Ugh...

  • "Polling causes save bloat. Don't use polling."
  • "Dynamically attaching scripts causes CTDs. Tell modders to rewrite their scripts."
  • "Bashed patches do bad things that bashed patches cannot possibly do. Avoid bashed patches."
  • "Mods that have scripts degrade the game's performance. Don't download mods that have scripts."
  • "TES5Edit corrupts plugins. Avoid cleaning your mods."
  • "I upgraded to a new version of some mod and now the mod doesn't work. What? Troubleshoot? Nobody else had to troubleshoot! Don't even try identifying the problem."
  • "Papyrus errors are harmless. Ignore any errors you see in the log."
  • "LOOT sorts my mods in a way that I'm not used to seeing. Don't use LOOT."

I just... I don't even... I'm going to focus on my mods from now on.

All the Staff feels that pain! Haha! Here lately very little has gone into development as about 90% of our time seems to being spent on the Troubleshooting Forums since the release. Though, that's to be expected with a jump in our member count which has increase by ~200 in the last two months or so.

My main focus was the Female Overhaul and I had to learn a lot about texturing for that. Once the Overhaul got into a Beta state and was ready for testing I shifted into getting the Pack stuff jump started (which seems to have worked). Now I need to learn some more wiki coding to be more useful there (DY is doing a great job though). Been doing a lot of learning here lately...which I still haven't jumped into learning TES5edit to help EssArrBee out with patching stuff yet. All this while working a full-time job...

Hey tech, just remember when you want help learning tes5edit, write down whatever you want to ask, then go outside and don't bother me. ::P:

No problem! Thanks for the advice! I'll stare at the clouds until I have an epiphany and then return to share my new found knowledge with the world.

It seems that it's time to thank all of you who selflessly spend out of your precious time to help anonymous people like me.

For the eternally disaffected i challenge them to do something ... for free... and useful for the (gaming) society.

For those who edit the guides on the wiki:

  • if you add detail to cover some of the questions that are likely to be asked often the complaint is that the guide is too long,
  • if you keep the instructions very concise, the questions answered in the detailed instructions are asked many times.

I work in electronics repair. I've heard similar sort of things there, believe me. So i can share your pain in a reflected sense.

I repaired electronics in the Army, and OH BOY, lemme tell ya about having to acquire a knack for explaining sh*t barney style, and even then that was not enough. The one thing I remember having the hardest and most commonly ridiculous complaints, was night vision goggles, and stupid joe's  not pulling out there batteries when storing them, always had to repair battery compartments cause of battery corrosion and even at times batteries the caused major damage from exploding (after the Army itself caught on to this and got sick of having to replace whole housing's and made the battery compartment modular from the rest of the housing, lol, sorta helped.). And even having class time with -10 manual was pointless, and would show them that the manual puts in a note box about 30 times in relation to batteries, replacing them, not mixing different types, and taking them out after use (that was pointed out the most). LOL (end rant), so yeah I can relate to being exhausted from dealing with pure laziness and complacency, RTFM!

You can't cure stupidity, Fire. For clarity, let me give you definitions of ignorance and stupidity.

Ignorance is a simple case of no information. This can be cured.

Stupidity is willful ignorance. Chronic Ignorance, if you will.

Most of the things you listed are simple cases of one or the other. If they bothered to check their subjects, they'd find out the real answers and stop leaving us and other end users with bad info. That hasn't changed in the last twenty years at least, so yeah - help where their own ignorance will allow it, and ignore those with chronic ignorance.

This thread is walking a fine line with some of the comments (even though they're not calling out anyone specifically). Ranting is fine, but lets make sure we keep it on the right side of that line.

I had a friend that did customer support for Dell for a little while.

He used to tell me some horror stories about it. One in particular was hilarious.

-phone call-

My Friend> Hello, welcome to Dell Computer's customer service, how can I help you?

Woman> I can't get to the internet.

Friend> I'm sorry to hear that. What browser are you using?

Woman> The blue E thingy.

Friend> Alright ma'am can you please double click the Internet Explorer icon for me.

Woman> Well...the screen is black right now.

Friend> ? Your screen is completely black right now?

Woman> Yes.

Friend> All right ma'am can you try pushing the power button on the monitor a few times and see if the monitor responds.

Woman> Ok.

-few mins go by-

Friend> Ok ma'am did the monitor turn on?

Woman> No.

Friend> Ok ma'am is this a Dell monitor?

Woman> Yes.

Friend> Allright ma'am can you try turning the computer off for a few minutes.

Woman> Ok.

-few more mins go by-

Friend> Alright ma'am can you go ahead and turn the computer back on.

Woman> Ok.

Friend> Did the monitor turn on now?

Woman> No. The screen is still black.

Friend> Hmmm. Can you try unplugging the Monitor and plugging it back in for me?

-this is the punchline, so Im going to hide it so you dont skip ahead-

Woman> The power in my house is out right now. Does that matter?
