Merge Plugins Error on beginning Merge
Mator replied to aba42's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
I instructed you to delete the Merge Plugins profiles folder, not the Mod Organizer profiles folder... Awell. I hope reversing that update will fix things for you. -
Merge Plugins Error on beginning Merge
Mator replied to aba42's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
You can create profiles from the profile selection window, and Merge Plugins will automatically create them fresh if there are no profiles. The point of me having you delete that folder was to start with fresh profiles - putting the profiles BACK into that folder changes nothing. Please completely delete the folder and start merge plugins. The application should create the folder and some default profiles fresh. My theory is that it's either a file access issue OR you have corrupted profiles somehow. -
Merge Plugins Error on beginning Merge
Mator replied to aba42's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Yeah, delete the profiles folder and start that fresh. If you still have issues then it is without a doubt some kind of file access issue, most likely related to your Antivirus/OS. Are you on Windows 10? Also, have you tried starting Merge Plugins selecting only Skyrim.esm and Update.esm? -
To clarify my statements here, my statements were not made in the intent of passing judgement, but rather an observation that the general response of society (as I have observed it) to beliefs such as this is one of ridicule. The act of having a belief privately is not necessarily embarrassing, but when you present that belief to the public and it strongly differs from what the public considers "normal" or "mainstream" you may open yourself to embarrassing situations. The particular belief in UFOs and New Age spiritual movements are the kinds of things that leads our modern society to label people as "nutjobs". That, of course, does not make the belief necessarily false. There have been many times throughout history when the majority has been wrong (e.g. Darwin's theory of evolution, the Salem witch trials, etc). That said, I think it is important for people to recognize and understand that if they hold a belief that strongly differs from what the general public considers "normal", it may not be in their best interest to parade those beliefs out in the open. Doing so may cause them to lose the respect of their peers, or subject them to public ridicule - neither of which are particularly fun. Honestly, I think that the creation of this topic was a very naive decision of Tech's part, because it will affect how certain people in the community view him and the STEP project. Tech's personal spiritual beliefs don't really belong here on the STEP forums, and sharing them can only be detrimental to his reputation and the reputation of STEP as a whole.

Mator replied to aba42's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
try deleting/renaming your merge plugins "profiles" folder. also when you say you get the error, is that happening after you've selected a profile or before? check to make sure you don't have an invalid profile argument set for merge plugins in Mod Organizer. -
Merge Plugins Error on beginning Merge
Mator replied to aba42's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Can you try running Merge Plugins outside of Mod Organizer? Also, can you try clicking the "Verify File Access" button in the Settings Form -> Merging Tab and tell me the results? -
In my opinion, the appropriate antonym for "skeptical" is "gullible", not open. Honestly, I find it pretty lame that you and Tech have to alienate anyone from this discussion who isn't willing to assume the material is true. That's not really the basis for any kind of "discussion", so I have to wonder why this topic exists at all. It seems to me like this topic is here to have your spiritual beliefs reinforced, not questioned. That's not a "discussion" the people here are interested in participating in. This topic would better serve it's purpose on a spiritual discussion board with people who are more "open" to it.

I didn't say anything about believing in a soul. I specifically referenced "out of body experiences". I believe in souls in some sense myself, so... yeah. The thing about UFOs is it's easy to falsify "evidence". Just have a friend throw a hub cap like a frisbee and take a picture with a $2 kodak camera while it's flying by, and voila, instant UFO! Again, I refer to Occam's Razor. Which is more likely, that people create hoaxes / have vivid imaginations (something we actually have scientific evidence in support of), or that there are aliens in flying saucers flying all over the place and there's a unilateral, international government conspiracy to keep us from knowing about it? If your answer was the latter make sure you stock up on aluminum foil so you can block the alien mind control!

I also don't think they legally could do that (it's overstepping their legal authority). They might have been able to get away with it had they stated it from the start, but I don't consider it likely. What they could do, however, is add terms to the CK EULA that state that the author cannot restrict redistribution or modification of their mods (sort of like how they restrict mod authors from using mods commercially). I still don't think they should do this, because being open is a choice that has to be made, not a rule to be enforced.

Sure, that's fine. I'm willing to recognize that my verbiage might demonize the Nexus a bit, but that doesn't change the fact that what they're doing is questionable. I like having my stuff available on the Nexus, not sure if I'm quite ready to pull my files. I'm considering it though. Agreed. I totally recognize why he makes the decisions he makes, and how he thinks that he is making the best decisions for his business. That said, I don't agree. I think that "siding with the author" 100% of the time will ultimately lead to a very restrictive community, and a restrictive community is alienating both to mod users and authors. That is ultimately bad for Nexus Mods as a business, because it leads to fewer mods and fewer people modding their games. I feel like it's a common theme. I feel like Dark0ne doesn't see the big picture of how his decisions affect Nexus Mods and the modding community as a whole.

