  5. Discussion thread: DDSOpt by Ethatron Wiki Link DDSopt is a tool which manages (preview & resizes) and recompresses your DDS-files. It is an optimal tool for ensuring your textures are saved in the right format, to create high quality DDS-textures from your sources (PNG etc.) and to package down-scaled versions of your textures. It has been forked off NIFopt and both programm share the same underlying technology regarding DDSs and BSAs. It does everything BSAopt does, you don't need both tools.
  6. Completely agree here. Adding lush trees introduced some weird behavior, and the latest version of SFO is just awesome.
  7. To expand yet again, either RS or OLSE (I personally lean towards this one) would be my picks for an enhanced Vanilla experience. But, with the current in-progress nature of all of the solutions, I have to say even if we do include one, this version of STEP is not the one to do it in. Also agree for the reasons that tech brought up.
  8. Maybe it's just my monitor (re-calibrated it yesterday) but I'm not seeing any reds from RLO. Just a very warm orange (and too warm in some cases). After your post I went back too look at the combination and you're right. The combination does put the lighting closer to the spectrum that it should be but you loose (90% according to RLO) of RLO's effects; however, it does nothing for the spotlighting issues which is so "in you face" it hard for me to look past.Concerning the light from RLO, I can see some Orange in there, but it's come out as light would be in the upper Orange spectrum, bleeding over into the lower end of the Red spectrum. Either way, still not realistic. In regards to RLO not being completed yet, the biggest thing IMO that would prevent it from being a candidate in this regard, is that we are missing Vision Lighting. That may be able to help with the color problem.
  9. For the record, I'm in agreement with a lot of the comments already about not including a lighting solution in base step. Z wants to have something that is Vanilla friendly, and I can see the merit in it, but my take is it will likely cause some frustration in properly handling what to do with actually installing a Lighting/PP pack later on, as a base STEP solution will likely need to be removed. But even in regards to attempting to stick with Vanilla, it's still going to be subjective. Folks are going to have their own pick, and who knows how many won't install an approved STEP mod because they don't agree with it.
  10. Bleak Falls is disappointing with EL&FX, however, from daytime light coming through the opening in the wall. I do agree with tech on that. RLO, IMO, will be a much better candidate for inclusion once Vision Lighting is complete.
  11. My take. For starters, RLO's lighting is too red. For anything burning to give off light in the red spectrum, it would need to burn at around 800C+, but the breaking down of wood into gasses occurs around 500C. Wood just doesn't burn hot enough to emit light in the red spectrum without help, and it's typically going to be in the upper yellow to lower orange specturm. Candles burn at a significantly lower temperature than wood does, and they will almost always remain in the yellow spectrum, so RLO just isn't realistic from that standpoint. The second issue, is that RLO lighting from windows gives off too much ambient light, such that walls surrounding windows get too much direct light. It's like a light was placed in front of the windows set to flood. And, as has been stated already, the sun rays at night are too blue in spots. I do, however, love the shadows with RLO. As for EL&FX, I find they hit the color temperature practically spot on in the majority of cases. Though I wouldn't recommend it for base step, my favorite currently is in fact RLO+EL&FX. If going with a more Vanilla feel, I'm liking OLSE the best, as I find Relighting Skyrim to be too bright. However, it's also important to note that there is collaboration going on to merge OLSE lighting into Relighting Skyrim, so who knows what the future will bring.
  12. A couple of your images aren't loading under Bleak Falls Borrow. Not sure how I managed that...it's fixed now.
  13. I have a lot of comparison images up now (all interior), which can be viewed here. If there any suggestions for additional locations, I will be happy to add them.
  14. So does RLO. But that's the entire point, to make lighting more realistic as there are a lot of fake and unrealistic light sources throughout the game.
  15. The only reason I can think of for games to use moderate compression would be to keep the amount of processing of them to a minimum. The higher the compression, the more CPU cycles it will take to go through them. But it also depends on how often they need to be accessed.
  16. I removed the problem Solved. Let's please only mark threads as solved when they truly are, as it's misleading otherwise.
  17. I haven't experienced it, but I haven't been on as much due to helping clean out my Mom's house. Definitely something to keep an eye on though, and continue to report if you see the problem (and what time of day, including timezone).
  18. Based on your first statement, it sounds like you just added the wizard.txt file to the archive. That's not enough. You need to apply the BCF first (if you don't have it, it needs to go into the "Skyrim Mods\Bash Installers\Bain Converters" folder). Right click on the mod, select Conversions->Apply->Golden Gods Shrines_v1.1_6538-BCF. That will restructure the archive to the format it needs to be in, and add the wizard. Then you can run the wizard.
  19. I'm actually 6'3", so I must be the King Gnome. I wish I remember where I got that icon, I've had it since I was like 12 but I can't find the original, even with Google. that makes it unique. :)
  20. I just tried both methods (saving directly and copying to notepad++) for the masterlist (from the URL that Kelmych supplied), and BOSS ran happily and sorted. And I did disable updating the masterlist.
  21. I have to say you've missed the point. There are plenty of benchmarks that put those two cards ahead of the 7970, so in part I was debunking any thought that the 7970 is the top card (unless you meant in price per performance, in which case you would be mostly correct). And in no way did I "assume" that an extra 1GB of VRAM is all that matters (my exact comment was hardly anything to shake a stick at). You should read posts more carefully before making assumptions of your own. The 670 you linked to is actually 10$ more for 1GB Less than the 7970. You are correct, that was my bad. I didn't even look at that, and had carried over the specs from the initial price point from new egg which was for a 4GB card (which was likely a one time offer). But you can get the 670 2GB version for even cheaper at $350, which is still a great card for the majority of games out there.
  22. The resolutions that were initially added were based on what was available in the selection. There are going to be some additional choices based on monitor selection (as evident by the missing 1440x900 for example). Point is, if it's available for selection, it needs to be there, regardless of how uncommon it is. The one exception is multi-monitor. That is in the realm of high-end and it's less important to capture actual resolution (not to mention the choices would make the list much larger than is necessary).
  23. Or maybe it was me so I could swoop in and pretend to be the hero. Who knows.
  24. The Man has raised you up again. It was a problem with the ModAuthor group, and has been fixed.
  25. Benchmark results for high end cards. 7970 price. GTX 670 price. (New egg had one at $359, but it is out of stock...this would have been the absolute winner for price/performance). $10 more for an extra 1GB of VRAM (hardly anything to shake a stick at), and a bit more performance. Definitely nothing to claim as excessive, particularly since two of nVidia's cards are still the top performers.
