  1. I have finally got a workable game going with this and SR:LE and a bunch of other mods, not Requiem, and it is working really well. Had to merge a bunch of plugins. Not perfectly stable but usually good for a few hours before any kind of unrepeatable random ctd. That is quite useful as a signal to get off my arse and do something useful. I am including my modlist and load order just for interest. Modlist: Load order:
  2. Wow a commodore vic 20, that was my first pc I started programming on that thing and also gave up programming on it, little did I know what would become of the whole pc business. Any way these packs have a specific focus or follow a certain ethos. Requiem is / was notoriously difficult to get working in a set up like STEP so this pack is just about doing that and for players who would like that particular challenge. It will never be a specific part of STEP but just a pack that people can choose to use or not. So any contributions here are welcome but need to be about useful ideas to get things working smoother, or complimentary mods or indeed ideas for the guide rather than a critique of the mod itself, that would be a job for the authors to handle back on the nexus. Either way most of the people who comment in this thread are fans of Requiem for their own reasons and have their own experiences with the pack. I'm sure if we all found it as frustrating as you seem to we would not be using it. The beauty of a forum like STEP is that shared experiences can help improve things for everyone and so most of us welcome helpful or useful feedback which in turn helps to improve the experience for everyone. So if you notice any problems implementing the pack, the way it is worded or things that don't work properly please let me know, or if you have any tips or tricks that would help people here improve their experience then please share. P.S. I still have a box in the attic full of AD&D stuff. Have not used it in many years but can't quite bring myself to throw it away.
  3. Indeed my good man, my point exactly.
  4. No it isn't prevalent throughout the game, and Vilkas does stop eventually, but the fight does last much longer as he has a good deal more health than you, so I am surprised that you can beat him down to bleed out stage, for my part I'm just trying to stay alive and get in as many licks as I can until he stops the fight - possibly your install is not working correctly in some ways. As for the rest of it that is all your opinion and one I completely disagree with, having played AD&D and been a DM for many years prior to these types of games being in existence, I am confident of my interpretation of what is meant by role-playing. As stated before Requiem - The Role Playing Overhaul by Xarrian (not Ogreboss, he has since taken it over) is not for everyone. I use the MCM to make adjustments if i want it less grindy and that option is and always has been open to you as I have suggested to you before in this thread. Try SkyRe and or similar if you want the game to be easier at lower levels. You should, with Requiem, be able to reach level 10 and higher fairly quickly within a few hours of gameplay, but you will need to use your "imagination" and your characters strengths as well as your surroundings not to mention combat skills to survive it. As far as being a thief goes you will need to play as a sneaky thief and avoid combat until you can confidently take out enemies with stealth. You will need to make sure that you have dual wield parrying so that you can block or else evasion tactics to survive any kind of fight especially against heavily armoured foes whom, though slower will beat you in a straight fight, get a follower who is armoured to take on the enemy whilst you attack from behind. Character builds have been a subject of discussion on the Nexus page for this mod for a long time, and you can play anything you want successfully but with awareness that some builds will be harder than others at lower levels, this provides some balance as these builds are invariably powerful at later levels e.g. mages - running around with sparky fingers whilst wearing a bathrobe is clearly suicidal but at later levels you become extremely dangerous to others whilst still wearing a bath robe but now it's the "Bathrobe of DOOM". Anyway if Requiem isn't doing it for you then drop it - clearly your experience is different from mine and that is all fine. I wouldn't have put the pack together if I didn't think it was worth doing and I have never felt forced into a limited range of character builds even though as I said before some builds are easier to play at lower levels than others.
  5. You can beat Vilkas at level 1, you just need to block well and take a healing potion every now and then, and be evasive when you need to be.
