Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

Finally I can see my house from here

You know the price for my mods: blood, sweat and tears. Oh, and your first born.

If you want to help other authors of quality mods then donate to them directly.

For latest information and instructions see the DynDOLOD 2.18 UPDATE POST

What is this?

DynDOLOD is a set of tools based on TES5Edit and TES5LODGen to automatically create a Skyrim mod based on the load order which adds distant LOD for objects to Skyrim. By combining DynDOLOD with TES5LODGen users can create drastically enhanced traditional static LOD plus tree LOD and the new, optional dynamic distant object LOD in a few 'simple' steps.

DynDOLOD is meant for enthusiast modders who are familiar with using TES5Edit. Enthusiast modders have a general knowledge of computers, folders and files, especially Skyrims 'Data' folders and how to install mods safely with a manager or manually.

To fully expand the visual experience and use the additional features offered by TES5LODGen the DynDOLOD package comes with over 1000 new or updated LOD models for objects that were badly missing from the original game like the Skyhaven Temple or landscape features like roads, smaller rocks and dirt cliffs that simply make the distant landscape look much more natural and alive.

What does it do?

It makes Skyrim look like this

Well that explains that - that folder is completely empty. Weird... so, so weird. It seems none were generated. How can that be? I should mention I haven't had this problem with version 1.33 that I used before this (been away from Skyrim awhile).

Also there is no LODgen.log generated for some reason.

Any idea what went wrong?

Edit: I should mention it is ONLY Tamriel world that hasn't had objects generated - all other (and there are quite a few) have had them generated.

Make sure to get the latest xEdit and LODGen.exe which is included. If the logfile/folder is empty LODGen.exe probably exited early or crashed. There should be a pop-up if it crashes so that shouldn't really go unnoticed.

Check that TES5Edit\Edit Scripts\LODGen_Tamriel.txt contains some data (compare to files for other worldspace)

Search TES5Edit\TES5Edit_log.txt for "Saving objects LOD data to ... " and check the following lines see if anything pops up.

Hi

I hoping for some help translating an error message that appears in my DynDOLOD MCM after an (apparetly) successful installation. The error is...

dyndolod_tamriel_objects.json does not belong to this dyndolod.esp.
dyndolod active world tamriel.

I've read the FAQ and found this...

Q: Skyrim: *.json does not belong to this DynDOLOD.esp

A: Update the TES5Edit script files to the same version as the DynDOLOD.esp and the papyrus scripts. Make sure the *.json files and DynDOLOD.esp are in sync from the same generation process.

... which seems to describe the issue, but I have no idea what it means. I read through the documentation and watched the STEP installation video several times... including having it playing while I progressed through the installation step by step (as it were). I even uninstalled everything (again, IAW the directions, vids, etc) and tried the install again with the same result. Before doing so I made sure that I had the latest of everything, including all the prerequisite installations (TES5Edit, SKSE, Mod Organizer, Papyrus, etc).

So first, can someone tell me what this error message means? Is it harmless or do I need to do something to correct it? What, if anything, is missing or not working correctly because of this?

And if it does need to be corrected in order to achieve the intended playing experience, how would I go about doing that?

Thanks in advance...

I've had that error for the past couple of days.

You need to update Tes5edit 3.1.2, newest Dyndolod and use the scripts Sheson links to, and replaces them in the dyndolod mod folder after you have installed it. Made it go away for me. However, can't make create objects for Tamriel world - so I have other issues now. But I fix'ed the error you're getting.

Apparently it doesn't save tamriel objects. I have tried twice more only running Tamriel world space - no success. Now I've downloaded the official TES5edit from the nexus, and replaced the experimental edition Sheson has linked to in his update. Reinstalled Dyndolod and running the whole process again,

Get the updated papyrus scripts, they will most likely fix the error.

The xEdit 091115 and the current TES5Edit 3.1.2 uploaded 10 November 2015 are the same version. But generally always download the newer xEdit with the latest LODGen.exe as the requirements of DynDOLOD instruct.

If something goes wrong creating the export file TES5Edit\Edit Scripts\LODGen_Tamriel.txt for LODGen.exe there should be some kind of error messages in TES5Edit\TES5Edit_log.txt. Upload it somewhere for me to have a look.

I can't find any errors in the LODGen_Tamriel.txt. I've tried again with a fresh install of Dyndolod and TES5Edit - no joy. Everything else is created just fine, but the meskes/terrain/tamriel/objects is still empty. I'll share the text via google - putting in a spoiler tag kills this page.

And the second is the Tes5edit log

And the second is the Tes5edit log

It makes no sense that TES5Edit\LODGen_log.txt is empty. It is deleted when the process starts and then log lines for each world are appended to it. There should be at least those lines from the former worlds if there were *.bto created for them

LODGen.exe is a command prompt window that is started once for each world when the lines

are printed.

Bring it to the foreground and see what it prints to the command prompt window. Screenshot any error message

I'll try - but those command windows open and close rather quickly... which of course might be part of the problem.

The sad part is - right now vanilla Skyrim has more distant LODs than I've been getting with Dyndolod these last couple of tries. I know what your program is capable of - and I want it back :-)

Open a windows command prompt, for example in windows 7, click start, and type cmd into the search.

If you use MO, you need to add C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe to its list of executables and start it from within MO so it can access all BSA and other files.

Once the white on black command prompt window is up, copy and paste this line

"D:\Games\TES5Edit 3.1.2-25859-3-1-2\Edit Scripts\LODGen.exe" "D:\Games\TES5Edit 3.1.2-25859-3-1-2\Edit Scripts\LODGen_Tamriel.txt"  --dontFixTangents --removeUnseenFaces --skyblivionTexPath

You can paste by clicking the c:\ icon in the title bar, select Edit>, then paste - or if quick edit mode is set in the properties, just click right mouse button when the prompt window is active.

Then hit enter to execute. Now it should stay open and give plenty of time to read anything.

Well having watched for the last hour, I can now say with certainty that LODgen is not run for/or crashes immediately when running for Tamriel world space. It is run normally for all other world spaces. Why might this be? I didn't manage to see an error message - it was only open for at fraction of a second. The other had all this LOD 16/8/4 reducing triangles stuff +  end of log.

Might it be a matter of too many esps changing the Tamriel world space?

Okay - will try again with only the Tamriel worldspace

Edit - was I supposed to run Dyndolod and TES5edit once more with the window open?

Because just pressing execute give me the following error message: file not found d:\grid\steamapps\common\skyrim\data\meshes\dbm resources\architecture\roofgable1.nif

That did it! Thanks Sheson! Now I'll just have to run the whole thing again so the jsons belong to the same run (that's important - right?).

One single nif missing derails the whole thing. Something to keep in mind.

Quick question:

Performance issues aside...

Would modifying each rule in a particular rule set to use the full model in LOD4 eliminate most of the pop-in as the ugrids are loaded?

Technically yes, except for the TREE objects like bushes, animated meshes and light sources. But performace wise it would be even worse than setting ugrids to 15 probably.
