  1. That wouldn't be immersive! "Oh, look, an Enchanted Ring with 40% Protection against Fire, I better put this in my bag and not wear it, it would be unsportsmanlike against Dragons." I'd suggest just ramp up the Deadly Dragons to Expert+ or Magic Damage 125%
  2. So the REGs Version of Better City Entrances was only for Touring Carriage Compatibility? (just need some high maintenance clarification, just woke up)
  3. Guess what happened to me while playing Skyrim last night? As I was playing, I heard the little sound Windows makes when a dialog pops up. The game didn't CTD but it lost focus and my G13 switched from its custom Skyrim Profile... So, I alt-tab and staring at me from the screen is a little box telling me that my OS is running low on available memory and that it needs to close some programs. Curiously this was about a day after I posted this: Windows Page File and Skyrim Load Times on this forum. So, I back-tracked a little bit and re-enable paging file BUT on my SSD and at a custom size (8 GB min/8 GB max). Pretty much what Octopuss had recommended in that thread. Now, Phazer11 linked to an awesome Tom's Hardware article which I found very informative and it wisely presented the "debate" about SSD's and read/writes as well as the paging file and performance topic. But, it appears that my PC needs a paging file or Windows flips out like a wuss. The reason I need to have the page file on my SSD is that if I place it on my mechanical drive it slows load times down horribly for me in Skyrim. We are talking 10-15 seconds max versus ~2 minutes+ or so. So, I don't know if any of this is applicable to you Rootsrat, but I thought the timing very coincidental and possibly relevant. So...if you haven't already...clearing/resetting your windows page file may help possibly.
  4. Hey, Osmodius! Well, there's no accounting for taste, so please don't take any of the expressed preferences personally; the very fact that your hard work has added yet more choices for everyone in the community necessitates the need for people to figure out what they like from the bounty that you and other modders have provided.
  5. I also discovered, and this was before I uninstalled Death Alternatives that the mod caused Danica Pure-Spring to no longer be capable of training in restoration. Her voice file is deactivated for the appropriate line but the training interface never pops up. This issue persisted after the uninstall, I suspect her behavior has been permanently changed in this save game. There wasn't anything earth-shakingly enlightening in the mod authors response. The gist of it is...he's accepting that some really rough edges will continue to persist and not be addressed or resolved. I'm fine with that, but it's not something I'd continue to use if that is his design goal.
  6. Well, sorry for the 20 questions, just wanted to establish a baseline, that was before I realized you've been sround the block a time or two before :p I'm trying to recall the chronology of the problem and how I encountered it, what's make it less than ideal is that I started a new game after a lot of mod changes and a new ENB. So, any one of those things could be a factor: -save game borked -ENB related file corrupt/borked -a borked mod -a page file reset
  7. Have you rebooted your PC to see if the issue goes away? Do you use SSME/Sheson miracle? Do you use ENBoost and have it properly configured? Did you try to reduce some of "stuff" in the background while playing? (you have a lot more running in the background then I do, I see) Have you verified your PC is malware free? EDIT: LOL, I just noticed who is posting. :p I've had this issue before, it cleared up though and never returned, I did clear out all my enb stuff and verified the issue wasn't save game specific. Ultimately I never found out exactly what caused it, but I think having that problem is what prompted me to start using page files again as a possible solution.
  8. Yeah, all in all the textures preference is a non-issue because you can just use vanilla or whatever texture replacer of your choosing. Yes, I agree about the 1k Textures...they don't hold up well with higher quality textures. I actually like the green in Falkreath but I have since started using "vanilla" textures because after Rustic Windows, I can't stand default or VW's window textures.
  9. I can't help but think some of the "outlines" are poorly rendered reflections from the water maybe? Texture aliasing aka shimmering has always been an issue, I started using Temporal Aliasing just to rid myself of that issue. Yes, TA does cause its own share of minor visual glitches but I can tolerate it far more than the crawling textures/edges. Also, if Bloom isn't at really high levels of intensity, most TA artifacting is pretty limited.
  10. I don't mind the lack of clutter in the interiors, but if the new textures appear too pristine you can choose vanilla instead. I visualize contemporary Winterhold as being mostly new construction so I don't mind the fresh look. As for missing the presence of hay bales and such things in college, I always wondered why that place would be so trashy. I much prefer magical "junk" clutter for the college versus hay and empty wine bottles, etc. But, it's all a matter of taste, I used to not like the interior changes to Inns but all my critical points were addressed in subsequent releases. I now prefer the visual distinctions between locations now...before everything was a cloned copy.
