  1. My family was the first on our block to get Pong, way back when. I've been fascinated by every shiny new gaming product since :-)
  2. Bump; If I understand correctly the first of three DLC releases, Automatron, end of this month with the creation kit for PC hot on its heels. Then then second DLC, Wasteland, in April with Xbox mod support for PC made mods right after. Finally the huge third DLC, Far Harbor, in May with PS mod support for PC made mods. Check out the Beth FO4 site for the Automatron trailer and more info.
  3. Belated & understated update; Test universe has been launched (some time ago) allowing various gameplay in a single star system. Multicrew vessels available in test universe. "Fly free" ongoing 'til Monday. Cheers.
  4. Regarding Baldur's Gate EE, there's a 25 hour long DLC "Siege of Dragonspear" that bridges the gap between BG:EE & BG2:EE. You can import/export your character through all three. Available March 31, have a look on the Beamdog site.
  5. That sounds wicked awesome. I had a lot of fun with Battlefront I & II on the console back when, very addictive & enjoyable game play, should be even better with all the co-workers involved. I intended to wait on FO4, but water cooler (actually around a water dispenser) conversations with co-workers convinced me to purchase early & I'm loving it. FO4 is immersive & enjoyable enough I'm able to overlook the short comings & just have fun with what it does well. When my initial enthusiasm starts to wear out I'm sure the community of modders & DLC from my season pass will reignite it, thanks in advance btw.
  6. I want Sparrow Prince/McFly's hoverboard though, and I think the politically correct term for the androids is "Synths" ;-) I plan on shooting them regardless.
  7. I couldn't wait to start & just get a taste for Boston, it's wicked awesome (couldn't resist). While there is definitely room for improvement & polish, there is a lot to like. I'm finding the enemy AI improved, experienced both the dogs trying to flank & raiders making intelligent use of cover. Enjoyed the erupting mole rats, as did Dogmeat, get 'em boy! I'm having enough fun I'm not missing my usual OCD tweak this & that frenzy that so often keeps me from actually playing. Haven't run into enemies with nukes yet, need to find a non-melee weapon solution for that. Oh, how cool is it that Cogsworth knows to call me Deckard, now I just need to find That Gun.
  8. Before you take the refund route, perhaps there's some hope. I have the same GTX 760 & am enjoying FO4's performance so far. The game did its auto-detect & set graphics to "High", I haven't checked the fps, but it looks & feels smooth. Are your settings pushed to "Ultra"? Another thought, DoubleYou has an Ini thread, maybe some tweaks on that front could bring your framerate up? Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious. Like any Beth title, FO4 cries out for modders to make it the game it should be, but the gameplay definitely redeems it. While I miss the hardcore survival mode of FONV, the merger of the Perk & Skill system is great. I quite like the FO4 pip boy phone app that syncs to your in-game pip boy for 2nd screen functionality. From what I hear the Power Armour has been given a punch up & is now more an exoskeleton/vehicle with modular armour, and body armour has a modular aspect which is quite nice (reminds me of Morrowind equipment layers). Hopefully you can resolve the framerate issue, there's plenty to enjoy in this title & it's sure to get bigger & better next year when the GECK/Creation Kit is released.
  9. $48usd is a good deal, grab it. I've had co-workers telling me tales of wasteland adventure for the past few days & my will finally broke. Download complete, it's playtime!
  10. So, that thing i said about waiting for the GOTY bundle, that lasted all of 4 days. My FO4 download from Steam should be complete in about 7 hours & my new GTX 970 arrives next week. Vacation days scheduled. edit: Steam now estimates 1 hour 46 minutes, nice!
  11. @ Neo: thanks for the link, watched, disappointed. Looking forward to seeing what the community does with the game, will likely wait for the GOTY/platinum/game+dlc version before buying.
  12. The Star Map is now up on the website, so you can take your laptop to a park (?) and check out the SC universe & the jump points that connect it.
  13. The mocap shoot is for the single player game, which was the original kickstarter goal, and the voice actors are fulfillment of a stretch goal the community wanted. As for the flight model, it's a true newtonian physics fly by wire flight sim - just what the community ordered. HOTAS is fully supported now, and Saitek has partnered with CIG to make a Star Citizen specific modular HOTAS (with trackballs instead of "hats" for more precise gimballed weapon accuracy). Finally the game is pre-alpha stage, so work in progress, but just like it doesn't make sense to say there's nothing to do in Fallout 4 because it hasn't been released I answer questions related to Star Citizen game play by referring to the features expected at final release (some time in 2016). The list of expected features, and the approach to various play types is encouraging. From the progress updates so far I see no reason to predict failure, I'm looking forward to successful delivery - it should be fun to play when its finished.
  14. Sorry I missed your post. I didn't care for EVE as it seemed perfectly happy to progress without need for my input, just let the various timers run & collect rewards upon completion. Star Citizen is a sim in the fps & flight simulator sense of the word. There are many other occupations to pursue if you want; mining, trading, farming, astronomy, medicine, overclocking ship components, etc. All of which require your direct participation through mini-game type mechanics or something similar, you must perform actions through your interface (mouse & keyboard, game controller or HOTAS) no timer-based/level based element exists (not an "rpg" style mechanic, although role-playing is still a thing as much as you want it to be). tl;dr More Skyrim, less WoW.
