  1. I tried the preset that you linked to torm for the Bokeh DOF preset, and I really like it. It's very fast and smooth in the transitions, and I'm getting no noticeable performance hit. One thing I'm going to have to look into is I'm getting a very faint overlay on the screen in certain places which is annoying and not sure what is causing it. It also works remarkably well in 3rd person view which I primarily use. As to z-fighting, it doesn't really help it, aside from if you are right up against a tree causing the background to be very blurry. But if I can find out how to fix the transparent image that is showing up, I think this is going to be my new DOF. One interesting thing I came across when playing with Dynavision is that it seems it's not very friendly with higher ugrids settings (at least that's my first impression). I need to do more testing to know if that really is the cause, but invariably after playing the game to test it, if I quit and relaunch, sometimes the game would throw an error and fail to launch. Removing Dynavision fixed it.
  2. Really great writeup with very useful information. I'll be examining closer when I retry various settings. +1
  3. Took a gander at some of those videos, and this mod does look promising. Will be keeping track of this one for sure.
  4. I'll try increasing the DOF tonight and see what happens. I hadn't come across that mod with only Bokeh DOF, but will give that a try as well. Was hoping the lighter application would help as I'm with zMan, I don't like it too strong.
  5. As added information concerning DOF, I tried Dynavision (without any lighting mods), and adjusted for slightly weaker DOF effect. The good news is that I did not experience any FPS loss whatsoever. But for me, it didn't hide the z-fighting in the distant mountains. Forgot to check wall-ends, so will probably do that soon.
  6. +1 to Bealdwine. Ran through the updated guide and had much better results! Thanks for all the hard work on this zMan.
  7. I haven't tried it, but I would suspect that using Dynavision for DOF along with RL wouldn't give near as much a performance hit. You can also adjust the amount of DOF that gets applied with Dynavision. Would be curious to hear if anyone has tried that particular setup.
  8. Very good point. I haven't tried any of the dynamic dof mods yet, but want to. May test that tomorrow.
  9. z-fighting is not specific to video cards. The odd thing is that some folks do not see it, but the number of people that do experience it far outweighs those that don't. The link that torm listed has great information concerning the technicalities of why it occurs.
  10. Ok, so your video is showing exactly what I'm seeing as well. Still some z-fighting on the distant mountains, but significantly better than before.
  11. I just tried these settings. The z-fighting was signifcantly reduced, but it's still there for me. Step in the right direction I suppose. torminater, can you include your ini files here so I can compare them to mine.
  12. Thanks for the link torminater. And moved.
  13. Excellent resources Fri. I've been following Ted Talks for several years. Love the online courses links. Already see some that I'm very interested in. +1
  14. Hehe...I hear ya. I don't go as low as a ratio of 5, but I kind of like the idea of slowing it down further while in combat.
  15. @Bealdwine Have you by chance tried Dynamic Timescale Standalone? I like the idea of having it change depending on what I'm doing, and it looks to be quite configurable. Previously I had just been changing the timescale manually (persists through saves).
  16. I completely agree, and love this mod! It also adds cloaks to select guards and gives them a more impressive feeling.
  17. I've been using this mod for awhile, though not using all of the features. Definitely recommended.
  18. I haven't tried any quest mods yet, but these look really good. Definitely going to try them out.
  19. Unfortunately, a lot of games have problems in the shaders area. My biggest annoyance right now is those fugly shadows. Why try and make a game so beautiful and ruin it? Boggles my mind.
  20. Awesome! Seeing as I haven't gone through another process, I'll use the updated guide this weekend.
  21. I enjoyed that read, though I do agree with some comments further down that energy consumption is not easily expressed in terms of growth as it is defined today. Bad decisions are being made everyday based on the greed factor, no doubt. But as with any system, at some point those bad decisions will be corrected, whether it be because they are forced to, because the masses rise up in protest, or an individual (or individuals) have the foresight to find a better solution. Personally, I find the latter to be more true today than ever before (but sadly not reported on enough and/or suppressed).
  22. Actually, one of the first things they hope to be able to gather is water, whether it be trapped inside the asteroid, or potentially as ice particles. Their first phase, however, is to get telescopes into space that can analyze objects. While everything has the potential for a negative aspect, I'm not seeing anything that would indicate that would be the case here. As for the greed factor, It's obvious that they are decades away from being able to effectively mine on any scale worthy of bearing massive profits (assuming it's even viable to be worth it). But, in the end, profits are what keeps things going a step further, and I find the potential for new discoveries exciting. Not everyone is out to corrupt our planet and give us the shaft. Time will tell.
  23. Interestingly, I've never noticed this. But that's probably since I play in 3rd person.
  24. I think this is a good thing. I agree that it will be some time before their end vision is met, but there are several private companies/groups that are working towards some sort of space exploration or resource gathering. To date, it's been governments putting in all the effort and money (which comes from us) to get to where we are today. With more interest from private parties to get out there, who knows what will be accomplished or discovered.
  25. Those look awesome. I can't imagine the amount of work required to get the glass shaped for the lungs from the first person, not to mention the skeleton.