That's awesome Dubious! Thanks for putting that together! :) I'll try to make some settings for FNV and other games here soon. -
Here's the post that initially made Dark0ne decide he wanted to arbitrarily restrict all further posts I made in the thread: Here's Dark0ne's reply: Here's the post that I later made that they kept deleting: Here's my reply to Hishy's post, also deleted: Here's what I said to The Vampire Dante's post about deleting my posts: My Motivations

Also, you may be interested in actual science that shows how plants conduct electricity and produce electric fields. Conducting electricity or displaying an electrical response to certain events does not imply the plants have feelings. Rather, it implies the electric potential in the plant can be influenced in certain circumstances. https://www.livescience.com/5711-electricity-harvested-trees.html https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/30/479804121/bumblebees-little-hairs-can-sense-flowers-electric-fields

Mator replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
You have to load the master plugins, but you don't need to add them to a smashed patch in the program. I still don't think it's good practice to patch them, but there are certain very specific circumstances where it may be necessary. More research is needed. -
Because there are rational, logical arguments for a creator. Some of the most prominent are the cosmological argument, the ontological argument, and the teleological argument. There's a whole field called Natural Theology dedicated the rational, philosophical study of the existence of a creator upon the basis of natural experiences. My personal justifications for believing in the existence of a creator extend a bit further than this and I really don't care to get into them here, the long and short of it is I follow Deism. But this topic isn't about what I believe, it's about the wacky idea that some quacks channeled an 11,000 year-old alien consciousness in their backyard using a religious text, some incense, and a pitcher of water.

Also, I have to ask, are you trolling? My roommate thinks so. EDIT: Or maybe a late April fools day joke, asks his girlfriend.

I only looked at it briefly, but from what I can tell David Wilcock's stuff is a bunch of ******** pseudo-science. Typical mumbo-jumbo you can find regurgitated by anyone who follows New Age Woo. If you have to tell someone to look past the conspiracy theory tone, then what you're showing them is probably ********. Uhhh, no. It's not contradictory at all. What I stated is you cannot go into an experiment with an expectation of a particular result. I didn't say they should perform their study expecting no supernatural results, but that they should not perform it expecting supernatural results. In other words, the middle ground of having no expectation for the results. This is important because of the role of cognitive bias in how humans percieve the world. If it can't be measured then for all intents and purposes it does not exist. Also, you must either provide an explanation for why it cannot be measured, or recognize that it's made up. I don't disagree that humanity's understanding of the universe is limited in some areas, but having limited understanding does not mean we should believe every fantasy that pops into our heads. The correct approach to proceed carefully and rationally to avoid falsehoods. Truth is not an easy thing to come by, and humans are easily mislead. These are facts which can be supported by physical evidence and rational thought. As much as I'd like to believe certain things exist, I refuse to believe that people have experienced them or understand them save in the face of overwhelming evidence, per occam's razor and similar principles. There are a bunch of issues with this paragraph, I'll try to break it down. "Scientific theories are just theories". This is commonly regurgitated falsehood. A scientific theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers. One scientist cannot create a theory; he can only create a hypothesis. A layman's theory is an assumption or guess based on limited knowledge or information: hypothesis.E = mc2 has been scientifically demonstrated in numerous settings, including but not limited to the atomic bomb. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. When last I checked there weren't aliens in UFOs dropping atomic bombs on the Earth. (joke)People are EXTREMELY unreliable. They are easily influenced, their memory is selective, and cognitive bias directly interferes with their ability to percieve the world. 1, 2Scientific research does not rely heavily on people. It relies on scientific instruments to perform measurements, which the researcher records. The researcher then attempts to explain the measurements rigorously using mathematics. Ultimately, the mathematical results may lead to a conceptual explanation of what is happening in a system. I recommend you watch videos about scientific thinking and how it differs from "magical thinking".I'm sorry, but what you're peddling here is nothing more than quackery. Science IS rational thought. People who refer to it in the tone of it "not being good enough" to explain certain things don't understand that science is LITERALLY the only way to rationally explain anything in the real world. Don't get me wrong, I totally believe there are things we have not yet been able to explain with science (yet). However, I will defer judgement on these things UNTIL we have scientific evidence on them. When it specifically comes to things like UFO sightings and other supernatural "woo", we have a lot of scientific evidence that it's made up and has no basis in reality. I'm not saying that no one has ever sighted a UFO that was an alien craft, but that there isn't sufficient evidence to believe it to be so. I believe (upon the basis of the Drake equation and associated scientific ideas) that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. However, I don't think that life has visited Earth because there is no strong scientific evidence to suggest as such (and occam's razor). If it was reasonable and there was evidence for it, it would be a part of mainstream science. Anecdotal evidence which other people could recreate. The DEFINITION of science, and the scientific method, is such that it literally cannot be in the same context as this New Age Woo - they are fundamentally incompatible. Yes, scientific discovery has led to growth and change in ideas over time. As new evidence was discovered, we have discarded hypotheses which were based on weak evidence in favor of stronger ones. There is no shortage of ideas in the world, but there certainly is a shortage of correct or true ones. I am totally open to philosophical thinking, and I actually DO believe in a higher power. That doesn't mean, however, that I engage in cults, group delusions, or New Age Woo. Trust me, I have family members who have been involved with this (because they're gullible as ****). I know more than enough about this stuff, it's all just a bunch of ********. I'm totally open to (and enjoy engaging in) rational philosophical discussion or hypothetical thinking. I briefly attended a christian college and my favorite class was the religious philosophy class because of the fascinating ideas it presented (such as the cosmological argument). Also, for your information, I don't identify as athiest, agnostic, or under any major religion. I don't mind spiritual discussions, but when you start claiming there are things like ghosts or UFOs flying around, that you can get your soul to leave your body, that is when we leave the realm of what is "real" and go to a magical fairy land with no basis in reality. Put simply, I believe in the supernatural, but doubt any alleged experience of it. I don't think it's impossible for something "supernatural" to occur, but that it is extremely unlikely, and if it did happen I doubt we would ever know because the world is drowning in false supernatural information or accounts. The burden of proof lies on the believer, not the skeptic. I believe I have sufficient reasoning to believe in a higher power, and that's why I believe in it. This hoo-ha, however, is ridiculous.

