implemented Maintain Your System Specs On the Wiki
stoppingby4now replied to z929669's question in Wiki Support
Added 'Dragonborn' to the list of DLC's. Added "> 2560x1600" to the Resolution list. Anything beyond that is reaching into multi-monitor setups (or non-common large monitor sizes) which is going to be for higher end rigs (and the list of available resolutions at that point is ridiculously long). -
Help me to understand the cause of stutter

Why would it be swapping texture data to and from system ram if it isn't yet fully utilizing the 1GB vram I have?My card runs at good temps (about 55C). My entire PC is very well ventilated. I also have a power supply far greater than what my PC requires (not sure if you meant lacking in power supply or actually voltage tweaking my gpu when you said insufficient power. I was just making note of the primary cause, but that also assumes everything else is stable. Beyond that you have to start looking at other issues, and they tend to be hardware related. I'm not sure how far you've pushed the overclock on your GPU, but this is directly related to it possibly not getting enough power for the overclock (seeing as you didn't adjust the voltage). The first step I would take would be to record your current GPU overclock settings, revert them back to factory settings, and see if you still get the stuttering. If you don't, then it's most likely you need to adjust the voltage draw on the card (or reduce the amount of OC). Pushed back down to stock clock speeds and still the same issue. You've got a great system, so I don't see it as anything being slow, but I also don't have any experience with higher end Radeon cards. Have you opened up the case and double checked to make sure all connections are solid? Also, are you using anything for AA (such as supersampling)? Seeing as you only experienced the issue at a certain point during the install, all indications (for me) point to something being over-taxed, namely the GPU. When all other factors don't point to any of the more common factors, finding the cause can be harder. The best advice I can give at this point is to shut-down the machine and double check all connections, make sure all cards are seated properly, etc. Beyond that, you will likely have to start uninstalling a mod at a time to try and find the culprit (if it is mod related). -

The only way to see changes to page directly is to look a the history of changes. But that will just show you diff's of the wiki source. Beyond that, most changes are recorded in the Working Changelog thread. -
Terrain Textures Problems [AF Misconfigured]
stoppingby4now replied to zeyuri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
This would be a good thing to do for all troubleshooting threads. Eventually there threads can be added into a troubleshooting guide on the wiki. Just another thing for a forum moderator to do once the mods are picked and set up.I totally agree. -

Help me to understand the cause of stutter

Excessive swapping of texture data from System RAM to VRAM is a primary cause. Are you running the Bethesda High Resolution Texture Pack? 700 MB of VRAM use is rather low if you are. Beyond that, it could be a lot of things, typically either insufficient power being delivered to the card, or the card overheating causing it to throttle. -
Good point on adding it to PP packs, though I would tend to still lean to putting things like this in the Utilities section with an added note (and referencing it in the PP packs). I find it's usually best to have all worthwhile tools listed in the same spot so it gives you something to think about going forward (particularly since this tool is geared towards being able to try out multiple configs and swap between them quickly and easily).

cannot get the BCF to work with Better Skill and Quest Books Names

That error an be ignored. -
I don't see a problem with adding ENB Manager to the guide. Other tools such as DDSOpt, Texture Optimizer, Wrye Bash, Mod Organizer, TES5Edit...they aren't required, but are listed as good adds for those that want the additional "Power Tools".

GUIDE [WIP] DDSopt & Texture Overhauls
stoppingby4now replied to z929669's question in DDSopt Support
The only thing I would qualify is that, for Wrye Bash users, when packing up into the archive, use non-solid compression. This may slightly decrease the compression ratio, but the benefit is huge when you are (un)installing upstream packages, re-unpacking from the huge vanilla archive ... extraction goes much faster. If this isn't in the WB guide, it needs to be. I'll re-archive mods even with no changes for this very reason. -

Need a screenshot looking down a road for the ENB AF Comparisons. Looking straight at a tree doesn't do the scene justice for an AF compare, as a lot of improvement with AF will be seen much further from the camera. -
The files were created. You can safely ignore it.

Terrain Textures Problems [AF Misconfigured]
stoppingby4now replied to zeyuri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
His AF is enabled to 16x...at least it says so in the INI. "iMaxAnisotropy=16" Then something is overriding it or cancelling it out. Could be a misconfigured setting in the drivers. -
Terrain Textures Problems [AF Misconfigured]

That's normal when viewing textures at extreme angles, such as your character traveling on the road. Anisotropic Filtering is the only way to improve it. Based on the screenshots, I'd guess that you may not have it enabled, but increasing the amount of Anisotropic Filtering will improve that. -
I've unmarked them as Core and added to the notes for both. STEP doesn't have a hard requirement on either, so this makes the most sense.

