A Real Explorer's Guide to Skyrim

The worst that could happen is that you'll have some misplaced/floating lights. You can most likely copy the XCLL values of ELFXEnhancer.esp in a new esp file (right-click column header of 3dnpc.esp and copy as override into new file. then drag the stuff from elfxenhancer.esp) and maintain the 3dnpc.esp in the boss default load order. You can then BUM the new esp to be sorted in the load order right after elfxenhancer. Just make sure you don't copy over any other stuff, in particular NPC records, navmeshes etc.

As much as it pained me to do so, I dropped Hunterborn, Frostfall, and Realistic Needs and Diseases from my load order......  Basically, I was trying to play two different games at the same time...one that was about survival in a harsh world, and the other one about unadulterated white-knuckle combat.  I decided to cut out one of those and focus on the other, and I do not regret it.

Wow! That's a tough call. I've never considered that as I would list those mods (well similar anyway HB plus iNeed, Hypothermia) as essential. BUT now that you mention it I have added all the quest mods from REGS and haven't been able to finish any of them. Most I haven't even started! I'm spending too much time camping, cooking, eating, sleeping, etc. Incredibly immersive but I am getting nowhere, barely finishing quests, getting bored and then start a new character. I think a new playstyle is needed..... Thanks for the tip, I think a lightbulb just turned on somewhere!

Weird.  I also had removed Enhanced Blood Textures, Deadly Spell Impacts, and Burn Freeze Shock effects to improve script latency.  Something about the combination of those three was playing hell on my script lag, so I just axed all 3.

Noobzor, I'd be interested if you use Wet & Cold, or did you remove that too? The reason I ask is that I clicked on a guard with the console open and he had all the breath and footsteps scripts running (about 6 I think) which makes me wonder about performance. I don't have any issues at the moment. But all those scripts on every NPC....

 

Also do you use Deadly Monsters? I'm thinking of giving that a run. But not sure if Sands of Time would be better....

I do still use Wet and Cold, because I really like Wet and Cold - Holidays (holidays are fun :) ), and I am also still using Footprints.  But, those are the next two on the chopping block if I need to squeeze out any more script performance.

 

Here is my current load order.  I tend to merge compatibility patches, and make my own compatibility patches, and merge a lot of minor things together, so you may not recognize some of these.  Those things are pretty inconsequential to the loadout, though...mostly just flavor:

As far as combat, I basically just have a few mods that add baddies to the game (OBIS, SIC, MM), a few things that make some enemies things harder (DCO, DD), and then Duel.  The real kicker is ASIS to crank up the spawns and distribute perks and spells.  I am also currently playing on Adept difficulty and using SkyTweak and Deadly Monsters to make things more difficult, because I don't like the way difficulty level scaling works by default.
 
It can definitely get a lot more intense than this...but this is about as much as I can handle at my age. :)  I'm not a young gamer anymore.
 
I tried Sands of Time and also Revenge of the Enemies, and I didn't care for them.  Revenge of the Enemies made way too many edits to NPC records to accomplish what could be done in a much simpler manner, and Sands of Time changed the nature of the game too much for my tastes (by adding all kinds of crazy random encounters all over the place).  Deadly Monsters just gives you an MCM with some sliders to tweak the difficulty of existing monsters without actually changing what spawns or where.  SkyTweak has a lot of similar options as well.

I'm also using Footprints & Wet & Cold (& Ashes, & Holidays) with SIC/HLE, Skytest, and DCO/DD as well as Deadly Monsters. My DD/DM aren't doing much currently (just making important npcs essential) as I'm low level, later I'll use their MCM to up difficulty (although I'll probably stay away from DD's assault mode, weird spawns I here, like inside SkyHaven).

 

In other news, I just finished Ogmunds Tomb and really liked it. Felt like a big vanilla bandit/draugr dungeon in a good way. Fits fine with ETaC, no conflicts. Great lighting and atmosphere with Serenity ENB. Can't wait to play the author's other 2 dungeon mods (installed, just need to find & explore).

 

* my load order is located in this thread along with my merged plugins. re-checking my merged plugins for errors really helped stability and performance, check out the thread for more on that.

Another quick question for you since I see you use CCOR. I've just started using Wrye Bashed patches (newbie stuff, I know) and my bandits have 3 weapons each and sometimes 2 sets of armor. I read somewhere that CCOR uses a different method to place weapons on NPC's so i am wondering if I am doing something wrong with the bashed patch. Is there a trick to it?

It was Double You that set me straight on how to check the merged patches, the exit & re- error check revealed a bunch that I wasn't seeing with the quick & dirty check.

I don't think I've seen that behavior with bandits, but maybe OBIS/OBIS Redone is confusing the issue, it adds/modifies their equipment. If want to know more about bashed patches I think EssArrBee is a wizard at those, well better than me anyway. I did just notice that my Whiterun Hold Guards are not wearing their Improved Closefaced Helmets (legendary WAF CCF version), I haveen't noticed that with other versions.

I don't miss the survival mods, if I'm in that kind of mood I'll play Fallout New Vegas in hardcore mod (checkout EssArrBee's Fear & Loathing in New Vegas Guide if you have the notion). I'm looking forward to Predrag Pesics frost spider themed dungeon next, that should be creepy.

That spider mod sounds cool. He is a quality dungeon designer so wear the brown pants when exploring :)

 

I've only played FNV on console and the ending left me cold. I might have to try the modded PC version when I can tear myself away from Skyrim. It can go on the long list of steam downloads I've never played....

Of course I missed the first question. No, I let MO 1.2.4 manage my BSA files. I've arranged my mods install order to avoid unwanted conflicts, MO has offered (and I accepted) a guided fix to supersede that order to avoid script conflicts. I know I can use the data pane/tab to hide certain conflicts, but I haven't ventured down that OCD rabbit hole, yet.

 

As for FNV, if you're ever in the mood to dust off your exisitng download, check out EssArrBee's F&L pack for it. Otherwise, happy dragon slaying, good luck storming the castle (watch out for R.O.U.S. goes without saying of course).

As far as combat, I basically just have a few mods that add baddies to the game (OBIS, SIC, MM), a few things that make some enemies things harder (DCO, DD), and then Duel.  The real kicker is ASIS to crank up the spawns and distribute perks and spells.  I am also currently playing on Adept difficulty and using SkyTweak and Deadly Monsters to make things more difficult, because I don't like the way difficulty level scaling works by default.
 
It can definitely get a lot more intense than this...but this is about as much as I can handle at my age. :)  I'm not a young gamer anymore.
 
I tried Sands of Time and also Revenge of the Enemies, and I didn't care for them.  Revenge of the Enemies made way too many edits to NPC records to accomplish what could be done in a much simpler manner, and Sands of Time changed the nature of the game too much for my tastes (by adding all kinds of crazy random encounters all over the place).  Deadly Monsters just gives you an MCM with some sliders to tweak the difficulty of existing monsters without actually changing what spawns or where.  SkyTweak has a lot of similar options as well.

You might consider the SIC / HLE integrated package, should give you some unique bosses within SIC's spawn framework.

You might also consider Automatic Variants with the SIC / SkyTEST wildlife integration, I'm enjoying that quite a bit. By limiting my AV packs to a reasonable level (just Bellyache's & StarX's right now) I'm not noticing a performance or stability hit.

I prefer ACE / Deadly Combat to Duel, but otherwise I'm picking up what you're putting down.
