Painstouch Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Discussion thread:Improved Horse Step Sounds by CrystanWiki LinkA sound mod, that brings another level of immersion into the game. Being able to hear on which terrain your horse is stomping and galloping around is definitely a nice addition. The mod has 1 slight issue, if outdoor, you move about, some cell transitions fail to update the sound and your horse' hooves remain silent for a second. I've ran about quite a lot and for example a path through wilderness between Riften and Iverstad, the sound would fail around 3 times, that I noticed. Then again, the mod itself is straightforward, works with any horse I came across, no issues outside the above mentioned one. Accepted for v2.2.5The *problem* with this mod is not really a problem with this mod, so it is accepted--Thanks to torminater for the detailed summary

justjr Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Why mod makers insist in make sound mods with an esp? Boomer. =/
Besidilo Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Why mod makers insist in make sound mods with an esp? Boomer. =/Umm... How else do you suggest a sound mod that differentiates sounds based on the type of surface?

rootsrat Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Bump. I think it's worth testing, so just setting kind of a reminder for myself to do that :)
Farlo Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Rootsrat, did you ever get around to testing this? I think it's worth some thought, looks pretty good.
rootsrat Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 It works good, but I sometimes get a bug, where horse steps can't be hear, especially when galloping. Not a biggie, but it can be annoying if happens a lot (and it does sometimes). However - I have minor problems with my Sound Blaster, so it may be hardware related. Other than that - no problems for me.
torminater Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Well I continuously have the issue that whilst running through Skyrim or gallopping through skyrim I don't hear any sound. I'm just using step's sound mods. I guess this might be a vanilla/engine issue, nothing the mod can do about.
CiXwOw Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I've always had that problem. I get the feeling it's an engine bug. It really does pull you out of immersion, but I doubt there's anything we can do about it.
rootsrat Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Well then I'm glad it's not my sound card going crazy :) I've got no other issues to report. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Farlo Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I'm having this issue, quite frequently as well, around Markarth. Going to try playing without it for a while and see how often the Vanilla sounds drop off.
z929669 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 @Farlo or anyone else Unless you report back the OK on this mod definitively not being the cause of the existing *issues*, this one won't make it into this weekend's release.
Omolong Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I get the bug where horse footsteps don't actually make any noise without this mod installed. The only thing I can pinpoint to possibly causing it is when the game loads a new part of the world when you're out exploring.
TechAngel85 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Looks like a winner if it's better than vanilla and isn't causing the issues (from the sounds of it, it is not). We'll need to keep an eye on Better Animal Footsteps, but right now there is no conflicts. I was surprised actually to find that Better Animal Footsteps didn't have horses.
