  1. Borrowing this thread to ask a related question, there were so many bsa vs loose files threads but this one was the newest.. From a save file perspective and using mod organizer, is it possible to swap BSAs and loose files at any time? Say if I'd for example like to put some of the bigger optimized textures back into BSAs to check for performance, then unpack them again at a later stage, would I need to start from a clean save every time? Loading times are getting kind of long and I want to trim my skyrim install a bit. I keep everything in loose files at the moment, but swapped the original skyrim textures back into BSAs since the HRDLC optimized did a better job than me re-sizing foliage. Thanks Fred
  2. Yea I think I cried wolf too early. I had only those two mods checked on a what I thought was a clean save and it crashed. I just tried creating a completely new character and ran to Dragonsreach and no crash whatsoever, so something else must have snuck into my save at some point. I'll continue test different scenarios - just ignore my late night ramblings in the meantime, HitStop seem to be working fine :) /Update Weirdest thing ever: Save files AFTER HitStop has been activated works flawlessly. As does save files BEFORE HitStop (which has no mods loaded). This one save file in-between, which is supposed to be clean, crashes horrendously. I have no clue but apparently there is no trace of CTDs in my current play through, so either something weird is going on or it's dependent on something completely different like hardware for example. Either way I recommend HitStop, can't play without it now.
  3. My game crashes if I load Unofficial Skyrim Patch + TK HitStop (no other mods in load order) and leave Dragonsreach into Whiterun. Any ideas for a fix? I'd rather loose the Patch than HitStop. untick USKP tick HitStop = no crash tick USKP tick HitStop = crash tick USKP untick HitStop = no crash Tried various other mods like RWT, AOS, IHSS in different combination but all worked at Dragonsreach with USKP except HitStop. /Edit May have been false alarm sorry. See post below.
  4. Hmm I added this patch and noticed a CTD when leaving Dragonsreach. Tried putting it at the end of the modlist and it still crashes. If I deactivate USKP it doesn't crash, if activate it crashes. Did anyone find a solution for this one? / Edit I actually found the culprit mod. Lyckily I didn't use so many so I unchecked them one after another and found the one causing it: TK HitStop (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23681/?) + USKP causes my game to crash upon leaving Dragonsreach every time. Here's the link to STEPs HitStop thread: https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=1945
  5. Looks very interesting. Would love to implement this as it reminds me of the combat feel of the God of War games. I play a 2-handed barbarian and always felt the hits a little lacking in vanilla. Played around with it and agree the time settings of 1 is too much, 0.5 is a much better number for the stopping effect. Possible bug: In one test where my fps was low the hitstop was extended and a bit after the actual hit. The effect was more like a half second hitstop. Restarted the game and it was back to normal. Could not replicate the bug even running into a fps drop-heavy area or maximize my enb settings.
  6. I've been testing this mod for a while and can honestly say I cannot tell the difference loading its .esp and not loading it. TES5Edit reports it's not empty, anyone know what it does?
  7. Does seem slightly pink otherwise it's great. I have 1GB VRAM so DDSopt'ed the 1k version down to 512px and made a few comparison shots. Unsure if I accidentally swapped vanilla and HQ Snow but the timestamps say it's supposed to be right.
