Kelmych Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Skyrim performance and crash prevention mod does periodic buffer cell clearing. It is based on a mod used in Fallout New Vegas. I haven't tried it yet but I will be looking at it.
torminater Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 sounds interesting, but this guy really is not the most experienced modder, and he's fiddeling around with some real sensitive stuff there...
Farlo Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 sounds interesting' date=' but this guy really is not the most experienced modder, and he's fiddeling around with some real sensitive stuff there...[/quote']That was my first thought, I can't imagine it's a good idea to port a mod like this into a different game, much less a different engine. LeetMiniWheat Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Yeah It looks promising in the future but seems very much like an alpha or beta test. "playing for 5 hours without a crash" is not really saying much. My first thought was how many scripts this mod was gonna break under the hood without even realizing it.
LeetMiniWheat Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 From what I understand, I think it just uses the PCB command.PCB This will free up used memory, often times increasing fps after any given amount of time in game. Best used while in interior cells. However, since it purges cached cells, any cells you visited in the recent past will have to be reloaded completely when reenteredThe OCS author apparently doubts whether this function still works or not Edit: There's some threads suggesting that Skyrim uses a different memory management system (according to beth), so this command may not behave as expected like it did in earlier games (oblivion, FO3, etc) Edit2: and another quote "questionable and game-breaking purges while running a live game that potentially destroy in-game content that you might need"' Edit3: and people are saying alt-tab'ing back and forth will save more memory than this command does
bitdman Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I'm using it. It seems to be doing good for at least the first few hrs and around whiterun.
