woa.. well it's not odd at all if it's crashing if your fiddling with the plugin list :) It's perhaps a bit confusing at first but a mods assets BSA/ESP/ESM/loose files are all handled differently. When you optimized the vanilla textures you just replace the textures and meshes while the plugins (esp/esm) stay the same. So plugins (esp/esm) should be remain ticked in the plugin list of MO (right pane), while you can safely remove the original BSA files from the actual /data folder (since you overwrite them 100% with your optimized files, which are now stored in Mod Organizers virtual file system). So leave the plugins checked, otherwise you deny Skyrim to load the vanilla assets, which will obviously crash the game. The exception to this is the HRDLC mods which ONLY contain textures which the vanilla ESMs are already loading. Mod Organizer helps you with this by letting skyrim virtually access them from it's own mod folder. Don't know if it made anything clearer but here's some help on MO.

Are you using Mod Organizer? The archives should installed as mods through MO for best compability. MO unzip those archives into loose files. The loose files overwrite the BSA files and that's why you can remove them. If I understand correctly you are placing 7zip archives in the data folder and this is probably why it crashes, skyrim can't read those and you removed the BSAs. You can unzip the folders into /data as loose files but just let MO handle it. It's much cleaner. Thanks Fred

Isn't this already in vanilla for stamina? Thanks Fred

Can't you just use a thread or a text document? When it's ironed out make a wiki out of it. Or this: https://wiki.step-project.com/Form:Pack

Shouldn't that depend of personal choice though? I mean, vanilla traps are pretty much just for looks as it is.Both yes and no. No, if you are following STEPs recommendations. Which is the whole point of this site isn't it? :) In this case it may not matter much whichever you choose but since mods work the way they do within the confinement of the Skyrim engine, many many things start to become dependent on each other like a big puzzle. If you make too many deviations you have to start making your own patches and the whole thing becomes an unstable mess. STEP is like a complete setup that, with some reservations, work pretty well on the baseline machines I suppose. Boy! I'm rambling today.

No, well yes, but what I meant was that the actual .esp has changed name as of the latest update. It's called something like SkyfallsSkymills + DG + DB + something.esp. The content, update aside, is the same. What you can do is download version 3.2 FOMOD version. Select the options that correspond to your STEP setup plus these: Realistic Water Two (Default) 1,5x Vanilla (Default) (double-check these as I am writing this on top of my head) The result is an .esp called SkyFalls + SkyMills + DG + DB + WT.esp you manually place, or use BUM, AFTER SkyFalls + SkyMills Total edition.esp (which is the old name) in the master list. /edit Sniped by Neovalen :D

Skyfalls updated. It's called something else now. Options 1. Install the new one and sort it yourself with BUM or manually. 2. Find the old version. 3. Skip it. 4. Do a little jig and wait a couple of weeks for it to land into the BOSS masterlist. I know jigs historically is danced at the end of a show, but in this case you are free to do it before. 5. Rename what you get from the new FOMOD to what is listed on step. Never done this so don't know how it will work out.

Ah, but the notice on top of the Skyrim installation guide say it's only recommendations for the tinkering types. All info needed for STEP is in the... STEP guide. And thus the only SKSE ini tweak you need for baseline (which is SKSEÂ 1.6.16) is ClearInvalidRegistrations=1. As of STEP 2.2.8 that is.

That is a great comparison! Thank you! Been sticking with Phinix for a while after Skylight became unbearably dark (for me), but have to give Seasons of Skyrim (true HDR) a go now. Here's the list with respective links to nexus: VanillaGrim & SomberGrim & Somber (SweetFX option)RealLike (Normal Nights)RealVision (Opt B)Seasons of Skyrim (HD6 Tribute)Seasons of Skyrim (True HDR)SkyRealism (Realistic)SkyRealism (SweetFX from RealVision Opt B)TherionTrue VisionBleakUnbleakPhinix Natural/edit At the time of writing only 50% of the links work, but I can't see anything wrong with them so I suspect its nexus that is overloaded or just really slow.

DROPPED Unofficial Skyrim Patch (by Unofficial Patch Project Team)
PlanetExp replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Argonian Tail twist is apparently included in USKP now so the mod could be dropped for 2.2.9? Thanks Fred -
Is UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=true set in enblocal.ini? This allows you to use enboost without any ENB effects on. Enboost should do nothing for your fps by the way. It just allocates video memory in a different way so you can load higher res textures without crashing, if I understand it correctly. If anything it should be normal for fps to drop when using ENB rather than boost it, imo. Thanks Fred

Are you running MO from program files (x86)/ ? If so move the whole thing to c:/games or another folder of your liking that doesn't want admin privileges. / edit Whops. Missed OP was fixed. Food for thought still.

