Soooo... with the update to this that just happened adding in the presumed STEP Female Body Replacer - does the 'Install for Step' option add that to the installed list of mods, Sparrow?

Sorry guys why are we complaining about the 3D grass now? This mod has been out months and months, with dedicated threads here, where I explain the downsides of this method. The harsh wall edge (I also confirmed to people in a few threads) was because you can't soften normals along the edges where two seperate meshes meet. They are not connected. If you don't like the 3D grass or the hand-painted/sourced/3D derived textures, just use the normal version with any textures you desire.  ::):

By the way the 3D grass is shorter in the central area of Whiterun. I just wanted to share that attention to detail no one would ever notice.  :;):

Shadriss, no reason to update? If you want to play with the new bodies, why not? And have you seen Crabalot's new bling?! ::P:

Hey guys I know you don't use my rocks, but I have been trying and failing to make something that fits Skyrim. Because Skyrim is Skyrim I can't pack as much detail into the textures as I like so I usually end up gutting a lot of things like shadows out or actually listening to requests which make the damn thing too dark. Now sorry for this weird image with some kind of solar flare sun on it, but I'm trying to assume how most people play the game - with weird ENBs. I won't to know bar the colour palette, if anyone thinks that fits okay? The rock texture I assimilated from my own photo of a rock and I added a sort of scrape effect with highlights. To the bunker!

Edit: Vaniila shot that is kinda' bugging out:

Just want to know if it's fitting. You can add opinions if you wish.

I would say no. The mountains of Skyrim are rough and dangerous terrain. Your Rock mod smooths them out too much for my personal tastes and with the right ENB Preset, they can even look "cartoon-ish" due to what the ENB is doing with sharpening and smoothing. The color in the vanilla shot is spot on, though. I don't know what ENB you're using but if you're wanting to balance it better, use one of the more rounded ENB Presets like Realvision or Vividian. Personally, for the time being I'm using ELEP with a few extra effects turned on. I don't think there are that many people using highly saturated and vibrant Presets like that because you'll notice on Nexus they aren't as popular as others.

Are you saying vanilla is okay then? Not sure what that ENB is, but it's certainly messed up, so you can disregard it. I'm only taking screenshots with it, just because. I feel the rocks are more rugged myself. They might feel a bit cartoony because of the chisel effect, but I have been taking my inspiration from Naughty Dog, so rightly so.

Edit:

By the way I made this by hand because no way does a normal map thrown on top of a photo look better:

Sorry Gamwich and MannyGT.

I'd agree that the images look too smooth.

Is that something to do with scale? ie. a rock's surface at a distance of a metre looks fine but if it is used for mountain sides viewed from 100's of metres it looks out of place?

But frankly any attempt to make rocks/mountains look better is good in my books.

Thanks Grant. The image on my TV looks much more rough and ridged than my lappy screen. I think the backlight really helps. I can make it rougher and give it more depth, but the LOD lighting just just looks super dark and extreme then. I'm not sure what to do? Should I make the edges sharper or what? If you guys like the colours though, that's great.

This texture is only 2k by the way. No idea if it's a scale thing, but that mountain face there is quite large.

Edit: Well I took the advise, bumped the depth up, added a new lively detail layer, and then slightly sharpened the normals. It looks better for sure. I guess I was worried experimenting too much might give bad results.
