  1. - Tweaked general performance settings for more FPS I thought you might appreciate some feedback on the performance work that you have done between Vividian 4.151 and 5.0. Standing at the "coc Riverwood" point facing the village, 4.151 gave me a fluctuating average of 37.0fps (ranging from dips to 35.5 up to occasional 38.0) at 1440p and when I reloaded the identical save point under 5.0 I saw a steadier 39.0fps. This is running on the PC in my sig. 4770K at 4.5GHz and 780ti at 1248/7800. Resolution was 2560x1440.
  2. Thanks - the gamma is already 1.0 so that was correct. I am looking forward to trying the new preset.
  3. Lovely video - thanks for showing the new profile. I have a question - assuming a reasonably correctly calibrated monitor, is there a recommended setting for the brightness slider inside Skyrim? I am finding the interiors pitch black at the moment and interior light sources seem muted. This is with 5.0 beta2 and SR:LE (current version).
  4. If you use too much resist gear you will forgo primary enchants for melee and will be making yourself weaker against fighters. Have a look at resist potions - particularly vs frost as that will drain your stamina.
  5. While some books on what I would consider the Common list will be on General merchant levelled lists and a few on specialists, I intend most to be hand-placed or with short hunts to uncover caches. Some Common books will be in NPC houses or shops while others will be in bandit camps. Rare books will be in dungeons with named NPCs or Leaders. Esoteric books will be in remote or deep locations or on bosses. Skill books will be hand-placed of course. As an example, I am planning to use the Treasure Map mechanic to reveal caches when the Note is discovered. Imagine a dead Thalmor Justiciar with a note reporting heretical books at a particular location. The concealed cache will then be revealed once the note is found. Imagine a Journal found under a table in a tavern bemoaning a lost horse carrying books and supplies which went over a cliff or was swept away in a raging river. A promise to deliver something in an icy waste which was never fulfilled. Discarded books at the site of a Bandit raid. Rumours of a complete set of rare historical texts in a Dwemer ruin. Yup - you will be adding another ESP when all this is over!
  6. The 36 Lessons match their Morrowind covers very closely. The number is on the spine as you can see and is also on the first title page inside but the front cover only has Vivec himself. Each set of 12 has a different colour spine and each individual book has different dirt/scratches. Remember that in the inventory you have the tooltips and the item description panel. Look at post #4 in this thread for a better shot of Sermon 18. Once I have got a decent proportion of the books done, I will start asking for sanity checks on some of my placement ideas. I have great plans but have no idea how to execute them safely. Despite my earlier intentions, I will need to tie the Lost Library to the Book Covers Skyrim mod since I want to reuse some Notes and Journals and don't want to duplicate textures. I will be using Notes and Journals to set up mini-quests to reward readers with a small cache of books after a scavenger hunt or risk taken. Now I have got over my hurdle of learning new tools to generate normal maps, I am firmly in book creation mode. I just have to make sure I don't put in ESO books by mistake as The Imperial Library now includes them. I almost did the cover for "The Lusty Argonian Maid - An Oral Tradition" today before I found it was an ESO book.
  7. If you can't close with a spell caster quickly enough, try archery or summon creature scrolls. An alternative is to pick a race, stone or potions that give resists. Remember Whirlwind Sprint. Use followers.
  8. I wanted to see what some of the books looked like on a shelf, so to speak, so I visited Bleak Falls Barrow and set up a little montage in the CK to get an idea of in-game appearances. ENB used was Vividian with 0.251.
  9. Another little teaser for our Morrowind lovers... Remember the ABCs for Barbarians? I know there have been "Oblivion" editions of the book but here is the original, straight from the Balmora Press offices with all new illustrations. Just the original A, B and C because we are talking about Barbarians of course. Adding other letters would only confuse them.
  10. A little clarification is needed at one point in the Guide. Realistic Smoke and Embers by isoku is available in High and Medium versions and the Guide does not suggest a version.
  11. The annoying thing was that I had just transferred the drives over to this new PC and had not got my backup strategy in place yet. I got over-confident in the fact that the Samsung 840PRO is an Enterprise drive. It is only my gaming drive and is the first failure I have had in a decade. I have spent the past two full days getting Skyrim and SRLE set up again and have discovered a few things that I have lost on the dead drive but I can reconstruct them with a little effort. I have all my Book Covers source files and of course the Nexus has the completed mod but I have lost some of my history and prior versions. I also lost my Blender source for the Book Covers models but I can reconstruct that in minutes from any completed mesh. Apart from Blender and NIFskope, I am back up and running again. Once I have sorted out an eBay auction for my 2010 Mac Pro, I will be back to doing the Lost Licrary covers and contents.