DROPPED Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized (by Vano89)
PlanetExp replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Slightly off topic: One thing to look out for when optimising yourself is the foliage. There's mentions of it in in the guide but not much. I think I forgot the DDSopt ini first time and ended up with too sharp foliage. I didn't realise until I messed with ENBs which accentuated the problem. HRDLC optimized had taken care of this and the Vano89s result were much better than mine. I ended up using his instead, about 40 hours game time later and scrapping all my own optimised textures. About a days worth of hours down the drain so to speak :) Thanks Fred -

No Thanks Fred -
Just to clarify it should be 0.01. Small change, big difference :) Thanks Fred

Skyrim Immersive Creatures 6.5.1 does not install with MO
PlanetExp replied to wolverine2710's question in Mod Organizer Support
I recall having to unzip SIC somewhere, then moving the files I wanted manually into MO overwrite folder and using right click "create mod from overwrite" option in MO, bypassing FOMOD entirely. didn't give much time thinking it was an issue. Thanks Fred -
Question about STEP Patch
PlanetExp replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
It won't run at all since the patch is dependant on those mods to work. MO will throw you an error telling you so, and let you know which mods are missing. From there there is two options I can think of: either use the manual patches for the mods that you do have, or make your own patch and copy changes from the STEP patch to a custom conflict resolution patch. There's a third option and that is to remove references to the mods you don't have in the STEP patch, but that is... Not a very good solution and will cause you more headaches than it is worth :) Edit: STEP patch only cover some specific conflicts and forwards. Chances are you have those mods in your mod order already, and thus can use the patch. Try activating it and see which one it forwards with TES5edit. Thanks Fred -
Questions from a new STEP user
PlanetExp replied to bmt22033's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm just chiming in from my own STEP experience the last few month. If I were to start over on a new install I'd... 1 ... download all mods in the right order right away. Then just activate CORE mods and leave the rest unticked for another day. This will spare you some MO quirks later (like sorting a very long mod list manually, or that newly installed mods end up at the very bottom, for example). 2 ... Installed the CORE patch and looked at the notes more clearly. If you only use some of the extended mods look at the patch notes and manually add the needed patch or create your own (check Neovalens excellent Skyrim Revisited Legendary Edition wiki for that). The Extended patch only if you use all the mods that need the patch... Which you only can see in TES5edit. 3 ... Leave all mods that came in BSAs the way they came. Even though I made an extensive test on my machine and found the speed difference negligible, it'll save you about 20-33% hdd space of the total STEP install. If you run into trouble (I didn't) you can unpack later. Going the other way is more cumbersome imo. Second 3 ... Installed more high res versions. I have a 675 and go 50/50 HQ options. You should be relatively safe with all HQ (but don't go nuts - it'll just crash and you'll never know why). Thanks Fred / edit Grammar police. -
REQUEST: S.T.E.P 2.2.8 and MO -- USKP and correct ordering of esp's
PlanetExp replied to wolverine2710's question in Mod Organizer Support
I have them packed in BSAs. In fact I have all major mods repacked to save space too. No problems whatsoever with MO 1.1+. You must remember to tick them manually in the archives tab in MO though. -
Plus Memory Patch will not magically resolve an unstable game. Better to install STEP, get it running without issues, then try the memory patch when and if you are actually running into memory issues (which debugging will tell you). Thanks Fred

I have to agree to OP. I personally set it back to 2.0 again because at my medium shadow settings it seemed to flicker slightly at 0.01 and thus more noticeable than the sudden jump of 2.0. Haven't tried on ultra shadow settings because it kills my GTX675. Thanks Fred

incorporated No Spinning Death Animation (by dDefinder)
PlanetExp replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Just asking to make sure this is not redundant or if some other mod is fixing the same thing. I skipped this one because I have never seen the turn animation or noticed it before. I've kept a lookout and only seen the animation once without this mod. And my character always seem to turn into a ragdoll when dying anyway. Either I'm too busy fighting to notice or I've missed something. -
Is there a mod that... (Mod Detectives)
PlanetExp replied to rootsrat's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I've been thinking for a while if there was a mod out there that could input quests, perks, levels and items into a .bat file of console commands that I can run in a new game, and thus transfer my character to a new game. I don't know how glitchy this will be but it would be nice not have to completely start a new game now when new versions of step is coming up and mods are in the update phase. There are some tools that read the save file and output item lists on a character. But what about quests and map locations? Thanks Fred
