Are people too soft today? Will there be consequences?
hishutup replied to a topic in Step Banter Inn
I tried to properly respond to this but I can't. I don't feel like doing research to make a point. Why can't we all become adults and quit being offended by everything? Why do we need to censor others because a select group is "offended" by what they said? Do I agree with others 100% of the time? No. Do I get offended because they or I disagree? No. Do I feel the need "ruin" their internet persona or real lives? No. Do I feel the need to get them fired from their job because of something that is completely out of their control but is still their fault? No. You can take care of your life, let me take care of mine. Also, I have no hope for my generation. There are a lot of good analytical minds out there but the ones that are not are overpowering. I try to look at both sides as this stuff isn't good when its all or nothing. I always argue the other side(even if I completely disagree) because not everyone realizes that it isn't always a one sided thing. This is something that really gets people going for no reason. EDIT: My generation being born in 1995 -
For the most part, you just have to be aware what does what, xEdit is your friend. ICAIO and JK will have problems. You'll need to read up on the details on ICAIOs page and articles.

Here is the record from the plugin. I think Mehrunes Dagon is the correct name. EDIT: Windows broke my theme yet again...

BSA extractor or not BSA extractor...
hishutup replied to richardo11's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
If they were left as a BSA and ordered properly, this is not an issue. However, there may be one or two cases were it is best to extract. I should note that I used to be a big "extract everything" type, now that I have a better understanding of what does what, I no longer support this idea. The only mods that I extracted are: HD DLCHD PatchDragon Stalking Fix(loose)Horns Are ForeverThere were a few plugins where I opted for the BSA version as I knew there was not going to be any serious conflicting assets, like Burn Freeze Shock Effects. I do not have a full SRLEX install but that is what I can remember what I extracted. Also, I don't use MO's BSA method as it complicates things a little because BSAs use Mod Order to sort BSAs instead of Plugin Order. When Merging plugins, I use the "Build Merged BSA" option because all the files that were in the BSA go back in a BSA which is fantastic for keeping things organized. Extracting for someone like Neo is a must because he has to be aware of what assets need to be overwritten or do not need to be overwritten. However for the everyday user, not extracting is better because of the performance difference which can be quite large depending on LO. Since the people asking this sort of question are probably coming from SRLE, you should see a pretty big difference depending on your hardware. If I remember correctly, I received roughly about 40% reducing in time with BSAs not extracted with an old mechanical drive. It depends on what the scripts as a file do. Are they a modified vanilla script that is just a tiny fix? Put in BSA as there may be another that needs to overwrite it for the mod to work. Are they a modified vanilla script that is crucial to the mods operation? It might be best to have this loose to keep it preserved. Are they a completely new script? Probably best to have this in a BSA to keep things cleaner. If you need a hotfix for it, you can provide it loose without any issue. I don't believe there is any difference virtually when a script is in a BSA verses loose. The method of data streaming may be different but I do not know those specifics. You shouldn't observe any difference when it comes to crashes unless the BSA is broken. -
BSA extractor or not BSA extractor...
hishutup replied to richardo11's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Most of the issues are either user error or mods not getting completely uninstalled. Loading BSAs is faster than loading loose by a considerable margin. Not all mods need to be in a BSA, like No Stretching, Modern Brawl Bug Fix or even Dragon Stalking Fix because any mod that contains the files and comes after whether as loose or in a BSA, will override them. When looking at what files need to overwrite what, extracting makes sense but overall its kind of whatever. -

Giant merge - for translating porposes
hishutup replied to AtroCty's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
If you find someone whiling and that has a full LO, this may work Download Spluff either x64/32 as it doesnt matter Close mo run application First entry put "interface" (without quotes) for all docs or "interface\translations" (without quotes) for the mod added docs Second entry put "0" (without quotes) Third entry the user needs to put their own path to Mod Organizer folder, the one with the exe Fourth entry the user may need to put their own path to the Mod Organizer Mods folder, on the first run, this is filled in and is typically <MO path>\mods Have them compress the Spluff Output and send it to you. After which, you can compile the docs however you please. I hate doing this manually so I'd write a python script. -

Please upload the merge_map.txt from the tree merge to pastebin After running relinker, what is the billboard vurt_aspen01_XXXXXXXX.dds file called and what is it's path? -

If I knew the old guide was never accessible, I wouldn't have done it this way. Lucky, this is the wiki and there is a history button. The old guide has massive oversights which is why I did it this way.- 459 replies