What I've been doing is to run Wrye Bash first using the BCF to convert it before I do anything more with the mod. I often optimize the textures using DDSopt (whenever it makes enough difference that it is worthwhile) which also changes the checksums, so I use the BCF converted version of the mod to do this and then rearchive the mod using 7z before installing the mod in Wrye Bash.Yep, that's what I'm getting ready to do. More authors just need to include a wizard and all this would be solved. lol!Wizard and/or better BAIN structures! I agree.

No, I've never installed STEP before. I tried and failed because of all the discrepancies between updates and different versions. If it were possible to use everything that was used back when the guide was released this would be easy, but mods and game versions have updated since and old versions are not available. This is why there is a problem because now I am left with bits and pieces of mods that are no longer relevant or are broken due to game updates. While we haven't completed testing, you could also follow the list that is in 2.2.1. Just know that the listing and instructions are bound to change slightly for some mods.Well that is sort of what I was wondering if it is in a stage where it is reliable enough to enjoy and be playable, or if it is just riddled with bugs*edit: I'm trying to weigh out between the 2 options since trying to follow the old guide will probably run across a handful of bugs as well. Which would you think is more problem free? I haven't done any extensive testing yet (finishing downloading the 2.2.1 list myself), but I believe it to be reasonable (some mods were also removed that were in 2.2.0a). There is also still some work going on in determining specific texture mods, so there will definitely be changes there, but those are aesthetics. Hopefully someone can chime in that has been running the 2.2.1 list and provide some more concrete feedback beyond my gut feeling. :P tech

Sounds like LIAT and TMTM are mutually required to not be out of place. I agree that LIAT adds too many people, it could be a fire hazard ;)At the bare minimum, BSORO would be needed. I've always found it odd anyway that Bards would sing randomly with no requests. How on earth are they making a living? A solution is worth exploring for the next STEP release, IMO.
-
Re: BSOROAre there mods currently in STEP that this is conflicting with? I haven't checked. Re: LIAT I agree on the animations, but the number of people I find quite appropriate most of the time. There is certainly a case to be made about where did such a large group of people come from for small villages such as Riverwood. Re: TMTM The choice of music is very good. The only problem I have with placing a restriction on choice of a mod like this with the lack of a source (bard band, etc.), is that you essentially label all music as immersion breaking when exploring.

The reason I thought It might be important is just the period it time STEP was last updated. By the looks of the changelog a lot of the mods are obsolete/broken at this point because not only has the game updated but all the mods I'm being asked to apply are no longer the same mods they were back in september when 2.2.0 was released because they are all updated and different now as well. Also some of the mods ARE version dependent and either should/shouldn't be run with a newer version of skyrim, no? Does anyone know the status on 2.2.1? Is it very closely nearing release? If it will be released soonish I will gladly just wait for the smoothest experience but if it will be a while I can try and tinker with 2.2.0a. It is true that some mods will be version specific (bug fix, new feature, etc.). The version specific information (I did not make clear) is related to the mods themselves. Since mods do get updated, following any version of STEP assumes you are on the latest version of Skyrim. That is why Skyrim version is important in our testing, primarily because we will always test against the latest version, and never previous ones. We also don't specifically call out the versions of mods that are used in the guide (unless a specific version has to be used for whatever reason). So I guess the point is, if your Skyrim is not at the latest version, you could stumble across problems with mods regardless of which version of STEP you follow. There will be cases where certain mods won't work anymore, but they should be very few. As for a release date for STEP 2.2.1, we don't have one yet. Still some work to do on our end. Ok thank you very much. I will go ahead and fully update and follow the 2.2.0a guide as closely as I can then. I'm excited as all hell to try this out! haha It is best to use the older versions of all mods you have still from 2.2.0. Forcing updates will only increase the chances of a problem. Update only the fixes and the interface mods, and try to leave the rest alone if possible. That's not realistic, as a lot of mods don't have the older versions available. In some cases, that could cause more problems. STEP doesn't tie mod versions, nor should it. The important aspect is Skyrim version, and updating mods will be important in keeping things happy. He implied that he had already downloaded the mods in his previous install some time ago Given that, my advice is very realistic and definitely best practice .... .... and that patches and other things are not compatible with his older version of Skyrim. An updated Skyrim is going to be key, and thus updated mods as well.