  11. Well, as much as it pained me to let go of the idea, I uninstalled Death Alternative - Your Money or Your Life per instructions, still had to run the SaveTool script cleaner to remove quite a few #'s DAYMoYL related script orphans. All is well with my game, I usually never resort to such extremes without simply starting over...but I really don't feel like starting another character -I like my current game. My reasons? Five "defeats" and 3 of the five were glitched or weird in some way or another... Firstly, sometimes I'd be hit one time and <boom> my character would enter "death alternative" mode. Not saying the mod caused that, but it made for a very disjointed experience. I'm playing on Adept (I am using YASH's YASH_CombatAI, YASH_ImprovedClasses and YASH_OpenEncounterZones) but getting attacked from a distance by a Frost Spider while I am on horseback and immediately keeling over seems rather much. But that would be fine except for how the rest of it unfolds. Here's some of the scenarios* I ran into problems with: Frostbite Spider attack while I was on horseback outside Ivarstead: I am rescued by the Priest from Temple of Mara but the screen is completely black except for the UI elements although all the dialog and interaction works...in the dark. Reloading after save does nothing, have to revert to earlier save. Fort Greenwall Bandits Attack on approach: I succumb to vastly outnumbered enemies. Vilkas/Farkas of the Companions spawn in a rescue attempt (I think?) after the fadeout (my character is a member of the Companions) The two brothers almost immediately get in a losing fight with the Greenwall Bandits. Meanwhile, my totally naked character gets engaged in a conversation with a bandit involving my gear recovery...seems very unrealistic and disjointed. Shroud Hearth Barrows dungeon lock out: This one really sucked. My character was overwhelmed by Draugr in the room that locks you inside until you clear it out and trip the lever. Everything works as intended, I awake dressed in old Draugr armor with my gear hidden somewhere in the dungeon...but I can't proceed further into the dungeon because the gate has blocked off the part of the dungeon I need to delve into and I have no way to open it without cheating. (which I will never use a console command to progress a game, ruins it for me totally) So, three out five defeats had problems. It makes me sad but the mod is still very much a work in progress. For now, I'm more interested in playing the game then testing mods, so I have removed and cleaned Death Alternatives from my saved game. * there was one other "fail" death but it involved being in werewolf form in the initial part of the Underforge Companion Quest line.
  12. ! There should be at least 8 items in top level of that folder: interface (folder) meshes (folder) scripts (folder) seq (folder) textures (folder) Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp Hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation.esp ...and MO's meta.ini If you never extracted the BSA, I'll have a reference list shortly. It's been a while since I installed IAv7...I'm checking to see if it comes as BSA. (as a matter of practice, I no longer extract BSA's but there's still a few remaining in my build where I did) Unextracted BSA: <---default recommended install Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp Hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation.esp Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.bsa Hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation.bsa and MO's meta.ini...
  13. 1920x1080 :) I'm pretty happy with the performance versus visual quality. I also use Serentity ENB (Extreme performance version) It is very nice and more "smoothly" polished than Minimal ENB but the FPS is not as good, maybe 5 less FPS on average.
  14. There's a back and forth debate ongoing, I don't worry too much about it tbh, but I don't defrag my SSD either. :)
  15. So, your bears have "outlines' or do you have outlines when skinny dipping in water? O.o This isn't a No Glowing Edges thing is it? I looked at your screenies...what ENB preset do you use and does it have water effects set up? I use WATER as well and Minimal ENB...
  16. No, I know what you mean though, some people have like 500 things running in the background, etc. It's always been talk/debate in geekdom about how windows memory page file is/is not a performance hog. For most people it is a non-issue and a no-brainer everyone should use it, but I think in some narrowly defined situations it could and does slow things down. To be clear, none of these were infinite loading screens...just consistently longer than normal load times. I get real used to how the game plays "normally" for me...so when it deviates I start looking for a reason why. That's a good idea about manually adjusting the page file size, I will probably do that so I can keep it on my SSD...and that should resolve the issue I suspect. That's definitely a concern, and what prompted me to originally not use paging on the SSD way back when I got it.
  17. Well, turning off paging resulted in load times of 20 seconds or less in the areas that were taking over a minute before. My guess is that windows was swapping data during loads when it was not truly necessary, I certainly wasn't running out of memory. Page files take up a decent amount of drive space, and SSD disk space on my budget anyway is very limited, so a page file on the conventional drive just slows things down too much and completely mitigates the advantage of SSD in some respects. So, when I had a page file on my SSD, I had no issue EXCEPT my drive had less available space, this is how the problem went undiscovered because just a week or so ago I turned paging off for the SSD (don't need a page file on each drive, after all).
