GUIDE General Oblivion Support
MonoAccipiter replied to hishutup's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
Terribly glad SynthetikHD ended up helping you with the guide, hishutup. I really wanted to help back then, but I was going through a really bad period in my life, so I was right to keep from getting too involved as I'd just end up disappointing in any case. If you end up needing some help in the future, send me a message and hopefully my platter won't be as filled as it was.- 459 replies

Mono's Lore Friendly Equipment Pack - Feedback
MonoAccipiter replied to MonoAccipiter's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Probably going to be looking at rebalancing the Prototype Riot Armor and Defaced Ranger Armor from ADAM next. The PRT is ridiculously OP and shouldn't be better than the Riot Armors IMO (it's currently way more powerful than the best Riot Armor from Lonesome Road). More details on that in the opening post. EDIT: Added my pistol to the pack. -
Bashed Patch Purple plugins
MonoAccipiter replied to mcshame's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
Purple plugins should be marked with the nomerge tag, meaning they should be activated again after making a Bashed Patch. WF shouldn't have anything to do with optional plugins in MO. -
"Meta-science" (by which I assume you actually mean pseudo-science, because that's what you're describing) and metaphysics (an actual field of study in which the attempt at understanding reality is made from arguments that can logically be proven without any reference to reality, such as the famous, though slightly incorrect sentence: dubio, ergo cognitum, ergo sum) are two very different things. Using examples about con men trying to prove natural theories (i.e. relating to the nature of things) in a cup as an example of why you don't give this field any weight just proves my entire point so well that I shouldn't even have to explain further. You're so clearly being dismissive (when you compare it to some guy with "cold fusion in a cup") of something you have very little understanding. You're even ridiculing it by comparing it to obvious cases of pseudo-science, which again is a completely different thing. I find it incredibly sad that you think of what is, again, a 2600 year old science/art still practiced, with a massive influence on pretty much every form of human knowledge from physics to politics, as the same thing as some arbitrary person making a completely arbitrary claim. However, since you seem to have placed me in the same box as people who believe in the healing property of channeling universal energy, or any other pseudo-science, I will talk no further of this. I'm simply sorry you feel this way, and feel you lay an unfair and incorrect assessment on a field of study. @Z: This is pretty much the same belief I hold to. I simply don't chose to dismiss what hasn't been described by science yet because I believe that science functions much like a map, having its appearance changed as new features of the terrain are discovered. I find it unlikely that there are such things as ghosts too, but subscribing completely to the current scientific paradigm seems as unwise as ignoring it (which I don't, I enjoy reading and believing in scientific discoveries and my world view is heavily based upon them). I disagree the God is depicted the same way in almost every culture though, that's an ignorant and easily falsifiable statement. Most of the Abrahamitic religions have the same image as the Mediterranean religions because they influence each other through art and tradition (hence Zeus is often depicted in the same way as the classical God). Oriental religions, or ancient religions from the South American region have very different idols, art and mythological depictions. You go on to say "since all of the evidence of 'ghosts' have logical explanations", this is essentially a logical fallacy (though I actually agree that it is most likely the case) as you're making the assumption that since whatever cases you've seen have "logical explanations", it is logical to assume that all cases have "logical explanations", and that simply does not follow. Your last statement I completely agree (about Occam's Razor) with however, it's just important not to assume that most likely equates to thus. A belief in ghost doesn't necessarily have to be a faith-based belief either, though that depends on how you define faith-based. If you think it necessarily needs to have its progenitor be a faith/religion, you are wrong, as it's mostly originated from seeing an inexplicable event and making an assumption about its nature. If, however you mean to say that it's a faith based belief because it's in nature based off of having faith in a theory which at best is an educated guess at an explanation, you are correct, but you'd be wise to remember that that's how almost every scientific theory began. Observation leads into making connections, which leads into postulating a theory. I'm of the same mind as you, but I think our approach to the matter (which I find extremely important in this case) is fundamentally different.

GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

I play on the hardest difficulty, but really, just play at whatever seems to suit the pace you want to progress at. The wonder of good game design is that the progression of difficulty is linear, hence you have pretty much the same experience as long as you play close to whatever your skill level is. The DT system doesn't change for example (you'll still need high caliber weaponry to take on Deathclaws for example) and a lot of the game experience honestly doesn't rely that much on the difficulty multiplier. Keep in mind that the DLCs are bound to be slightly harder in either case. I recommend playing them in the order HH OWB DM LS, but you can swap Dead Money and Old World Blues if that's your preference. DM is recommended for level 20+ characters and OWB for 15+ though, which is something to consider. I also enjoy doing them in the order I suggested because it's more enjoyable for me to get some backstory on the characters you meet in DM (which you get while playing through OWB). It's also nice to have some motivation to return to the Big Empty (OWB's area) at a later point because there's a really difficult enemy there you'll probably have troubles with until you're really high level. -

