SMC with SRLE Extended: LotD

Recommended Posts

I was looking around the web on articles about texture resolution and most said that 4K textures aren't even noticeable on 2K monitors (my monitor is 2k with gsync), which is sometimes not true. For example, 4K tens would appear really good, but 1K or even 2K tents look like mush when up close. This is because the whole tent shares one texture. Same goes with dragons/dragon skeletons, too. So, if I were to finalize my decision, I would choose 1K/512MB textures for clutter and small, common things, 2K textures for everything else, and finally, 4K textures for very special and huge things like tents or dragon skeletons.

Exactly :D  4K for mountains/giants/dragons/tents and interiors/interior creatures, 2k for pretty much everything else.  I didn't think to mention clutter but yes pls don't have 4k or 2k tomatoes :D

If you have the VRAM to spare then 4k is still advisable for things you're liable to get up close and personal with... such as walls that you literally run up on sometimes.. like cave walls, barrow walls...  and since interiors take around 50% vram of exterios in my experience you can spare the 4K for those monsters which, if you're a melee person, you'll be up close and personal with.

It's all up to personal preference though and anytime I get 4k textures I try for 4k/2k/1k since unless you're doing screen archery you literally won't be able to tell the difference but save nicely on vram.

well i guess i am going to have to bite the bullet and start to compile all the mods needed for this.

It's not that hard actually on existing profile, if you set the texture directories for the downloaded mods you have for SRLE and LotD you'll see what mods that is combined into SMC and start disabling the mods in MO.

I'm doing a fresh install just for SMC for SRLE and LotD and it is a lot more easier to do fresh install. You can decide easily which textures you want to be overridden by SMC and sort it out.

Just an information on my experience :)

@jdsmith2816 here is the blacksmith water you asked me for in Whiterun, looks like the water is displaying correctly.

Interesting... I wonder why I get no water in my troughs.   I wonder if by fixing the NAM0 and NAM9 bounds in those files i broke it...  Having said that if it REQUIRES those giant worldspace bounds changes then it's not worth the additional stuttering it could cause.

Which ones would you prefer?

SRTO Clouds vs. Ethereal Clouds

Northfire's Photoreal Mountains vs. SRTO Mountains

The cloud choice won't really matter if you're planning on running a weather overhaul like VW. Most weather overhauls and the ENBs they're paired with rely on the specific cloudscape they were designed for due to ENB skylighting.

Having said that... I think I went with SRTO clouds and SRTO mountains.
