Linux WINE-ge GoG non-Steam focused System Setup Guide
Badfrog88 replied to James_Richards's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
I've followed your guide regarding installing the base game files, but the " Skyrim " folder isn't showing inside my "C:" or in any other folders. Can the command line commands be broken down so I get a better idea of what went wrong? Edit to add: I'm running Arch Linux with the Xfce4 desktop, with a clean install yesterday. -

GUIDE Clarification requested for Enhanced Lights and FX

The detailed instructions for this mod say that only the meshes will be used. It also gives instructions to disable the esp files. No mention is made of the textures. Do we leave them or should we hide the texture folder? -
FEEDBACK v2.2.0 - Feedback & Bug Reports
Badfrog88 replied to z929669's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
Is there a specific reason why this is no longer recommended? I backed up my cleaned vanilla and CC esms and was just going to add those on my next build and I just want to make sure that won't cause any issues. -
Can I safely ignore this (and any other "ENB" mods) if I'm not going to use and ENB?

Hidden files, folders, and esps. Why?
Badfrog88 replied to Badfrog88's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
Thank you for the prompt reply. I'll start looking more closely in the forums this install. I'm wanting to better understand the process so I can make more informed decisions if/when I want to deviate from the guide. -
I'm sure this is explained somewhere, but I've failed to find anything doing a search. I've followed the STEP guides for Skyrim for several installs without question. The only exception is I have always skipped anything regarding ENB as I don't use one. During my current reinstall, I've been wondering the reasoning as to why certain files and folders are hidden and certain esp files are moved to "optional". My guess for the esp is that the guide is only using the "loose" files, but I'm not sure what is in the esp that isn't wanted/needed. The same for files & folders. Are they hidden because they deviate too much from vanilla and are not overwritten by other files or are there other reasons? As an example, before I found STEP I always used "cabal's cut" when choosing the aMidianBorn armors. I've never taken the time to really look to see what the diffenences are between this and the sellection recomennded by step. I guess what I'm really asking is there a reason other than astectics that certain files, folders, and esps are hidden/disabled?

New Issue with SSE Display Tweaks after a Clean Reinstall
Badfrog88 replied to Badfrog88's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
Thanks. I thought I had run BethINI already, but it had a very high screen resolution. Rerunning the recommended BethINI setup fixed the issue. -
This is weird, since I haven't had this issue before. After a clean install and only installing the "Extenders" mods I ran the prelimiary test and the opening Bethesda logo is HUGE and displaying in the lower left corner of my monitor. At the menu screen, the Skyrim logo is the same. I have to enter console mode and qqq to exit. I've checked my ini file and I can't figure out what is causing this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Step Skyrim Special Edition Guide v2.1.0 When I try to harvest wheat in the farms, It indicates "Steal" instead of "Harvest". Does anyone know what mod makes this change? I thought it might be USSEP, CACO, or CCOR but that doesn't appear to be the case. Thanks, Kent EDIT: I found the offending mod, Skyrim Landscape and Water Fixes, and discovered I was using an older version of the mod. Updated problem fixed.

Thank you for the clarification, and that was exactly why I was asking. I’m going to begin my reinstall tomorrow.

The System Setup Guide shows the file structure as: C:\Modding C:\Modding\Tools Then under Steam Installation shows C:\Games. This thread seems to indicate the file structure should be: C:\Games\ C:\Games\Modding C:\Games\Modding\Tools with Steam being installed into the Games folder. Am I understanding this correctly?

OK, That makes sense. So we are only getting the looks and not the actual FX which is being provided by another mod? Correct?
-
I'm trying to learn the reasons why certain things are done when modding the game and this is a situation where I haven't been successful in finding an answer yet. Why are the plugins for certain mods disabled - moved to "Optional ESPs" in MO2? Enhanced Lights and FX being a prime example. How does one know when this can be safely done? Is it just trial and error or is there something about the mod contents that gives a hint? Thanks.
-
Thanks, that makes sense.

I'm just curious as to why the mod group seperators begin with "02" and not "01". Was something removed and the numbering not updated?

Following a clean re-install of Skyrim AE, I've been reinstalling the Step Guide and had intended to include everything. Because of this I have installed the ENB options in all the steps prior to Post Processing. Now I'm not so sure I want to install/run an ENB with this build. Is it safe to jump to Step 05 or do I need to remove and reinstall the mods with the Post Processing (blue) flag? I am getting between 91-115 FPS in Riften with my new 144 Hz monitor.
-
On the SSE Display Tweaks nexus page under Optional Files it says Since my monitor is only 60 Hz and doesn't have g-sync, should I *not* install this part of the mod?
-
OK. it is a 60 Hz monitor. I'll look for the instructions.
-
I'm not sure if my monitor is 144 Hz or not. How would I check? I don't remember the guide saying anything about different monitor refresh rates. I'll take a look at the instructions as you suggest.
-
I'm getting consistant FPS between 136 and 141 FPS (mostly 141 FPS) after setting BethINI to Ultra and enabling LOD. At this point I'm not sure what to do to get my FPS down to the recommended 90-100 range. At the main screen the FPS stays around 59-60. Also, when the screen changes from the opening screen to Breezehome I get an "VM Overstressed" message that flashes below the FPS counter in the Display Tweaks OSC. This also happens when I use the console to change locations. I'm completely lost as to how to fix these.
