  1. Quick question: if I followed the STEP proper guide for mod installs could I use the SR TES5edit notes for specific cleaning procedures where applicable? I didn't do any mod cleaning after installed the latest STEP v2.2.4. Only using Wrye Bash. Or would I be better off going back to vanilla and doing a full SR install? I think the work done on this guide is crazy awesome, wish I knew about it sooner.
  2. I just downloaded SkyRe, frostfall, SKYTEST, and WIC Cloaks. All seem to be working fine in my new game. Played for roughly 2hrs with no ctds... Feels like a brand new skyrim! Edit: I will note that I had to disable the Brawl bug fix (already included in SkyRe) and also the birds&flocks mod (as recommended earlier in this thread). Also, I am running STEP 2.2.4 baseline with the additional mods listed above. Oh and I forgot to mention I'm running Jaysus swords, Immersive armor, and some SkyRe Reproccer .xml configuration files. All non-step mods were installed after the STEP guide in Wrye Bash - Installers.
  3. So if one were to install SkyRe and the mods that it requires, they would need to start a new game. If using Wrye Bash, could we "unload" SkyRe if we want to switch it out and play our vanilla characters again? The reason I ask is I have a +100hour savegame I like loading up every once in a while that just uses texture mods. I would of course do the whole "save game cleaning method" discussed on the wiki in order to create a nice clean save point for my vanilla characters before I switch to SkyRe.
  4. I was playing through some of the dawnguard quest line and told Serana to wait while I did some sneaky business. When I was done I went to retrieve her and there was no dialogue option to have her follow me again! So I did some looking online and found this fix (which worked): "To bring back the "Come with me" dialogue after dismissing Serana, enter the code sqv DLC1NPCMentalModel in the console. You are given a long list of information. Scroll down the list using the up and down arrows, and make sure that the following codes: CanFollow_var = True / IsFollowing_var = False / IsWaiting_var = True / TurnOffComeWithMe_var = False / LockedIn_var = False are in order by looking at the false/true (i.e., if LockedIn_var was set to true then you need to put it to false). To do this, enter the following command: setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel LockedIn_var False. Once you do this you should be able to recruit Serana to be your follower again." Hope this helps anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation!
  5. Is it possible to have two instances of skyrim running on your pc? That way we could have one optimized for STEP and the other for silly Tropical Skyrim or similar mods!
  6. Excellent, thanks makes perfect sense. I was browsing the comments on the nexus and that seems to be the consensus. I will apply that fix. And man, I wish Skyrim Unplugged was still around. These auto-updates are a pain
  7. I recently installed STEP v2.2.3 and everything was working great. After Steam auto-updated me to Skyrim v1.9, I keep getting this error message when I launch Skyrim from the skse_loader... "SKSE Community Uncapper does not support this Skyrim Version. You can enable the AutoUpdate functionality by setting bAutoUpdate=1 inside the SKSE_Elys_Uncapper.ini file." However, I installed the latest Skyrim Community Uncapper version for this new patch from the nexus. Any idea what's causing this?
  8. My game updated without my permission to 1.9, had disabled updates on Steam and everything. I'm guessing that's a problem for a lot of folks. *sigh* Time for some updates!
  9. Looks like the Skyrim Community Uncapper by Elys is incompatible with Skyrim 1.9. Should this post go in a different bug reports thread? Couldn't find one for the Skyrim 1.9 update. EDIT: Nevermind it looks like he updated it on the nexus.. looks like I've got some updating to do!
  10. Also, any direction on how to determine if a mods textures are optimized? Did a search and came back with some info about the mod author needing to run it through DDSopt in order to optimize (or some similar process). The best way to to find out if this was done is to email the mod author, correct?
  11. Great thanks for the info! I will take a stab at analyzing all that once I get off work. Sounds pretty straightforward
  12. Okay I took a look at it.. In the nexus page I linked there is an option for "Hoods Only" textures, might be a simple way to update the default Dark Brotherhood outfit and get a STEP-worthy hood. The textures being added are: dbarmor_hood.dds dbarmor_hood_n.dds And the meshes are: dbarmorhoodgnd.nif dbarmorhoodmasklessgnd.nif dbarmorhoodmaskless_0.nif dbarmorhoodmaskless_1.nif dbarmorhoodmaskless_f_0.nif dbarmorhoodmaskless_f_1.nif dbarmorhood_0.nif dbarmorhood_1.nif dbarmorhood_arg_0.nif dbarmorhood_arg_1.nif dbarmorhood_f_0.nif dbarmorhood_f_1.nif dbarmorhood_kha_0.nif dbarmorhood_kha_1.nif It doesn't look like it would overwrite anything (or lead to any issues) at a glance.. but I have a pretty basic understanding of how all these mods interact. After a full STEP 2.2.3 install (baseline and all the extras), the only files in my textures/armor/dbarmor location are: dbarmor_female_torso_n.dds dbarmor_male_torso_n.dds There are no files in the meshes/armor/dbarmor location after my full STEP 2.2.3 install. I will download the mod and see if it works with 2.2.3.  Is there anything else I should check out in order to round out my evaluation?
