Following up on u/Chironspiracy's discussion about mod compatibility, I decided to create a survey to gauge how the community feels about mod compatibility. The survey has eight easy-to-answer multiple choice questions. It would be awesome if you would take the time to respond. Mod Compatibility Survey Thanks! - Mator

FOMOD - What is it, what does it stand for?
Mator replied to Fonkin's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
I just spend a lot of time on this stuff and have been gradually building up my knowledge over the years. 6 months ago I didn't have any idea how FOMODs worked. I learned the format because I needed to in order to make Mod Analyzer work. I'm not all that special, I just work hard. Thank you, though. ;) -

Ah, I didn't realize they were different. Good to know! -
Merge Plugins will not merge folders

Did you set up the MO integration with the correct Mod Organizer installation? Can you post a log, maybe? -
Alright, that'd be cool. :) I've made some good progress submitting mods. Should be able to finish things up here soon.

Also called BAINs (Bash Installers). In terms of format I'd say BAIN installers are better simply because they're simpler. I have no idea about the details of the wizard.txt though, just the standardized directory structure. -
[WIP] Mator Smash
Mator replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Mator Smash resolves conflicts based on smash settings. Unlike Bash it actually detects conflicts on a per-subrecord basis, and then handles those conflicts based on user-defined settings. The settings themselves are basically just descriptions of what to do when a conflict is detected in a subrecord. You define the settings using the setting manager. Everything is clearly explained in the video linked in the OP. -
FOMOD - What is it, what does it stand for?
Mator replied to Fonkin's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
I have some ideas, but my biggest problem is my ideas keep exploding out to be giant 6-month/year-long projects, so I need to wrangle them down to size. :) Also I have so many different projects on my plate, it's a real PITA to pick up a new one. I need a development team. -
FOMOD - What is it, what does it stand for?
Mator replied to Fonkin's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
A crappy XML-based format which allows a mod author to create a GUI from which a user can select mod options to install. It's deeply flawed but widely used. -
Fixed an issue with creating/updating reviews. Also fixed an issue with how error messages are rendered when creating a mod/review.
-
It appears to be working fine to me. Did you enter a rating for each section and enough text? You need at least 512 characters (~100 words) for your review for it to be valid. EDIT: I did find an error with review submission though, fixing that now. EDIT 2: We should have this discussion on the Mod Picker thread. :)
-
I'll look into it, thanks for letting me know.
-
Got some mods submitted. Vividian is proving to be a bit of a PITA to analyze because of all the patches (I keep missing a dependency), so I'm going to switch to working on Mod Analyzer 2 for a bit.

Alright, sounds good. I might be done by then though. :P Okay, sounds good.

[WIP] Mator Smash
Mator replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Pushed an update with SSE and FO4 support along with a number of fixes. https://github.com/matortheeternal/smash/releases/tag/0.3.1 -
Rebel47: Those are all URRs (Unresolved References). They're treated as NULL references by the game but may cause problems in certain circumstances (it's unknown). You can fix them by removing them. See my Fixing Errors YouTube video.

Introduction I'd like to create a mod list for the SRLE guide on Mod Picker. Once we have SRLE we can also get other SRLE packs set up as well. Is anyone interested in helping out? Here are the STEP forum threads about Mod Picker if you're looking for information/discussion: - Mod Picker (Republic of STEP/Mods) - [WIP] Mod Picker (Mator's Utilities Support) It would be best to post feedback on Mod Picker/feature requests in the main Mod Picker thread (the first one linked). Getting Started This will be a fair bit of work, but I think a lot of the mods that are part of SRLE are already on Mod Picker. Below is the process we'll follow to get SRLE set up on Mod Picker: Identify mods in SRLE that are not yet on Mod Picker and list them in this post. Done. Submit the missing mods. Done. Add all SRLE mods to a Mod Picker mod list. In progress... Sort the mods into groups following the SRLE guide. Select mod options for each mod. Build and sort the plugin load order. Create and adjust config file entries. The mod source page must be a proper web page for the mod. Example pages you could use: A STEP Wiki page A google site A blog post A Nexus Mods mod page A Lover's Lab mod page A Steam Workshop mod page etc. The web page should list the mod name, author, date released, and date updated. The web page should also provide a download link. The Mod List Please note the mod list is still under construction. Batch files aren't exactly user-friendly. ;)

I pushed an update to Mod Analyzer. It has some important fixes to FOMOD parsing as well as a large update to the classify archives view (which is now a screen instead of a modal). You can get it from GitHub or from the Nexus Mods page once their file servers are done processing it.

xEdit really needs a profile system like what I have for Merge Plugins/Mator Smash. :)

Thanks! I'm hoping it'll see some good use. :D TechAngel85: Regarding mod submission, I've decided I'm going to submit 10 mods/day at minimum and aim for 30 mods/day. That should allow the platform to grow at a nice continuous rate. My personal estimation is that ~5000 mods is what's needed for people to feel really comfortable using the platform. I don't know how quickly we can reach 5000, but if other users submit mods I think it's quite possible to reach it in 60 days. (that requires the submission of ~65 mods/day on average) EDIT: Reached 30 mods today (well, 10 minutes after midnight!)

It's free and already on the platform. https://imgur.com/a/e4LzR Correct. Mod List importing currently functions in a way that is pretty much 1:1 with modwatch. I think you're being extremely optimistic. While it's theoretically possible (and would be amazing), I think what we've seen in practice from the Nexus is that the rate at which they push out developments is abysmally slow. I acknowledge that there are some unknowns, but most of the people who I have talked to have suggested that the Nexus's timeline is moreso on the order of a year than a few months. Maybe they'll surprise us, but I doubt it. In regards to the website redesign specifically, I was told that I shouldn't expect it until "like a year from now" as of 3 months ago (albeit from a not-so-reliable source). If that's how far off the redesign is, then I can't imagine profile sharing is coming any time sooner (as the website redesign is a prerequisite per Robin's note about the Nexus being on feature lockdown). Again, I'm not FULLY discounting that this could happen sometime in the next few months. I wouldn't be surprised if they started pushing things out in February. As I mentioned before, it makes us unable to identify certain types of plugin errors - specifically ITMs, ITPOs, and unresolved references.

It was actually 5 minutes, but I edited a second time to make the note about emptying cache. ;)
