bashed the Bashed Patch. I have also repatched Skyproc. I have cleaned all mods that needed cleaning(Except Guard Dialogue Overhaul and the Unofficial Patches). I have optimized both Vanilla, DLC, HiRes DLC and mods textures using DDSopt(this is not in an attempt to fix, I did this before). I have checked the mod order and such loading up TES5Edit, with no problems. My computer specs are i7-4702MQ 2.2GHz 3.2GHz overclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760m 2GB VRAM 8GB DDR3 RAM(7.66GB useable RAM) I play at 1920x1080 resolution, since that is the standard resolution for my computer. I don't feel like this is an issue with my computer not being able to handle the game or mods though. I have had STEP installed before(though with Skyrim HD, not Skyrim Realistic Overhaul), with virtually no problems(this was version 2.2.7, in October last year). I did not extract .bsa files when I installed the mods through Mod Organizer. I am using both ENBoost(using the Optimus Fix, since I am on laptop), and Sheson Memory Patch is activated in SKSE.ini, using the alpha version of SKSE. I don't think this is an issue though. And I am not using an ENB preset. I can honestly say, even though I am somewhat of a newbie modder, that I have no idea what is causing this. I have attached a couple of files, if review of them is needed in an attempt to diagnose this. I should say, that I have 10 plugins unrecognized by BOSS, all of which I have not manually locked in load order. I simply have no idea where I should put them. ~Sincerely Halde modlist.txt plugins.txt loadorder.txt -
I miss so much... So sad. Thank you very much!

Hi all! This is fairly simple. In the DDSopt quickguide, Skyrim HD is mentioned, and not Skyrim Realistic Overhaul. Is this because one shouldn't optimize Skyrim Realistic Overhaul, or because the guide has not been updated for 2.2.8/2.2.9? Should I optimize it? ~Sincerely Halde

Hi all! So I actually googled this first, as I imagine it might have been a recurring problem, but I wasen't able to find anything specific. The Improved Closefaced Helmets Legendary.esp is, according to the Skyproc Patcher missing, and it is needed for the Bashed Patch. But my Bashed Patch clearly state in the plugin as an enabled master(esp). I tried rebuilding the Bashed Patch, although that certainly didn't help. When I did the Bashed Patch, the .esp in question was locked at priority 61, because it is unrecognized by BOSS and STEP instructs it should be above the Visual Explosive Bolt mod. Bashed Patch is No. 140 in the plugin priority. I attached my pluginlist from ModOrganizer/profiles/STEP customized/ in case you need to review it. I hope you can help me with this, as I can't really move on. I should note; I have been installing STEP according to 2.2.9, which is under development. I have basically installed all the mods(except for a few gameplay and sound mods), according to the order of 2.2.9. This means that my Bashed Patch is made before Dual Sheath Redux Skyproc Patch(but I tried rebuilding the patch with Dual Sheath Redux installed(but not Skyproc Patched), but to no avail). When attempted to Skyproc Patch however, it did create the Dual Sheath Redux Patch.esp + files in the Overwrite mod of Mod Organizer. ~Sincerely Halde plugins.txt

General performance with my somewhat decent laptop.
Halde posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hi all! So I'm playing Skyrim on a laptop. Which, admittidly, sucks. But I have(had, currently reinstalling STEP due to my computer deleting everything) problems with ILS ingame. My computer specs are: CPU: i7-4702MQ 2.2GHz overclocking at 3.2GHz 8GB DDR 3 RAM GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760m 2GB VRAM I installed basically all the STEP mods(2.2.8), except for some of the gameplay and audio mods, and then some mods outside of STEP. Like 20 mods that wasen't STEP mods. But I feel like I should be able to pull STEP off. In many of the STEP guidelines to the texture mods, it generally only raises concerns when the GPU are below or at 1GB VRAM. Generally, I would ILS if I loaded a game, in which, I was outside of in the Skyrim world. I could then walk out from wherever I was and into the Skyrim world, and then load the most recent game(if the most recent game was infact in the outside world of Skyrim). I should note I was NOT using Skyrim Flora Overhaul or Skyrim Realistic Overhaul, but I was using the 2k version of Skyrim HD. How can this be:/? -
Does reinstallation of mod in Mod Organizer overwrite?

Does reinstallation of mod in Mod Organizer overwrite?
Halde posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hi all! So because I'm doing everything in ways that makes sense to me, but might not make sense to others, I have installed my texture mods before optimizing them using DDSopt. My plan was to optimize them after I've installed STEP, then reinstall them. But will they overwrite other mods, or will they abide to their order in the left list in Mod Organizer(since they are replaced, they will be installed directly into the priority as the unoptimized mod they replace)? ~Sincerely Halde -
Hi all! https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28428/? This is a mod that I think is great! It changes the casting animation while wielding and using magic, and it changes the idle animation while wielding magic, and the running animation as well. The vanilla casting animation does not feel mage like. It feels like a neanderthal that discovered fire(Litteraly, the stance of magic casting, is neanderthalic). This mod makes the stance very majestic, as a mage more or less should be. The running animation is in my opinion brilliant as well. Sadly I can't produce any screenshot, and the screenshot on the mod page are quite bad. Whether or not this is by any means STEP material, I don't know. I know that STEP uses the Dagger on Hip, so I don't think it's too far of a stretch. ~Sincerely Halde