  6. BFB was made deliberately harder. You need fire spells and solid silver weaponry and help, and arrows are not effective against Draugr. It was intended not to be do-able until you reach at least level 11. This is because once this is complete you are on to your first Dragon and these are much much harder than vanilla e.g. Deadly Dragons on Expert setting and so you would not stand a chance unless you had some good gear, potions etc.. It takes time to accumulate all these things. So you need to take on less demanding missions first at the lower levels. Also it makes sense not to be able to take on Dragons when you have just started out Dragonborn or not. BFB is a showstopper but other quests and areas do not get the same treatment from Requiem so BFB should not be seen as the standard for all quests.
  7. Check your strategies and gameplay skills. Not meaning to be rude but I find it relatively straight forward as long as you "role play" that means think as though you are actually in Skyrim and do not want to die. Sure it does take a while before you can go toe to toe with big bad guys but that is realistic, that is what role playing is if you want a harder game play experience. Of course if you want to be a big hero from the first role of the dice or prefer exploring leaving combat relatively un-modded or close to vanilla so it is easy then of course as you say Requiem is not for you. It requires patience and immersion into the world properly - this is what makes it such a different experience from the original game. You can of course reduce the grind aspect through the MCM menu - it is there as options and you can survive more easily and still get the benefit of the well placed enemies and twists to the normal game.
  8. Masters in this instance refer to any plugin that has it's levelled lists merged by the bashed patch. Assuming you have followed the STEP install exactly and have used BOSS or indeed LOOT to sort your plugins then you should be good to go. Probably best to delete your bashed patch then rebuild it according to instructions. If you remove an esp. or esm. after building the patch and it was one that was included in the bashed patch when you built it then yes TES5Edit will flag it up as you have described. Build the patch last when you have all your mods set.
  9. Blocking in dual wield is not as effective AFAIK. Both attack damage and blocking should be less because you attack twice as much. I generally find two handed to be the most effective attack and blocking combo for quick kills, dual wield requires a lot more movement to avoid receiving killing blows and to getvaround their blocks which is at it should be.
  10. Yes that is exactly what I am saying. prod80 clearly says as on his list of incompatible mods on the site. You can still use it as I have described but you don't need it.
  11. If you use prod80's CoT weather patch mod then you don't need this as it is already included. Of course you can still use this if you load it after the CoT weather patch's plugins etc.. It is why I removed it from the Weather and Lighting Pack. That said I really did like it as well, really made you want to get undercover and out of the rain.
  12. Realistic Nights does add this feature I believe, but of course not everyone likes their nights to be quite so dark. If these little bugs can be fixed then this would essentially be a fix for the game in my view.
  13. This does add a very useful mechanic to the game especially to thief or assassin characters. If this all works as described then it would gain my endorsement. Someone would need to either add new quests or modify existing ones in order to gain a route to completion that requires this ability. That said as it is, this mod would allow many radiant quests to be completed without taking out a whole bandit den, or similar. A useful feature to have would be a chance of failure for the disguise depending on certain parameters, e.g. the number of bandits in a hideout. They would presumably all know each other whereas infiltrating an army would be much easier. There could be a conversation element where you have a chance to convince a suspicious bad guy that you are genuine or at least from a different camp of the same faction (persuade skill and a reason to improve it). Anyway all looks good and will be keeping an eye on it.
  14. It shows red because it is dependent on certain mods being present. Click on the plugins in WB and check which masters are missing. P.S. I like dark it is more realistic to me, as many of the building seem to have small dark windows which only allow a little light. I used to live in a house that was over 500 years old with zero neighbours and sure it could be bright in the day, but it didn't take much to make it darker. If there is no light source then it will be dark inside and the same applies outside which is the beauty of Realistic Nights.
  15. Those esps merge well to one esp. Just in case you wanted to know.
  16. Yup! That's what it's for. Because everyone uses different lighting mods and set-ups I have not added specific instructions for changing the load order in BOSS, but if I were to do that it would look something like this. Edit: Now that I am getting familiar with merging mods I may stick all this back together in my load order and merge the hell out of these mods, a possibility of getting all of this down to three plugins. I am using Serenity ENB at present which also does all the weather but has no plugins.