  12. I don't know yet, but since it is one of their Enterprise drives they are sending a courier today to uplift. I suspect they will be interested in the point of failure but I am not expecting to get the same drive back. None of the data is critical anyway and can be reconstructed with a little effort from my Master files. Once I get my Skyrim install set up again I will be imaging it to HDD in case it happens again because it is a real bind. I had only just got it set up right after moving the drives from my Mac Pro to this new PC.
  13. You could cut down on the number of texture mods to reduce the load on the graphics card. Maybe start by looking for 2k mods that have a 1k option. Consider dropping the parallax mods and maybe review the impact of the water. I would suspect the waterfall and other LOD mods might have an impact too. Dial back the grass and flora. Even if you drop the ENB, make an ENBoost-only profile and use that instead.
  14. Neo - there is a broken link in the current version of the guide. The "ENB Series Graphics Modification" link takes you to https://enbdev.com/index_en.htm but it gives a 404 when clicked.
  15. Are there any conventions in Skyrim for the values of books? What price would you expect to see for a common book, a rare one and a skill book? Oh, and I have hit a bit of a bump in the road with the Lost Library... one of my so-called Enterprise Grade SSDs (Samsung 840PRO) has died and taken out my Steam folder and Skyrim installation as well as all the modding-related tools. I still have all my Photoshop source files and my master Book Covers Skyrim archive but I lost my working copy of the Lost Library ESP with over 40 books fully created. I estimate a week to bring Skyrim back up to standard and getting all the tools back although I am now running on a slow WD Caviar Green drive until the warranty exchange is actioned.
  16. As I am building up completed books, I have been sorting them into categories so that they can be placed into appropriate levelled lists. So far I have come up with the following... Funny / General / Stories - Common levelled list History / Esoteric / Poetry / Religion - Rare levelled list, specialists or hand-placed Crafting - hand-placed Even some of the Common list books will be hand-placed. Examples would be some of the books about the Alik'r being placed in Redguard homes and a few Ashlander poetry books with Dunmer or around Solstheim.
  17. Googling "skyrim placing items" returns this as the top hit... https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/615803-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/61718366
  18. I have posted a Help Wanted thread over in the TES Alliance Study Hall asking for help with a specific use of the nDo2 normal map tool. If you use nDo2, please pop over there and read my post as I am struggling to get good specular maps.
  19. I have been a domestic Photoshop user since about 2005 or 2006 I think when I bought Photoshop Elements (the "Home" version of PS) for creating forum signatures and avatars way back in my Everquest days. I took the opportunity to upgrade to CS3 because I could claim a rebate for the money spent on Elements. I jumped up the ladder to CS6 when it became clear that CS3 was the last upgradeable version and I am glad I did. CS3 was not really aware of multi-core processors and I was using it more heavily for Guild website graphics. When I jumped to CS6 I found that it could use the GPU for the more complex filter tasks. Sure I barely scratch its surface but it is a tool I am glad I own as I have put hundreds and hundreds of hours into it. As for the Lost Library mod, there are around 200 TES titles stored in The Imperial Library that never made it into Skyrim and yes, I will be breaking the larger ones into sets. This means more covers but I think I have managed to get the hang of fading, grunging and altering covers to prevent too much repetition. It would probably be prudent to release the mod in, say, four significant stages of 50-odd books each but I don't want to commit to anything at this point. I have to learn the scripting and CK side of mod-making to make these books interesting to find. Treasure hunts... mysterious notes on corpses... abandoned loot... that sort of thing.
  20. I now have my CS6 license installed again and can carry on working on the new covers from tomorrow. I have to investigate the nDo2 normal map tool and see whether it will be suitable for this project.
  21. iNeed does not cover diseases. The problem is that Diseased is broken for DB and needs updating.
  22. You will be struggling if you use an ENB with that card. Vividian is a full-on ENB which will tax many graphics cards. Have a look at the Vividian ENB page because the author has recently posted a Performance version.
  23. I have to admit the rule doesn't make much sense... normally UDBP goes after Dragonborn.esm, not Dawnguard.esm.
  24. Cheers - I didn't notice any FPS increase when I dropped the EdgeAA but I don't really think I needed the effect. It is good to know a little more about them.
