Kuldebar Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Bannered Mare Inn Rooms by Nord Kitten "Whiterun is meant to be the trade hub of skyrim, all main roads lead to Whiterun in one way or another, so why is it, that the bannered mare only has two rooms? One of which having a completely run down hay bed? This mod fixes that problem. This mod fixes this by adding a second floor with a balcony around the fire, upgrading the bottom floor room, and adding 3 more bedrooms on the top floor. only slightly altering the room you rent." -NordKitten================================================================================ Have to say, I always thought the Bannered Mare was ridiculously small scale for a "big city" inn. The adding of a complete 2nd floor is a great idea without going full TARDIS. I'm playing with this mod installed, will report my observations, etc. I'm very impressed, I'd think the redesigned layout was part of the official game if I didn't know any better. It works well and doesn't seem forced, the biggest change is the stairs you use to go to your room are facing the opposite way. -NPC's do use the stairs, without issue, so they won't be stranded on one floor..-NPC banter and pathing was smooth, normal with no glitching.-Bottom floor is virtually untouched. Here is an initial peek at the new floor as you come into the inn via the front door: Here are the stairs that lead to the 2nd floor: At the top of the stairs is a nice landing that leads to five rooms, one of which is for you to rent: Two rooms down across from your room: A view downstairs to the boisterous common room: Ah, finally, some relative peace and quiet! Your room awaits: I'm filing this mod as a keeper. Here is a final shot so you can get a better feel for the nifty solution for adding space used by NordKitten: In the picture above, you will note the area above on either side of the firepit. Garfink Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Looks nice but how does it play with ELE and Relighting Skyrim? or for others ELFX? @Kuldebar You my friend are a mod monster! Edited May 28, 2014 by Garfink
Kuldebar Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 I use Relighting Skyrim and two modules from ELE: ELE-FX Emittance and ELE Plugin - RS Light Color v0.0.37 I choose this as my lighting solution so I can avoid all the silly problems other people have with compatibility. Lighting in the Bannered mare was indeed fine. :)
Garfink Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) I too use those exact mods including the ELE torches plugin. Nice to know. Its not a little claustrophobic now in the banner mare? Edited May 28, 2014 by Garfink
Kuldebar Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) No, I was initially worried at first but when I entered, the only area being "closed" off are the two sides above the fire pits, before that it was all empty/wasted space. Also, you don't have NPC's walking through your rented room to get to the balcony anymore! Yay! Edited May 28, 2014 by Kuldebar
phryxolydian Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Nice find. Hopefully it's not incompatible with either RRRE or DoW, I'll report back. I always thought that, being Whiterun what it is, it's inn was perhaps even worse than any village inn. Probably something (don't ask me what!) to do with Whiterun being the first city most players visit and Breezehome being worth 5k and Proudspire Manor 20k.
Kuldebar Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 RRRE or DoW? I use Realistic Room Rental Lite...the full version adds stuff so it could be a problem right? DoW...what is that...oh Dawn of Whiterun...yeah that is all exterior to the Inn isn't it?
phryxolydian Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Yep. Hmm yeah RRRE does change things. Well then.. next playthrough!
rootsrat Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Is the exterior changed at all? Is the new floor an additional floor, or does it utilise the existing space? Sorry, I can't tell very well from the screens. If it's adds a completely new floor, the exterior should reflect that IMO.
Kuldebar Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) No changes to exterior and it's even compatible with that monstrosity called Open Cities. :) The "new" floor is really just the same second floor with added floor space. Instead of having all this open space, NordKitten just extended the existing 2nd floor area over the entire common room, leaving the area above the firepit open, as one would expect. it works really well and isn't TARDIS. redirishlord Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Another great find! Definitely one of those things I didn't know was bothering me, until it was pointed out, of course the trading city's inn should be larger. I use ELFX, so I'll be on the lookout for lighting issues (sounds like there is one in the ground floor room?). I'll let you know what I think once I get to Whiterun (starting a new playthrough, wait for it ... using MO. Me no use BAIN? Crazy right?). 1