Hi all! So for some reason I did not until earlier today, know that a 2.2.9 STEP guide has been made(read: under development). So to keep this short, can I "safely" use the 2.2.9? Because there is some changes in the installation order(noteable the Unofficial Patches), and furthermore the Better Shaped Weapon mod, which I fancy and have previously installed after STEP. I just don't wanna "waste" time installing the 2.2.8(my HDD got wiped clean, thus I have to reinstall), if 2.2.9 is useable(/soon to be released), and even include detailed installation of a mod I otherwise just throw a top after STEP. ~Sincerely Halde

Sorry for necroing this, but I kinda need to be sure, before I dive in, and possibly waste hours. 1st: Should I extract all .bsa to Loose Files with Mod Organizer, except for the Unofficial Patches? 2nd: Should I optimize textures from the unofficial patches? I don't recall this being a part of the STEP guide for important mod textures. 3rd: I read that Loose Files "is much easier to handle/gives more control". How is this? Since both load and hard drive space seems to be affected by Loose Files, yet I fail to see what is gained? I have never needed to go balls deep into the files of my mods. It's a bit vague to me what I gain my extracting the .bsa's. The actual only thing I know Loose Files to do, is that they will be loaded over the .bsa. ~Sincerely Halde

A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Oh... I feel all silly now. I kinda wish it wasn't above 100k files I had to delete... Damn that takes a long time.. -
First off, cudos on learning such relative good English from movies and video games. Self-education FTW. Now, your computer is very low end. Remember to activate/use the two memory patches(ENBoost and Skyrim Memory Patch 3.0(the first patch is automatic)). You should also accept the default preset of settings that the Skyrim Launcher set for you, unless it's higher than what you are currently using. You cannot use mods such as Skyrim Flora Overhaul, or Skyrim Realistic Overhaul. They take too high a toll FPS. I would have a hard time to say which mods you can/can't use. My old computer was something alike yours, and I played Skyrim with 15-30 FPS, which was hell. I didn't have any texture mods installed at all. Also I wasen't aware that SkyRe adds textures. I thought it was a gameplay overhaul. Anyway, with your computer, you are gonna have a hard time playing the game with mods. ~Sincerely Halde

A little problem with a specfic ENB and ENBoost(laptop)
Halde posted a question in Post-Processing Support
Hi all! So I don't have the greatest computer ever. Running i7-4702MQ 2.2GHz, GTX 760m 2GB VRAM and 8GB RAM. But I found an ENB, that I assume I can pull off, called "I Can't Believe Its Not an ENB". I found a liking to the screenshots. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48554/? Anywho, for this mod to work with ENBoost, one need to install ENBoost as one normally would, but with renaming the d3d9.dll and changing a thing or two in the enblocal.ini. While this is all fine, my problem is, that when running a laptop, I need to use the Optimus fix in order to run Wrapper version of ENB. So I now have 3 different d3d9.dll in my Skyrim folder. One of them(ENBoost) is called d3d9_sweetfx.dll, another(the ENB preset) is called d3d9orig.dll and Optimus is the actual d3d9.dll. I'm not sure which part it is, but my game cannot detect the ENB. The "info" box in the upper left corner of the game, doesn't appear. Can someone help explain and possibly solve this? Perhaps I need to use the Injector(which I have used before) as ENBoost? I'm on very uncertain ground. ~Sincerely Halde -
A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
No I have them as Loose Files. In the guide, it is stated that Mod Organizer users can just add them as Loose Files, to skip the lengthy step of making archiving them. Well, my STD folder certainly doesn't look like that. Here is a written version of the structure: -STD -grass -interface -lodsettings -meshes -music -scripts -shadersfx -sound -strings -textures in the "texture" folder, it seems to more or less match the folder you screenshottet @Kelmych, except that mine is organized alphabetically, when viewed with Windows Explorer. If I use a program like TreeSize, it is layed out like in the screenshot. -
A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Well, you may be right. But when I turn even 1 of them on in the left list in Mod Organizer, the error reappears(I have only tried with the "mod" called "STD" which is the Vanilla textures, and not with any of he DLC's). Another option I suppose, is that it is an error with Mod Organizer. Or an error with SkyUI. Perhaps it depends in some way that the Vanilla and DLC textures are .bsa, and not Loose Files? I have absolutely no idea, as my technical knowledge on this is minimal. -
A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ok it is in the affirmative. The DDSopt optimized Loose Files of the Vanilla(I don't about the DLc or HiRes DLC, but I imagine that it will have the same effect) textures is the cause of my Papyrus error. I have no idea how or why, but I suppose that's something an experienced modder might now. The MCM menu is back on, although I don't know if the delay on menus is gone, but I can only assume that that as gone away as well. Since I removed the files from the Working folder(referering to the DDSopt quickstart guide) I don't think I can compress them in a switch swoop. Maybe I will try to reoptimize the whole thing, and then compress them, to see if they then won't cause me this error. -
MO wiped modlist.txt during STEP core install
Halde replied to FalloutPrime's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I can see I might have jumped to conclusions. Sorry for that. Also, when I said whine, I didn't mean in it as "you are a crybaby", I meant it as a synonym for complaint, although I am aware of the negative connotations the word carries. Most of it was based on the, what I found to be, an over-the-line comment that STEP causes more frustration than actual help, and that it might have been made to annoy the Skyrim community(I am no stranger to sarcasm, but the rest of the post kinda follows the same pattern). But you are right, I probably didn't think my later comments all the way through(I wrote them in a bit of a haze as well, like 4am in the morning). So to sum up, sorry for the deragatory comment on you, but I still feel it hold some validity(and again, I didn't mean "whine" as you being a crybaby:) ) -