  18. Expand Object LODs by tamu75 Downloading this now...looks interesting, am planning to use it alongside of The Skyrim Distance Overhaul LOD Improvement by Grieche (I don't use the esp's). I will probably have SDO have priority over EOL... Scratch that, it looks like EOL offers more coverage than SDO. As of right now, my LOD solution looks like this: Expand Object LODs Detailed Tree LOD for Realistic Aspens Skyrim High Definition LODs + Skyrim High Definition LODs Dragonborn https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=x6CmOsVI4NQ
  19. Similar, but different. Here's what Sheson said a few posts back:
  20. Awesome information and clarification and elaboration, Aiyen, thanks! Here's a screenie I took a few moments ago in Ivarstead it early evening: This location makes it really easy to observe the horizon line.
  21. Many of us who play Skyrim with an ENB will have noticed at one time or another a really ugly line, sometimes quite defined other times very smudgy, but a line nonetheless, that marks the distant horizon in the game in areas where you can see at a great distance. Both JawZ, who knows a bit about the inner workings of lighting, ENB and Skyrim and Ramccoid, who has done a number of mods involving textures and meshes for Skyrim, have worked on the issue in the past and more recently. Unfortunately both fell short of total success in solving the problem: Ramccoid: The Sky Line or Ripple Bug is not actually a bug, it's the side effect of having colours in the sky. Colours that produce dramatic sunsets, etc., these are called colour bands and are the culprit for the lines you see when examining the sky. The only way to remove these and give a clear lineless sky, are simply to remove the colour and that is basically what this mod does. So if you like really dramatic coloured dusks and dawns then this isn't for you. JawZ: If you were to apply a grey color to all vertices you would lose the ENB sky separation which is Horizon, Middle and Top intensity and curve. I have already made such a version way back when I first released my atmosphere.nif edited mesh but as it proved to limit the functionality of any ENB preset I decided not to release it. It will also remove the separation of sky sections inside the Creation Kit/default game rendering as well. For best compatibility on how the game engine as well as ENB is setup it's best to leave the original vertex coloring intact. Red = Horizon Green = Middle Sky Blue = Top sky And then just optimize it either through "just" making the color ordering better or add in more vertices to better control the blend between the primary colors. Reason for me not uploading a greyscaled or one colored atmosphere.nif was also because of limiting the amount of users complaining about the removal of the Sky sections (even if I would have 3 options then and explain in detail the difference between, not the first time that happens sadly) but such a mesh allows for a far better color banding control and would suite screenarchers very well I would think. -------------------------------------------------------- So, in summary, as it stands right now, the best way to deal with the Skyline/Horizon Mesh Issue according to JawZ...is to avoid exacerbating it by keeping the "original vertex coloring intact". This sounds like good advice but far too many presets out there don't handle the colors accordingly so you end up with some really ugly distant skylines.
  22. Iron & Stone, but just today switched to Copper, the Iron/Stone was fine but I wanted a richer color. The other I use is Black and Gold.
  23. To confound all of us and make Arthmoor look good!
  24. Pottery Recolor by JadeRoyale Every now again after the 1200th hour of playing Skyrim, it's nice to freshen things up and live a little. No, I don't mean go outside and take a walk or go hiking <shudder> ! I mean something more rewarding like changing up the color of the clay pots in the game.
  25. My Specs: Intel i3570k,Radeon HD6850 1 GB VRAM8 GB System RAM, Windows 7/64 bitSanDisk 120 GB SSD1 TB Standard HDD I normally allow Windows to manage page files, default settings, etc. But when I do something on my PC, I usually tailor my whole PC around that something, in this case a game called Skyrim. When I installed an SSD as my primary drive (OS/game is installed on it) I did turn off the page file located on the SSD initially and left the other in place on the conventional drive. Then over the course of starting to play Skyrim and tweaking, I dispensed with page files completely most likely after reading some compelling arguments supporting such a move. Everything was fine. Yet sometime in the period of intervening months, and after the Sheson Revolution and inherent ENBoost stability, I turned paging back on. It took me a while to notice that my load times (leaving Whiterun to the open world was like 1 minute or so!) started getting longer. My Papyrus was clear, no massive scripts and no silly uGrids or ridiculous textures sizes, WTF was going on? Then I thought about page files and what I had originally suspected about them. <eureka!> Sure enough, it appears windows paging to disk is slowing my load times dramatically.