  17. Load order my friend or you don't have the relevant masters. Do you have all the DLCs and Climates of Tamriel ionstalled? Silly question really, I guess you do but the other reason could be load order. The Realistic nights plugin needs to be after any and all other lighting / weather plugins. Failing that post your load order and I'll have a quick look to see what else might be interfering.
  18. Fog edition and with Realistic Nights those image space fixes are for any potential problems you might find (probably wont need them), try them out they should be loaded after any lighting mods.
  19. I cut it because the CoT Weather Patch also does rain so it makes the rain mod redundant that said, the rain is heavier with the Real Rain mod (not a lot but definitely a bit heavier) so if you load Real Rain after the CoT Weather Patch plugins then you should be OK, I was doing that till I realised that I was duplicating the same effect. I tried Real Clouds when it was buggy but not since, I guess I will give it a try, but I have heard that it still has some bugs. The only specific conflicts it may have would be to different weather events in CoT and possibly some ENB presets but that is just guessing. I'm sure it would look great but whether want it in my game is another question. I have been using Serenity lately instead of this pack to see how it matches up (much better for plugin count). Not sure that it does but still testing. Right now I am focussed on trying to get gameplay just how I want it. Quite a challenge that one.
  20. Interestingly I have just been looking at a mod which is recommended by prod80 on his Serenity enb page. This is a replacer called "Lady Body by Krista", and is hosted either in Russian on the authors site and translated in a site called blackelf. It is very good quality though the textures are a little too glamorous. What makes this interesting though is that it includes all the clothing and armours meshes from the game all in one download. I am going to try it with Mature Skins to see if it improves the look for me - still one mod everything you need. Edit: works with Mature Skin. LINK https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3Wxfg5AcXx-RDVKMzRYY2djeDQ/preview?pli=1 (sorry am on a pad)
  21. This is why I suggested some days ago that STEP might be better off not having a suggested female body replacer because whichever way you go there will be potential problems, such as vanilla compatibility. I don't know what anyone thought of the idea I suggested as an alternative because it looked as though my post was misinterpreted and the main point of it missed. The idea was that instead of recommending a specific mod or group of mods STEP could recommend that a mesh and texture re-placer is used and then link to a sub-guide which has a number of options with pictures so that users could make their own mind up about what they want to use. e.g. Neo's recommendations from SR would include a correct install of XP32, Mature Skin, UNPB Redux, UNP Dawnguard armors, UNP Dragonborn armors, UNP Femaile armors etc.. Other's could post similar mod combinations that have been tested and shown to be working well together. SFW and sensible proportion options could be highlighted but essentially this is one area that will have a variety of different tastes and preferences there just isn't a mod that does for female characters what Better Males does for male characters.
  22. Yeah the Dragonborn might look like a Nordic Amazonian gym bunny but what about all the other characters and races in the game, essentially we are back in personal taste grounds. What about EBD, that way you get a variety of textures. Or at that point in the guide instead of linking to several specific mods it could link to a separate short sub guide that show a variety of different options with install instructions and pictures so users can make their own choice and or get a sense of how to build their own. So instead of recommending a STEP option, STEP just recommends that a mesh and texture re-placer is used and a link to the sub-guide which can also include any armour modifications. That way everybody's happy and STEP has delivered once again.
  23. Too much make up on the UNPB version but stick Mature Skin textures over that and you have a winner. Nothing out of proportion, athleticism built in but still feminine. Hands down winner just needs a better texture.
  24. Definitely weird about UNPB causing a CTD, not that it is the ideal for STEP - personally not a huge fan of any of these. I don't think any of them match the improvement from Better Males and there does seem to be a good deal of grey face here and there (or at least hints of it). CHHF 2.5 looks best overall, but not keen on the eradication of the breasts. Though warrior women would wear the equivalent of a sports bra especially if wearing armour (chafing), most women wouldn't the rest of the time. Still the key is a good base to start from for STEP. I would tend to stick with the SR solution for myself though.
  25. Yeah well it wasn't in CORE when I put the pack together, I have removed it now.
