  1. Where I compared my terrain textures, I found only that the original 152 b textures were converted to 132 b, and the alphas were messed up. I did not find any of my own 43 Kb converted to 132 b. Look at the non-HD vanilla files and compare in the DDSopt preview. Some of this corruption may not be that noticeable in game if they are rarely used or if they are not obvious.
  2. Yep, these look corrupt and shold be added to the alpha portion of the ini. Thanks ... never notice them. If you feel like making a list of all affected, we can add them. Otherwise, it may be best to exclude all terrain unless there is an advantage to processing them. We'll need to check.
  3. Why do we need to change the timescale value if STEP already includes the "travel timescale fix"?That mod corrects the disparity between the time it takes to walk to a destination and the time it takes to fast travel to that same destination. The timescale change alters the relative time difference between game time rate and real time rate (game time rate defaults to 30x real time. We suggest slowing to 10x real time.)
  4. I use timescale set at 10 as well.
  5. The following are low-level clean save games that can be used for mod testing, thereby avoiding the need to create a new character. The second set are from another source but basically offer some alternatives. Testing Save Games 1 Testing Save Games 2 The following links contain several clean save games for taking landscape screenshots from all over Skyrim under varying conditions. Use these for Mod Testing where appropriate or just to take general before/after screenshots. Screenshot Save Games 1 Screenshot Save Games 2
  6. FYI While this technique is likely adequate for testing certain aspects of a mod within the context of the raw game world, this may not be an accurate testing platform for many GMST-altering or script-based mods. Remember that char creation and movement through the first quest (i.e., NOT using Alternate Start either) sets up the true game context. Therefore, it is best to create a test save using vanilla 1) at the time just before character creation (i.e., prisoner save), 2) just after char creation (e.g., to test various aspects of race/char-related issues) and 3) just after the finish of the very first quest after the avalanche and when you first step out into Skyrim world. I created some of these testing save games. Fruitcake102 created another set of testing save games.
  7. Anyone that actively wants to commit to testing mods out with some level of regularity can be formally recognized as a mod tester ;) @ Wormheart & Freyergjurd I'll recognize both of you as such until/unless you go dark on the project for any lasting amount of time.
  8. I have verified that there is no way to get executables installed via WB, so I have clarified the detailed recommendations.
  9. I would strongly recommend removing the first line since you shouldn't force AA and AF through the control panel without very specific reasons. This will also impact on other games. Agree & done.
  10. Fixed. Thanks! We shorten names of some mods for the guide, although, admittedly I have no idea why they shorten this one when making the mod page. I edited the Changelog and the Guide to address several of Quitch's valid observations.
  11. Unique mod "short names" are used throughout the wiki to avoid unnecessarily long URLs and Guide col widths. Each mod page includes the full mod name for reference. We reference using the full names wherever possible other than the mod page hooks for clarity.
  12. Basically, the plan is to enhance textures according to the HRDLC texture sizes (so as not to revert to console quality ). The graphic enhancements will still be very noticeable, but we will limit texture overhauls to the 1k options. Due to what we have learned about the working set RAM limitations and the fact that DX9 mirrors VRAM into RAM, nobody can afford the cost of the large outdoor texture packages 2k and above unless significant sacrifices are made (i.e., reduced actor and clutter textures and no SFO). Indoor/dungeon textures are not a problem though. Only those used in high frequency/cell outoors are a real problem. Brainstorm already started in the Admin thread (see "Core STEP mods not in SR" thread and cast your votes on the wiki).
  13. UPDATE: Just updated this thread to reflect our new interim release goal in order to define STEP:Core and begin work on STEP:Extended. STEP:Core is basically final and is represented by only installing mods marked as "Core" in the STEP Guide. We are gathering screens of this base install now and verifying that it includes everything necessary but nothing more than that --all according to the new STEP:Core Mandate. Anyone that has not yet read that, please do so to better understand the direction we are heading. The 2.2.7 release will bring us even closer to the 2.3.0 goal by focusing on refining the non-Core mods in the in the current guide. These non-Core mods will ultimately formulate the basis for STEP:Extended, and this means that we can begin testing mods for 2.2.7, 2.2.8 and 2.2.9 according to the STEP:Extended Mandate, which opens up the door to new possibilities. This is now the "2.2.7 interim-2.3.0 release" The "rules" are somewhat relaxed, so we are open to more suggestions; however, we'll not likely be doing anything too drastic with the non-Core mods of the guide. Please post here though if you have suggestions or comments on the existing guide and mod list. I will begin an overhaul of the development guide ... NOW. v2.2.7 ChangeLog For replacers, the test case should be a high-quality screenshot compare. We don't need a lot, just two or three sets of compares on the thread in Mod Suggestions (MS) marked [ TESTING ]. For non-replacers, please head over to MS and read the Announcement. Then go into the testing thread and contribute some test ideas or some of your own test results. The idea is that testing --and logging of that activity on the threads-- will be touch & go for a lot of mods, and it should be pretty clear by anyone stumbling upon any mod thread what the end result is. Let us know if you want to be a Mod Tester!
  14. BUG REPORTS ONLY PLEASE! Please post any bugs or issues that you think may be related to this release on this thread. Those issues will be fixed, if possible, in the next STEP update. Progress on the next STEP release can be found in this forum. Make sure to check back often for updates! v2.2.6 Changelog (changes made since initial release)
  15. I've never seen a real need for those tweaks. Don't get me wrong, Z-fighting was and still is a slight issue, but in the ideal world, you'd want to counter that with no clipping or performance and stability issues. Unfortunately, the ini tweaks can not guarantee either. So I've got a fresh install with some basic STEP mods set up. Should I proceed with fully installing STEP 2.2.5 or is it best if I take the changes from the OP here into account? 2.2.6 guide should be released later today, so you should wait. There is a special announcement coming with the new release.
  16. OK thanks for confirming.
  17. Agree v181b recommended for all users, regardless due to the 3.1 Gb cap for all users (actually, it is a 4 Gb cap, but that is not as readily apparent). Read the support thread on the topic for more info.
  18. Going through and verifying right now. Thanks for doing this ... it is a lot of work!
  19. can anyone verify why the z-fighting and refcount tweaks are proposed for removal? Not in the OP ...
  20. I have set up Gentoo before ... mostly for fun and customizability. Not the best end result though. I prefer Mint personally with the MATE desktop env. Currently working with CentOS though.
  21. While I am not a vegetarian, I pride myself as a connoisseur of ALL food and hold nothing in prejudice. I envy being vegetarian, alas I am too weak. As a biologist, I would advise against ingesting multivitamins, even as a vegetarian. They are just not healthy and really overload your body with metabolites (bad for liver/kidneys in the long run). Just eat plenty of green leafys and balance with legumes and Earth-friendly soy proteins (or nutritional yeast). I imagine some fungi has protein as roots says, but most I know of are almost exclusively carbs, so he must be dealing with an extract of some kind. Actually, a pound of broccoli sprouts, 81 mg of aspirin and a tall glass of red wine every day is really all you need to be healthy ;) (maybe balance with some avocado for the fat)
  22. I've heard the name but can't recal if I know any of the music ... that first track is very good. I liked it immediately. The second is more an acquired taste for me ... very early-eighties. 23. Thread title says it all
  24. I played Alan Wake on the console ... great game, and very freaky too. I actually jumped out of my skin several times playing in the dark & quiet by myself