  8. Thanks for the excellent reply! You've helped me tons with the links. The perfect combo for me would be two profiles in MO: I uninstalled all mods and reverted to a clean save so I'll play the game through first without any mods or texture packs whatsoever, in a clean profile. Then I'll create an alternative STEP profile I can play around with without saving the game, switching back whenever I like to progress in the game. Would that be advisable? Is there any way the "STEP" profile can corrupt my clean saves (adding stuff to old saves so to speak)? Also does playing around with ENBs affect the saves in some way? Or am I free to play around with it? Thanks again! Fred
  9. Read some interview with BF4 designers who said they prioritised smooth gameplay over fancy graphics. I completely understand as it would let more people buy and play their game as well. So it might be publishers wishes as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I suppose this is my 'hello' thread. I might get some abbreviations wrong and it will be long, so I apologise in advance. I am pretty new to Skyrim (only about a hundred hours in!) and never finished any main quest lines. At first I promised myself not to mod because I recall modding destroyed oblivion for me - I ended up just fiddling with mods, got bored when it bugged out, uninstalled and never looked back. But after a while the interior lighting of Skyrim started to bug the hell out of me: why is it so bright? Why are the windows so ugly and why in the world don't the NPCs or tables have shadows?! One look at nexus and I was lost in the mod swamp. 25 hours later I had read up on stability, compared hundreds of mods and got a stable great looking game (based on footsteps, HRDLC, wet and cold, get snowy, head tracking, books of Skyrim, pure water, and a few added weapons and armours for the diablo nerve I've nurtured, AOS). I tried Vurts FO, RCRN, ENBs and COT and while it was looking great it was not at all close to the rugged cold Skyrim the vanilla had (it's my first playthrough so I want it near vanilla). Then I stumbled over STEP and I realised it was exactly what I was trying to do with my own game: take out the dumb bugs from vanilla and make it look great but still PLAY and FEEL exactly like vanilla. But reading through the STEP guides for the last three days made me realise it is far from a pleasant experience getting Skyrim behave under the weight of all mods. Top that with a 1GB VRAM card and I have to redo all textures (although I never experienced stuttering with the HRDLC I realised all loading screens are twice as slow and loading cells cause a millisecond freeze once in a while). Now on to my topic :) After installing said mods above I notice strange behaviour of animals, critters and NPCs alike. It could be my attention being more aware but sometimes NPCs do animations like lifting barrels, working with tools and chopping wood without any tools in their hands. Critters seem to leap around and jump into rivers and swim around or glitch out getting stuck on rocks and the like. Guards on patrol don't keep to the roads at times and I find them walking in the middle of nowhere. I didn't see this with vanilla but of course I only played vanilla for about 50 hours or so.. But do you guys notice this behaviour? Is it due to some scripts of my mods or is it common that NPCs bug out in Skyrim? Does it also appear in a STEP:Core install? I'm asking cause after the holidays I'm going to attempt the full STEP install and get my game running smooth as silk and play the game through. Or if I should just give up and play vanilla right away :) Best regards Fred Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Been using this for 30 hours roughly without any noticeable bugs. It adds a lot when looking through interiors without breaking vanilla. One if my favourite mods actually (starting to have many favs though). Haven't experienced the CTD you guys are talking about but I can't remember (or test atm) if I've ever picked up a note. 12. I've been playing with ELFX for about 30 hours and must say as much as I love it, it's just too dark for a near-vanilla experience. At times caves and dungeons are pitch black which means I'll have to play a substantial portion of my game with a torch in hand. If that is not a game mechanical change I don't know what is... Also encountered flickering lights at times. For CoT I hated it. Some weathers in CoT added a tint to the exteriors that imo didn't fit the atmosphere at all. And some clear days looked so warm I thought the snow would melt. Looked great I agree but didn't fit Skyrim. RCRN made the game look like a pretty dx9 game rather than a more modern dx9/10 hybrid (which I know might be a false statement - just my impression of the thing). Also had some glitches with water textures looking odd (PURE WATER had black borders around all water surfaces). Gonna look into RLO when I get back from the holidays. 13. Haven't tried this but Viking homes didn't have chimneys but rather a hole in the middle of the roof where the light came down during the day and the smoke out during the night. Used to work in a Swedish outdoor folk museum (or how the hell you call it).. I think chimneys are a rather late invention but don't take my word for it :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I'm using it and it works great with vanilla weather. It does splash on every surface so with the combination of SFO it looked odd to see splashes in the forests and on top of grass. And it was unusable with supreme storms but I found that mod to be less than desirable anyway so dumped it in favour of splash of rain. One of my favourite mods with Get Snowy and Wet and Cold. 15. That's amazing! The lightning in RLO is superb but I always found the interiors so dark. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. AOS is fantastic. It is very close to vanilla in that it doesn't add many new sounds (that I know of) but it alters the soundscape of existing sounds to sound larger and more dramatic in a way. I can't play without it now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