Awesome! That would be the M16A2. Went for the name because the Service Rifle already in the game looks like a wooden version of the M16. I've just started a new character myself, who goes by the name of George Byron. So named in honor of the great poet who lost his life in the Greek War of Independence, though from disease, not combat. Something I considered fitting as I was going for a Mr. House (independence) playthrough. Here he is posing with his gunslinger mustache in Goodsprings: What better choice than the Classic Pack for someone named after a classic poet? -
"If it is there you can measure it." This doesn't follow at all. You're making several rather large assumptions about the capacity of human ability (i.e. the reliability of our senses, the ability to discern reality from non-reality, the limitation of language upon the complexity of nature). The largest problem with metaphysics today is that people dismiss it as easily as you do. Somehow the general attitude towards philosophy seems to be that everyone can practice it properly, while other sciences requires a more rudimentary understanding. I actively follow and believe in the ability of science to improve upon our understanding of the world, but I don't see why that has to exclude views outside of the general paradigm. Frankly, I find it rather annoying that a 2600 year old science is treated as if it's a fun hobby.

GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

No idea about that sorry. I stick to the keyboard numbers myself. An update on the hand issue. Turns out that Roberts uses the same texture for the body as the hands, which happens to mean it's about 256 pixels for each. Hiding the lefthand.nif and righthand.nif files in MO forced the game to use FCO's textures which have much, much higher resolution. The drawback is that the edge between the hand-mesh and the body mesh become rather apparent, but due to the downright awful seam between heads and bodies, I'm unlikely to run around naked in any case. -

My heart leaped from its laden chariot for a moment there. -
That's pretty much what scientific theory is all about, and why dismissing philosophy as a thing of the past, like Stephen Hawking did in one of his later books (which was rather funny, as he made a fairly elementary mistake when attempting to move onto the realm of metaphysics later on in the same book) is rather foolish. Science, and the scientific method as a whole has always been evolving, and even the idea of looking for the exception that invalidates your premise instead of looking for more proof is a rather new idea partially popularized by Karl Popper's work. @EssArrBee: Wouldn't it be possible that a 4D being could cast a 3D shadow, since we cast a 2D one? Seem to remember reading about this somewhere. @Z: I can't help but feel like that's a false dichotomy. I'm not religious myself, but assuming that the only other option is thinking that everything there is to know about the universe is within the grasp of human understanding seems like stretching it too far in the other end again.

You shouldn't need to run MO as an admin, that will most likely just lead to unwanted issues. -
Well, I'm not really sure what I believe in when it comes to ghosts. Not even sure I'll ever be, and I don't see how I would be able to make up my mind about it when it seems perfectly logical to me that there should be things beyond the human capacity for understanding. Being more-than-averagely interested in philosophy, I think that it's pretty strange how much a lot of science attributes to the validity of human observation. Aliens... I find it unlikely that there aren't any other life forms in such a vast universe, but I'm not too sold on them having visited Earth. Why would these extremely advanced crafts, that theoretically would have the ability to defy what we think of as the laws of physics, keep crashing all the time? Coincidences have a tendency to seem more unnerving than they really should though, and have happened all through history in several different situations. Take Poe's The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket and the events transpiring after the Mignonette sank in 1884, both stories, though only the first fictional, ending with a sailor named Richard Parker being eaten by his starving shipmates.

How to play the Star Wars Imperial March on a frog.

I had the pleasure of seeing Oslo's Philharmonic Orchestra perform the entirety of John Williams' Star Wars suite a couple of years back. Doesn't quite compare to this, but it was still a rather enjoyable experience. -
For someone so eager to point out logical fallacies in the arguments of others, you sure like your suppression techniques.

The edit wasn't incorrect, but it didn't really fix anything either, as we went from installing two incorrect patches, to installing nothing at all (as monk56 correctly observed). At least with my edit you could launch the game. Now I'm not 100% sure if the patch that's in neither of the folders is compatible with both the vanilla game and TTW, or just TTW, as I don't use RWLE myself, but I'd think that would be the patch we are looking for. EDIT: I've changed the guide to include the NVBII patch, as I looked it over in FNVEdit and it only touched the new worldspace, as I thought. -

I think the idea is that by adding via scripts you can have multiple mods touching the same leveled list without one overwriting the other, but using the bashed patch is another way to fix this as WB will add the contents of both versions of the leveled list to a merged version in the bashed patch, hence either way works.