MO wiped modlist.txt during STEP core install
Halde replied to FalloutPrime's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Odd, this has never happend to me. I actually can't remember if this works, but if you go into ModOrganizer/mods you see your all your mods. You might be able to change the date on which these folders was last changed, so that the oldest folder(the first installed folder, and the thusly, the first installed mod) is at the top of the list of mods. This might change the left list of mods in Mod Organizer. Don't hold me to my word though, as I have never actually tried this. But I can imagine it might work. As for the rant about how frustrating STEP and Mod Organizer, I personally find it completly uncalled for. This is a completly optional guide, to help enhance the Vanilla game. As far as I know, It has been done voluntarily by the people who made it(as in, they didn't recieve money)(most notably "The Compiler" and "Tannin" I think). While Mod Organizer certainly is a more complicated Mod Manager, than say, NMM, it provide the user with a far more stable and more configurable playing experience. STEP is an amazing compiliation and configuration of mods, and a guide on how best to utilize those mods. Spending two thirds of a post on bad critique, might not be a way to show appreciation of this complete piece of work(assuming you appreciate the work being done). While it's all fine you are feeling frustrated(and understandable), I find that this is not the place to let loose and whine about a one-in-a-million-error, as if the creators and founders of this site has it in for you, personally. You should create a blog, and write about your anger towards optional Skyrim advice there. ~Sincerely Halde -
A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Apparently. Again, I didn't keep the game open for long, but before I disabled the optimized textures, I got the error instantly, when the loading screen appeared. Now it didn't come at all(like 30 seconds into the intro cart sequence). Although I forgot to mention the following. I did have the so called "fixes" in the Skyrim.ini files for this error written in. But, I also launched the game with the .ini fixes and with the optimized textures, and got the error. But then when I switched the optimized textures off, still with the .ini fixes written in, the error disappeared. I will try to let the game roll past character creation tomorrow and report back, to see if the error will in fact appear(at least at that point). -
A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I MIGHT HAVE SOLVED IT OMG OMG OMG. I deeply apologize for that childish outrage of happiness. I don't know if this is gonna sound odd or not. It seems, that it is the DDSopt optimized Vanilla, DLC(DG-HF-DB) and HiRes DLC textures, that has caused this problem. Just now, I turned them off, and I didn't get the error(well at least not right away, I closed the game shortly after it loaded, and the error usually pops up right after the loading screen appears). To give some detail about my optimized files. I've optimized them EXACTLY as STEP guides one to do it. Since I use Mod Organizer, I did not re-archive them, I just threw them into the mods folder as Loose Files. That's pretty much it. I have no idea why(my deep technical knowledge is basically non-existant when it comes to computing), but for some reason, these textures messed up my SkyUI, and gave me the error 4, the dreaded .ini Papyrus error. This can officially be marked as resolved. I will however, ask anyone if they know why this is. Furthermore, I would really like to use these optimized textures(although I will pick SkyUI over them), so if anyone can come up with any reason as to why these two "mods" interact this way with eachother, please reply to this. All input is appreciated! ~Sincerely Halde -
A couple of (more or less)game breaking problems with SkyUI!
Halde replied to Halde's question in General Skyrim LE Support
So removed all my mods, reinstalled Skyrim, deleted the entire "skyrim" folder in Documents/my games, deleted the entire "mods" folder in ModOrganizer, only to create a new. Then after I had redownloaded and reinstalled Skyrim, I reinstalled SKSE into the common/Skyrim folder. I then started installing the mods according to STEP(skipped a few). When I got to SkyUI, I launched the game, and tried making a new game. The very first thing that happens after I press "New" in the Skyrim menu, is that I get the Papyrus error. So I have only about 30 mods installed(all the mods under "Fixes"(except Guard Dialogue Overhaul)) and more than half of the mods under "Interface" upto SkyUI. I had also installed the version 121212 of ENB(Injector version). I didn't launch this when I launched Skyrim(due to not having a preset). I also had the optimized version of the Vanilla textures installed(DDSopt optimized). What the heck is going on with this mod? It has worked in the past...
