Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
thalastwon replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Something I noticed while following the guide, is that after you go into tes5edit to fix the plugins and update them to be compatible, you always say to take the esp out of the overwrite folder and put them into the mod folder it was originally in. When you exit TES5Edit, at the bottom of the window it has backup plugin checkmarked. If you remove that checkmark, MO puts the fixed esp in the correct mod folder instead of the overwrite folder without having to put it back manually. -

I was going through the guide, and under langley's wood metal and stone textures workshop, the list of textures to exclude have smill01.dds and smill01_n.dds listed twice. I'm guessing the second set is meant to be snail01.dds and snail01_n.dds. -

Agreed with all of the above. The guide is looking amazing! I can't wait to see it finished and try it out! -
You'll have to move the ESP from the Overwrite folder to the backup folder. It is found in /ModOrganizer/overwrite, just move the ESP to /ModOrganizer/overwrite/backup and when you want to use it again, just move it to the overwrite folder again.

SKYRIMLE Hectrol CAVES DELUXE HighRes Retex (by Hectrol)
thalastwon posted a topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Didn't see this one anywhere on the board, so I would like to go ahead and throw this mod into the pot. Been trying out random mods just for the heck of it and came across this. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29145 It is a caves retexture that seems to keep decently close to the vanilla, while adding some better bump mapping. So far its been gorgeous inside caves. Scene: Exiting Bleak Falls Barrow, immediately after the first word wall and obtaining the Dragon Stone from the boss draugr Vanilla-HRDLC >> Current STEP - Snow and Rocks 2K >> Beauty of Skyrim >> Hectrol Caves Med. Res 2K  Scene: a different shot just down the hallway from where the other shots were taken, still in BFB Vanilla-HRDLC >> Current STEP - Snow and Rocks 2K >>  Beauty of Skyrim >>  Hectrol Caves - Med Res 2K  More compares on this post and the one below it: https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=1351&pid=44817#pid44817 Mod Testing: Detailed comparison shots against Snow and Rock Textures HD (current STEP) and Beauty of Skyrim - Caves and Mines (Provided - thanks michaelrw)Now, this is where the community comes in - which of the 4 comparison shots in this post looks the best? Vote on the poll above, and (optionally) provide reasoning for your decision. -
When I first found step I would spend all of my free time modding. I got over that after 4 months when the wife started compalining at me about it. She would tell me I don't play the game enough. Now I test mods every once in a while, but I can say I have 4 playthroughs under my belt. When I get my new computer next week I'm going to start playthrough 5. I can't wait to get my new computer running as it'll be the first time I put my own computer together.

Epic moments in Skyrim

So in the spirit of Christmas, I bring to you a mod showcase of Christmas in Skyrim. I know that most won't be downloading these mods due to non-lore friendliness, but I think it's awesome to see some of the mods that pop up during the holidays. Definitely worth a watch. [video=youtube] I haven't been posting anywhere on the board in a while, just watching for now. Currently I'm taking a break from Skyrim until January when I get my new computer. -
Happy Birthday indeed! Hope its a great one!

ENB .119 vs .123 Performance Question? - [SOLVED]
thalastwon replied to Deathwing514's question in Post-Processing Support
I've been using .123 for about a week and it does feel a bit optimized. I have about 5-10 fps more with ssao enabled depending on the scene. However it did make the indoors look brighter for me, making me move to the classic version of RCRN to compensate. Otherwise it is a little more optimized than .119, but not a whole lot. -
SKYRIMLE Possibly The Most Realistic Rocks and Mountains in Skyrim
thalastwon replied to Ramrod51's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I tried this mod and didn't like it either. It looks too unnatural, and if you climb one of the mountains, you'll see a LOT of patterning. -
At the time the last STEP version was written, RCRN 3.5/6 had not come out yet. Now that it's out though, I'm all for putting it back in STEP. Definitely beats COT by a mile in my eyes.