  15. The website gives some insight into that behind the scenes drama, lots of video segments release weekly (10 for the [insert department here; developers/writers/artists/etc], or Meet the [insert new person from department here]) with interviews of various employees. Of course they are limit as you say by NDA, etc. but still interesting insight into game design (especially the art stuff from early on, and the Next Great Starship competition videos were interesting and got into a lot of art detail).
  16. The 8 km AC area is a CryEngine 32 bit thing (if I understood correctly), the new play area using double precision will be 100,000 km or so radius (review that 2 hour video or check the last 10FTC for the topic "coordinates"). As far as production time, it is what is, but keep in mind that includes 10 hours or so of mocapped acting from Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill & many others plus conversion of CryEngine to 64 bit addressing etc. etc. I'm confident they aren't wasting any time & it will be worth the wait. Since you can get a copy of the whole thing for $35.00 usd or so, I'd call it a bargain however long it takes.
  17. Following the regular reports I'm of the opinion they are doing it right, sounds like most of the foundation has been laid, we should see some solid deliverables before the end of the year as a result. Once the 2.0 update is released ("soon") we'll have access to some serious real estate with a variety of things to do & places to go (see the CitizenCon Full video coverage for examples of that & a sneak peak into the single player mocap shoot). I'm willing to wait for them to get it right.
  18. It is what it is, which is pre- pre-alpha, be patient like the other 900k of us.
  19. Dogfighting is playable (& all ships free until 25 Oct. ) , FPS & sandboxing "soon" :-)
  20. CitizenCon was awesome, 8 new videos released, check out the full live Con video for new ingame footage & more. If you're thinking about becoming a Citizen, feel free to sign up using my referral code STAR-7TNP-46SY, you'll get 5000 in game credits (& help me get an in game fish tank, woot!). Also, fly all the current ships fpr free until 25 October using code CITCONFLIGHT2K15. See you in the 'verse, Red
  21. @ Neovalen: I would call it early alpha rather than tech demo but same diff, progress contiues constantly which is good the recent 1.1.6a rebalanced shields & missiles making combat flow much better. Hangar is early as well, customizable rooms & the ability to invite friends & organization members to come with the ability to exit to the ArcCorp (corporate planetside environment) landing zone end of this month. Animations are currently rough, the FPS module "Star Marine" (companion to "Arena Commander" dog fighting module) opens end of September with the new skeleton rig & new animations. I'm particularly excited for this as the combat module is intended to be very realistic (no built variable accuracy component rather the breathing & other animation dynamic is intended to create the challenge instead of "dice rolling", but the constant head bob & breathing loop bleeds into non-combat activity). Plenty more on that on their website (see the weekly Star Marine postings), oh there's even a non-combat FPS sport to be included as an arena option (Sata Ball, reminds me of Ender's Game if you've seen that, carry the ball through a zero gee environment while other players shoot / move through floating cover). Arena commander 2.0 (as shown in the Gamescom demo video linked above) isn't due until after Citizencon (Oct, Nov ?) but should add new ship based game types. Currently ship developement is hit and miss; I have an Origin 315P which looks beautiful in hangar at this time (much depth & detail to the paint/skin of the ship, side doors & ladders animate nicely) but my Constellation Taurus (multi-crew cargo hauler) is very rough on the outside & even rougher (read: broken) on the inside with the saving grace being that 2 design leads have been working on the Constellation class since February & the ship will be updated soon (probably with the Arena Commander 2.0 in Nov?) based on feedback from the community. There is a deep bench of single seat fighters currently, but players are limited to their pledge ship(s) with free weeks/weekends & the like opening some/all other ships temporarily. Success in Arena Commander (or subscription or cash) earns rental credits (REC) that can unlock ships & weapons to try for a week of play. I'm not all that savvy re- video options, but I expect my performance is at/below yours due to hardware. I did notice a slow but steady performance improvement over the last year (in the hangar and dog fighting arena) as they constantly optimize & improve (I hear that applies to network connectivity as well). tl;dr Shiny future ahead, looking forward to on hell of a 'verse to play in for years to come (like Fallout/Skyrim).
  22. @ Rootsrat: ED is probably good enough to deserve it's own thread. Also SC is a very realistic dogfighting/fps/econimic simulation, not an "arcadey" game, I was hoping to showcase those features when i started this thread but I think there are getting buried under speculation from folks who haven't actually played SC. I'm smiling as I type this and just trying to share the SC love :-)
  23. No worries abou the missing tutorial, just open the menu & check your key bind options. You can play using mouse & keyboard, game control or HOTAS; all are equally valid. I'm using a trackball mouse & Razer game controller but my Saitek X52 works well too. Once you review your controls enter Arena Commander; select Drone Sim, Vanduul Swarm, pick one of two battlefields & any available ship, you're good to go. Once you feel confident you can try multiplayer if available in your demo. * update; your most used keys are likely; throttle (+/-), target nearest foe, strafe (up/down/left/right), countermeasure (launch/cycle). There's much more detail than that but I suggest leaving power & shield micro-management for later. Most importantly remember flight is realistic not arcade: you have momentum & rocks will hurt you, catastrophically!
  24. I don't notice a big performance difference between my SSD & HDD install, click the link to my STEP profile for my PC details Arena Commander runs great on my rig.
  25. All ships are viable, you'll find one that suits your flight style, the F7A Hornet is a good starting point (standard military fighter). Definitely try an Origin 300 series, that's my baby, but they all have their charms. & happy flying new citizens, see you in the 'verse.