I didn't upgrade to 8 or 10 because I could tell from the onset that it was just a load of trash. I'm sticking with Windows 7 as my last Windows OS. When that becomes untennable I will be switching to linux/mac. There's a good topic on STEP about Windows 10 with 23 pages of discussion here: https://forum.step-project.com/topic/8082-windows-10-overall-review-and-modding/ I like what Barnacules Nerdgasm says about Windows 10. His most recent video addresses how Microsoft is locking people out of updates for Windows 7/8/8.1 if they have a Ryzen/Kaby Lake CPU. ******* hate Microsoft and their **** W10 OS.

I had no idea what this was about, so I grabbed the first volume and started reading. Now, obviously I haven't read all of the material, but my initial reaction to it is along the lines of: -.- Unsurprisingly, I'd hope. From a scientific perspective, the most immediate issue of the first few pages is thusfold: 1. The "researchers" are proceeding forward based on unproven assumptions, and the source or reliability of their "data" hasn't been thoroughly tested. It's one thing to gather data using scientific instruments, where there is physical evidence promoting the validity of the data. Gathering data using "tuned trance telepathy" is not gathering data at all. A human test subject isn't a scientific instrument. It's extremely complex and unreliable. EDIT: Skimmed further ahead, the entire nature of their "process" is so utterly bonkers. There is no explanation for ANY part of their process, notwithstanding the fact that it is totally "bats in the belfry" cuckoo. 2. The researchers going into this had a bias to discover something supernatural. That's not how science is performed. You cannot perform good science if you go into something with an expectation of a certain result. The only way I could ever take a "scientific study of the supernatural" remotely seriously is if it was conducted by individuals with no preoccupation to find a supernatural result. This group failed that test in the first 6 pages. 3. This entire "scientific work" is nothing better than any other "UFO sighting" or whatnot. It's entirely comprised of subjective experiences - anecdotal evidence. Unless the subject you're studying is psychology (how humans think), anecdotal evidence is not sufficient to come to any sort of conclusions. No scientist or rational skeptic will consider this work (or similar works) seriously because there is no physical evidence. Honestly, I feel somewhat embarrassed for you presenting your interest in these writings publicly. While it's true that people are susceptible to things such as this, it's still concerning. Sincerely, - Mator EDIT 2: Here's some debunking of the materials: https://www.skepticforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=25205 EDIT 3: I also must admit that I came to this topic expecting it to be about the Rule of One.

Good to know Satur9. I think I have enough information. I just have to figure out why the current code isn't working properly for certain cells.
