Star Citizen in a must watch 13 minute nutshell
rootsrat replied to redirishlord's topic in General Game Discussion
If you're into space sims - Elite is the way to go at the moment - IMHO. I'm biased, because Elite series was always top of my Best Game Ever personal list, but nevertheless, it is a damn great game (whilst still WIP - it's a 10 year plan in total). It features realistic Milky Way galaxy created using PG software that simulated the Big Bang and created the galaxy from scratch, with such details as chemical composition of planets etc. Very scientific! There are 400 000 000 000 (sic!) star systems to visit, all the ones we know of, including the recently discovered planets, are actually in the game. Of course there is a human populated bubble with all the space politics, economy, conflicts etc. Currently you can land on planets/bodies with no atmosphere, but atmospheric landings will be added in a future expansion, as well as first person perspective module (both confirmed). It's got incredibly rich lore. And it's a total sandbox. I mean there is a storyline going on in the background, but you don't have to get involved. I would call it a simulator of life in space in 34th Century. Any questions, let me know - I'm heavily involved and always happy to help. -
Ah! Thank you Dreadflopp! I've never noticed it :) It's really been a while...

Yeah, looking forward to that, definitely! I got hooked on X: Rebirth recently. I didn't intend to buy it after all the bad reviews it's received after the release, but a friend of mine told me about all the patching and bugfixing they did since then and I gave it a go. It's nearly as good as the previous ones, apart from having only 1 ship to fly - the rest is there. Plus it has mod support via NMM now. Give it a go if you're after a good space game (I'm not saying "sim" on purpose :) ). Do you actually play Elite? -
Nobody? :( It looks like this:

You don't need to defend it mate, I fully realise what SC is :) I really wish them success, but I'm just hesitant when it comes to the usual hype around it, as - and this is just my experience and by no means I'm referring to your good self - most of the SC fans take even slight criticism as an attack on their beloved game, which isn't really a game yet, it's rather a 50 GB worth of a demo. I really hope to play a full version of it one day! Really glad to read about the joystick support though! Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk -

Yup, same workaround here - forgot to add it to my post. Just drop the difficulty, wait for the scene to finish and set it back to what it was. -

I did almost the full storyline back in a day with this mod and it worked very well. Made the Companions questline rewarding and interesting. Didn't notice any bugs and I was using the full version (required a lot of patches though!). The only issue I've had with it is that the initial scene when the 2 members brawl with each other laster forever - but that was because of another mod that raised the difficulty by giving more HP to various creatures, so the 2 guys never could beat each other to the point one surrendered. Hope it makes sense :) I'd defo recommend it and I agree that requirements only would be better for STEP (although the full version is more interesting for sure). -

It's just clumsy animations and controlling the characters, clipping issues... I just can't enjoy that stuff. that's why I decided to wait for a more fleshed out version. Not sure how is the joystick support nowadays - it used to be horrible (as in pretty much non-existent) and I didn't even try it last time I played it. As for ED - no, it doesn't allow for first person gameplay - YET. Multi Crew patch is coming out later this year, this will allow for actual character creation and coop play of up to 4 players in the same ship. A full FPP expansion is coming later on as a separate Season, and this will allow for walking around the ships, stations etc. Both games have different development approach - SC does a few things, but very detailed, while ED implements broad features (thanks to that it's already an actual game) and then polishes them out in due course. For the record - I think comparing the 2 is pointless, as both have different aims and the only common thing is that they're both space games. You don't want to know :D OK, last time I installed it, it was 30 or 40 GB worth of data... A bit ridiculous if you ask me, for what you get in it. -
What would you think of a Discord server for STEP? For those who don't know - Discord is an application for text and voice communication. Kind of like a fusion of IRC and Team Speak. Or an alternative for Skype, but specifically for gamers. It can be run in a browser or as a desktop app. Servers can have multiple text channels (rooms) and voice channels. It's very easy in use and you can customise it to your liking as an admin, including creating group-based access to various channels etc. Not sure how useful it would be, but I guess it would be a good thing for a quick chat and quick help on-the-go. https://discordapp.com

I tried to find an answer on the forums but to no avail... Also, I guess it's not 100% STEP specific, as it can be seen in the general context, but nevertheless I came across this when installing aMidianBorn Book of Silence as part of STEP installation. Note I haven't been using MO for at least a year or so... I noticed that when I install a few different mods from the same page MO now groups them under a single entry and sticks that into Overwrite section in the left pane. Is there a way to switch this off and have the mods separate again?

I tried the new version but gave up after an hour. Just meh. I'm not playing it until it's at least in Beta... And to be honest I'm still not sure whether they'll be able to pull it off, i.e. release the actual game. I wish them all the best, if it works it's going to be a great game, but until then I'll just stick to Elite Dangerous :) -
Great news about proper mod support. The previous game was a real pain when it came to mods. Last year at Lavecon, I've had an honour of meeting in person Julian Gollop, the creator of the original X-COM. It was fun watching him play a custom fan made board version of X-Com game. Sadly there were no more places at the table :( He's recently released a cool litle game called Chaos Reborn - a digital version of one of his early board games called Chaos. Check it out if you like fantasy themed, turned based tactical battle game with deck of cards twist. It's a little gem that not many people know about. Anyway, X-Com 2 preordered a few days ago, can't wait for the release!

Hey there. No problem, Neo :) Sorry, I should have posted an update. I am waiting for all the expansions to come out before updating the guide. Also, I don't currently have the time to keep everything up to date, sadly. Feel free to use Neo's guide - it's a great one too!
-
SO. MUCH. FUN! Ditto, if someone wants to team up, hit me up, same nickname on Origin as on the forums here and I'm in the GMT time zone. We definitely need to repeat that, Neo :) I don't play daily, but I'm on fairly often.

Right, I fell for it and bought the full game. And... just wow, I don't regret it one bit! I'm not a big fan of online shooters (mostly because I'm not that good with them), but this is SO MUCH FUN! It's fast, intense, approachable and it's Star Wars. Amazing game, despite the complete lack of story whatsoever. If couple of months ago you'd told me I will write this about a pure online shooter, I'd just laugh at you. Today, I'm surprised at myself. What a game!

You can downgrade your game in GOG Galaxy to 1.10. If you don't use that, I'd just ditch the incompatible mods. I don't know when I'll get enough time to update the guide to 1.11 to be honest, just busy with another project at the moment.
-
Hey there, I marked it as required to avoid potential branching of the guide for people who have and don't have the expansions (there will be even more variations when the 2nd expansion is released). Just look at Skyrim mods - so many mods with 5 different versions for expansion owners... I don't have enough time to maintain the multiple versions of the guide, so I'm creating it for the full version with expansions. I am not aware of any mods in the guide requiring Hearts of Stone expansion, but I can't guarantee it will work if you don't own it :) In other news... Gwent Live is helluva game! Such a great fun with a live opponent! Thought my wife wouldn't like it, but she actually loves it :D

+100 for chia seeds! I love them!

Ah, yeah that's true. If you use GOG Galaxy you can turn off auto updates and manually roll back though. I didn't even read the change log for 1.11 so not sure what's the best course of action. I'll get to it soon hopefully, but at this moment another project is taking most of my time.
-
It's ridiculous. WTF is wrong with people?
-
Hey Grant, thanks for the feedback. Your point is perfectly valid and I'll add description to each option in the next update. (As soon as I'll get around to updating my game to 1.11 - just depends on my free time really). "Sometimes retreat is the best option. " - that's the whole point of not knowing what level your enemies are :D But yeah, I agree on lower levels it may be a problem. Thanks for pointing it out!