Werechair: THE UPHOLSTERING [video=youtube] -
I found that to be true with my first pass testing multiple ENBs as well. SkyRealism - Cinematic with RCRN (I used classic) provided the best overall color and lighting experience out of the box. I have several more combinations to go through right now, but I'm expecting this same combination to come out on top again. I also need to test out SMAA. Only down side is you can't run it with RCRN and an ENB. To use an ENB with RCRN you have to use up the one proxy you have in enbseries.ini. Not that it matters because RCRN Web site states that RCRN is not compatible with SMAA. I'm guessing that's because of this proxy limitation. How the two are implemented...there is no way to get them to work together in their current implementations. If you want to try SMAA with RCRN and ENB, check out RCRN Plus, from our very own TheCompiler: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/180 Oh, he updated it again. I'm gonna jump on this!

I suggest trying out the ultra settings with SMAA, or even try the Uber settings from Matso's ENB (just use the SMAA folder.) It saves me 2-5 frames during more demanding scenes, like the swamp near Morthal, over MSAA. It also tends to give better performance while my character is in motion as well, not as much edge shimmering compared to FXAA.

Hunh, this is the first mod where I have to say I don't see the difference. Is it the coals themselves or the fire rising from them?

I gotta say I really appreciate this information! Thanks for posting your research!

RCRN and RCReN (TC's modified Skyrealism) Takes care of the nights and indoors pretty well even with .123. Black reach is a bit bright for my tastes, but I think its the SweetFX I need to mess with.
-
I've found RCRN 3.6 with RCReN ENB is the combination I can't stay away from. I feel that Project ENB brings a fuzzy brightness to it that pulls me way too far out of the game. Before I was just using Skyrealism with CoT, but ever since RCRN used to be a part of STEP, I haven't been able to stay away from it for very long. That and RCReN doesn't use Dof, which is nice for me, because most ENB DoFs give me a headache.

So for a few weeks now, whenever I update a mod in MO and load the esps into Wrye Bash to remake a bashed patch, it will bring up a list of corrupt/unrecognized files, and its a list of recently updates files. I've had this issue for about a month and it hasn't interfered with being able to make bashed patches or anything, and it only had 1 mod on it before. Now it has like 12 mods on it and I was wondering if this may have an effect on the game, or if anyone has had anything similar happening. I am using Wrye Smash 300(standalone): Default. EDIT: Nevermind, just found there is an updated version of bash. Everythings fixed. Silly me.

ENB stopped loading injector?

I'm stupid and disorganized my Mods.
thalastwon replied to mynnia's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ah, I think I understand. I'm not very familiar with moving the mods folder as I always just keep it ModOrganizer/Mods. You can try in the settings, clicking on the workarounds tab and try using a different loading mechanism. Having it set to ModOrganizer loads the virtual directory normally. Set to script extender forces it to load through skse as long as you have it installed, and set to proxy DLL puts a d3d9.dll to get it to load your mods that way. I wouldn't really recommend keeping the mods in the data directory since MO is meant for keeping your data directory unchanged (mostly). If you move them to a different folder, you won't have to reinstall them since in each folder there's a meta.ini that tells it what its load order is, but for simplicity's sake I keep my mods in the default mod folder. -
Shadows and Texture Lines - How to resolve?
thalastwon replied to TechAngel85's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm using STEP and just not installing any mods that are incompatible with RCRN, and using RCRN 3.6 with TheCompiler's RCReN. RCReN is TheCompiler's custom ENB for RCRN and works really well. Just remember that STEP is more a starting guide than a YOU MUST HAVE THIS kinda set. Plus after like 3 months, with all the updates from Bethesda and mod creators, STEP kinda becomes obsolete and needs to be updated relatively fast. Just kinda gotta adapt, lol. Just remember to read some of the changes in the OP post of this thread https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=1134, as it is being updated as a preview for some of the changes for the next version.
