Hey everyone,

I recently decided to get into modding Skyrim SE again, after a few years away from the modding scene, and remembered having a lot of success with the STEP Guide (a lot of thanks for the amount of time and expertise that has always been put into these guides).

Unfortunately, I've run into the problem that a mod "Consistent Older People" has been set to hidden as of August 1st, due to some recent controversy on Nexus Mods, that I'm unfortunately not that informed about. Sadly, this seems to be one of the mods required by the Step CR Patch. Therefore, I seek advice about what to do from here. While I respect Winterlove's decision to make it hidden on Nexusmods, is it possible that there is a download mirror somewhere?  If not, does anyone have a .zip of the newest version that they might be able to send me? Or should I give up on the guide for now, hoping that the mod might become unhidden again in the near future? Maybe a way to bypass the requirement?

Any advice is appreciated.

Regards, MadOak

@TechAngel85 Has maintained the CR Patch for the current SE guide, so I will defer to him to resolve the requirement.

I recommend continuing the install as normal, and we should have things resolved by the time you have everything installed.

Looks like the author is unhappy with Nexus' new policy of never deleting files but rather archiving them instead ... which makes no sense at all if authors can hide their mod pages, effectively 'deleting' all of the files at least until the mod page is unhidden.

Patch is up.

Thanks Tech!

Do we still have it in the guide? Probably should note that it is unavailable, but those that have it should use patch v1.02 while those that do not should use 1.03. I suspect the file will be unhidden at some point.

I reached out to winterlove, and he has made the mod available on AFK Mods. Caveat is that you need to register on their forums to obtain it. I have offered to host as wel, so we'll se.

In the meantime, here's the link:

https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/files/file/2301-consistent-older-people/

Not sure if Slyrim LE/SE both use same file or not, but this one is definitely SE

Yeah, my guess is most of the authors that pull their mods because of this will upload somewhere else. There will be a few that don't. ...really dislike parlor modding, but what can you do.

Nexus wants to have their cake and eat it too. On the one hand, they are outwardly such advocates for PI and parlor concepts, but on the other, they don't want MAs pulling content and are basically claiming rights to any work that is uploaded ... forever.

They either need to adopt the cathedral concept and adjust their policy to reflect that or adopt the parlor concept and stick with their current policy, less the inability for MAs to delete their content.

I think they have opened the door to competitors now. Watch all kinds of mods get pulled down in the coming weeks. Thanks Nexus!

Nexus is only copying the EULAs that are already in place by ZeniMax/Microsoft, who can already take the mods and do as the please with them. Most are simply unaware of that fact. IMO, Nexus would have be be Parlor just to cover themselves legally. They could opt to have a Cathedral stance, but at the expense of losing thousands of authors who don't align with Cathedral modding. They support over 1000 games now so that is a lot of loss. Unfortunately, Cathedral modding is the minority these days. The old days of it ruling the scene is long over.

Today is the deadline to submit requests so I guess we'll see how many come down over the next few weeks as the requests are fulfilled.

Arthmoor's profile page indicates that we may need to check AFK mods for updated versions of some of his mods. There is also indication that other competing services may come to fruition. Competition may be a very good thing in the long run.

Yeah, Nexus has had a very comfortable monopoly on mod hosting for a very long time. I think they shot themselves in the foot a bit with this one. However, they are probably aware of this and is one of the "behind the scenes" reasons the subscription changes happened too. No more Lifetime Subscriptions; only reoccurring payments. This will help keep the money rolling in, even if they do lose some "big names".

Could be good long term, but very disruptive in shorter term.

Yes, more money short term, but as they lose mods, fewer people will be interested in paying. They will need to give more control to MAs to delete their files. That was a decision that will forever haunt them. These other services will allow MAs to control every aspect of their files.

Not strange he hate this concept, when you think how he hate that Skyrim VR need older version of USSEP.

He actively looks for and report DMCA to any hosting site with copy of 4.12 version of ussep.

With cathedral concept he wont be allowed to do this on nexus.