You're kind of comparing apples to oranges with the usage. If games were perfectly optimized and were able to use every ounce of performance then you might be able to compare the two, but Skyrim is definitely not one of these. Also, I have 8 logical cores, but skyrim isn't really able to fully utilize anymore than two which makes my CPU numbers appear to be lower. There is almost like a threshold where adding bigger GPUs doesnt make a difference. If I had my old 970 and used the same setup, I bet there would be a zero fps difference after accounting for percent error. I've observed an even worse case in Enderal, when the fps is low, its in the 40s but with extremes of 20s and 60s, but is usually 60. My GPU is actually downclocking(~1100MHz instead of ~1500MHz) itself because there is no reason to be at full boost or even base clock. During this time the cpu doesnt suddenly increase in load and peg every core, or even two for that matter(I will need to confirm this if needed). If you upgrade your GPU, Im sure you'll see what I am saying as you'll definitely be about the sort of threshold. Now we've been off topic for awhile, if what this discussion to continue it may be best to either split or pm me -

I highly doubt optimized textures do anything on modern hardware as long as you have the VRAM, which I do. If you can find the most unoptimized textures you can for a specific area, I'll test this and I'm pretty sure the difference will be within the percentage of error caused by the random nature that is games. I would say +-5fps is that error. As for the constant dips, I was looking at fairly heavy parts to show that it is NOT GPU but rather CPU as far fps is concerned. -
In ver 24 Relinker output gets deleted BEFORE processing. This avoids breaking a fixed script by changing a merge.

Vanilla no HDDLC with USLEEP a stroll around Markarth mostly looking at the ground and occasionally looking up Vanilla JK SuperLight JK Light JK YUP totally limited by GPU even though it never exceeded 50%. By my guess this is poor optimization on the engine side of things. The only way I've been able to increase my framerate is to OC my processor. Sadly, an extra 300MHz is the only thing I could get until I get a proper waterloop. EDIT: I should note I use something similar to a framerate limiter, adaptive Vsync so anything below 60 is no vsync and everything at 60 is enabled. -

My 970 was able to outrun my proc most of the time which is clock for clock the same as the i5 as far as the game is concerned. So maybe the 970 vs 6600k is the breaking point when comparing GPU vs CPU Today, my 980ti just sits there most of the time, theres enough headroom to use ENB without any fps dip. Im hoping that SKGE's shadow shader/engine alleviates some of the issues. Supposedly, the way skyrim's shadows works, is very unusual. EDIT: I was going to run some tests with my old system but I sold the GPU and gave away the other components. -

If they're able to get me into the 30s or even 40 with just the base game the single mod then I wouldn't consider them light. If Im unable to maintain 60 then other's performance will be worse. I kind wish I can push this CPU faster but this cooler is a POS. -

I wouldn't put the blame all on ICAIO either, some mods could be developed with compatibility in mind however, most are not. "Butchered" is subjective, I would rather rip out low quality, incompatible, and bad performing(blame the engine) mods in favor of high quality, more focused, highly compatible, interesting mods. I looked at the patches and some of them are not Pack + Step patches but rather internal pack patches -

Farmhouse Chimneys and Cutting Room Floor will need instructions altered and are pretty much included in STEP 1 mod removed 1 mods description altered Wyrmstooth is gone 1 mod removed Lainter Dale - Hearthfire Edition, And the Realms of Daedra, No Mercy, Sea of Ghosts, The Lost Wonders of Mzark, The Temple of Black Rock and a few others have errors that need to be fixed, some of which I have already done. 5+ mods need work or removal Since ICAIO is a thing, Better City Entrances and Nernie's City and Village Expansion need to go and Expanded Towns and Cities need to be edited 2 mods gone 1 mod needs instructions edited CJ has disappeared quite awhile ago Nearox is sometimes around Ganda is around and I know he doesn't want to deal with this As it sits it will not work with STEP as a whole. I feel that Packs should attempt to be as compatible as they can by having a tight focus. -

EBD looks like its going to have an update which is cool. It looks like this mod improved quite a bit and has quite a few plug-n-play packs. From the users side of things it looks easy but to tell some how to use it or to troubleshoot issues, one has to know how the mod works on a greater level. Its probably something that should be looked at in greater detail but I wounldnt mind some comparisons or suggestions. I was giving Skyproc a hard time because I don't really like them. xEdit scripts are okay, but are not the best solution. Ah, thats what I get for skimming the description images. :P If the other guys want to take a look that is fine. -

I think the guide should stick with vanilla females, they look a little weird but theres less mods and less (non-)issues. There is a fix for vanilla female bodies inside Ruffled Feather There are also inconsistencies with different body mods when comparing to vanilla.