  13. I noticed when installing the base Elemental Staffs (1.0) and the update (1.10) via Wrye Bash, you are installing two Elemental Staves.esp files. As a result, the base file has an orange [+] next to it instead of the usual green. I'm assuming you simply disable the .esp file you are overwriting with the update, but just wanted to speak up in case it warranted mentioning in the guide. BTW, this is for installing STEP 2.2.3.
  14. Works like a charm now. Great work guys, as always! Â
  15. Yessir I am getting this same error. I downloaded the "NMM Installer" version and it has the wizard enabled on WB (white square with a wizard stick). Â The manual version of this file doesn't have the wizard. Â Should we just use the wizard? Â Well, I'm off to see the wizard..Â
  16. Ehh okay, if I can find the time. I thought the reason for its exclusion could be explained simply without any exhaustive research just because it was included in the STEP guide a few revisions ago.
  17. I guess the REAL question would be if it is incompatible with STEP? I'm really excited to get that sexy hood back
  18. Hey Guys, I always loved the way this armor looked but noticed the latest STEP installation doesn't include it. Â Any chance of bringing it back? Â Or is there some compatibility issues I'm not seeing? Â I tried searching the site for old posts about it but couldn't find anything. Â Thanks! https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2260 Decent mod, recommended for a customized look, but not in alignment with the STEP Mandate.-z
  19. I'm having this problem too. Â My black star won't fill. Â Using a bow of soul snares to kill humanoids and it won't take a soul when I kill them. Â Not sure how to fix it. EDIT: Just noticed the comment regarding acquisitive soul gems above. Gonna try it out!
  20. Okay thanks for the input! I unfortunately had to work late last night and didn't get a chance to work on my computer :( I will update once I get a chance to run some logs and clean the dust off my fans.. Thanks!
  21. I'm not sure what the make of my card is, how would I check on that? I remember buying it from newegg back in 2010. And I would most likely hold off on getting any major upgrades until I start putting together a new rig.. so I hope my GPU is one of those "winners" you mentioned! However, I'm fairly sure that a lot of the fan noise is coming from my PSU. It's a Thermaltake (not sure what model, but I can check on that). I've read some reviews and most claim it makes a racket. Maybe I could run GPU-Z and have it log fan speeds? Not sure if it's possible.. In a related note, I noticed in that discussion I posted above that it seems that the OP's high temps could be reduced by ensuring good air flow through his case. Perhaps my air flow is out of whack and this is accounting for some of the high temps?
  22. I found this forum post on another board about someone with a similar issue (see below). It looks like issues of this kind for this GPU are not uncommon. In a related note, I've posted on other forums about my PC build and the consensus is that it is a bit choked for air. My case is a medium HP factory default wimp. Maybe I can adjust fan speeds to help bring down my temp, but it sounds like I'm just making the best of my bad situation. I will still clean the dust out tonight and see if that helps. https://www.tomshardware.com/forum/300634-33-temp
  23. Thanks for the reply! I have GPU-Z and took a log before I started the STEP install. I can post later tonight. My GPU temps get up to around 95C (I think?). Haven't rechecked after installing all the STEP mods. But you are right, it is probably due for another dust down. You recommend removing the individual components? I just pop the side off my case and blast it with some "dust off" on my patio.
  24. System Specs - Nvidia GTX470, CPU (?), I use an SSD, and screen resolution (?) Graphics driver version and settings: (?) Updated to most recent driver a week ago, will post settings later tonight Skyrim launcher settings: STEP Recommended "ultra" settings STEP version and any additional mods used: Current STEP version (2.2.1), Texture/quality resolution at mostly 1k", all baseline and extra STEP mods, HRDLC, dawnguard, dragonborn Installation method - Wrye Bash *NOTE: I am on a mobile and can't double check my system specs above. I will update when I get home from work tonight! Did my best to fill in what I could. My Issue: I finally got through the STEP guide and got all of my mods and ini files configured last night. I gave my new skyrim setup a whirl and started a new character. I ran him all the way to whiterun and played around for about an hour. During this whole session, I noticed my fans were cranking away at very high to their max rpm. They used to switch from high to low rpm gradually when I ran with my old STEP install (2.1 or earlier, I believe). As far as game performance goes, everything seemed to run very smoothly.. no real complaints. I'm not very computer savvy, and would really appreciate any comment anyone could offer as to if this is a real problem or if there is anyway to address this issue. Maybe I could reduce some settings to increase my performance? That might help lower my loudly whirring fan speeds, but I'm just guessing. Thanks for your help! Also please let me know if you require any clarification or additional info!
  25. Would including a "natively wrye bash configured" tag or column be possible? I find myself just downloading mods, loading them into Bash Installers and seeing if I get any red flags when I load WB. Not the best way, I know, but it definitely speeds things along when you're trying to get the most out of a limited amount of time.
