Fallout New Vegas - any STEP-like modding guides out there?
rootsrat replied to rootsrat's topic in General Game Discussion
So would you recommend installing the above first (I did that anyway in my current install), then install fixes (think I will go for Mission Mojave - it seems to have compatibility patches for other stuff I'd like in my game, like Project Nevada, EVE, WMX etc.), then texture packs, then remaining mods - and finally Unified HUD to incorporate all the HUD changes? That would be order I'd go for. -
Fallout New Vegas - any STEP-like modding guides out there?

Thanks for your tips, SRB - I'll have a look at the suggested mods! I followed Gopher's guide, but I think it's outdated now, as I get very frequent CTD's with his suggested set up. ::EDIT:: Hahah, looking at Mission Mohave Plus description: Does this ring a bell? :D I think we have FNV's STEP equivalent here! -
:( Secret of Monkey Island is the game I learned English from in the first place, was about 10 or so... I spent nights and nights with dictionary in my hand trying to translate it! It's an end of an era to me...

Aaah thanks for bumping this :) I totally forgot I was going to check this mod out!

The thread name says it all. Is anyone aware of any reliable modding guides to Fallout New Vegas, similar to STEP? Not so extensive necessarily, but reliable and good enough to tell me what good mods to install in which order to get everything working? I know of Gopher's FNV guide, but it's quite old now. I was looking for something that would look at some newer mods, but couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

I would be against this mod in STEP. It's not really relevant to the mandate - it just "fixes" couple of inconsistent bugs related to hardware (application shutdown + media control). I can't see it being part of the actual STEP. It could possibly be recommendation for users that DO have the problem, but part of STEP? On what basis?

SKYRIMLE Realistic Teeth ( by Anton0028 and Brumbek)
rootsrat replied to DCS78's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
No.Then I see no reason not to use it ... as long as it is not a performance hit and does not stick out like a sore thumb. Details matter, no? Any other reasons not to use? The more STEP grows the more mods that are going to be used and the more VRAM/RAM in turn. I see this mod as "not needed" and simply adds to the users who are already with limited VRAM...not to mention the 3GB cap that some are hitting. If this is added to STEP, I'll just simply pass it up though. I'm on a 1GB limit with my VRAM and adding unnecessary mods that make no noticeable difference from my point of view is a waste of that precious memory on my end.Definitely a good point; however, this mod may not add even a single MB to VRAM ... ? I am inclined, regardless, to keep this one and the plethora of other mods much like this that are already in STEP in mind for Extreme STEP. If we don't consider this one appropriate for Baseline, then several others should go onto the chopping block as well. Fair enough I guess. You have a point there, z. Let's keep it for extreme STEP then. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 -

For my 16:9 monitor it was 68 as far as I remember. I play with 75 and I find it perfect. Sometimes I notice slight stretching of objects/actors/whatever's on the screen - when they come right to the edge of my screen (that's where the fisheye effect starts). It's not disturbing though, and I only see it when I remember it's there :) For config I'd recommend using little program called Skyrim Configurator (easily found on Nexus) or just console command set fov to XX, where XX is the 2-digit value. -
OT-ing a little, but - well, I know the basics, as I am already making that Polish translation of STEP (it's slow... lack of time!), so I guess I'll figure it out quickly :)

As soon as I get some time, I'll get to it. Never done it before, so expect some exploratory creationism ;)

SKYRIMLE Realistic Teeth ( by Anton0028 and Brumbek)
rootsrat replied to DCS78's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Exactly. Nobody's saying that this mod is bad or anything, just over the top. Size of a mod should not be a factor imo (disc space is cheap), could be a comment about it when installing. It's not about the disc space really, it's about VRAM usage I think. -
I would like to suggest 2 mods for this release: Disease Descriptions for the Immersive Adventurer by WilliamImm - I don't even think there is any need to vouch for this mod :) - I do vouch for it though. Realistic wolf howls - this one really adds to immersion. I've been using it for ages and it can be considered as tested - no issues.Â

IMHO - this is not worth installing. Personally, I don't really pay attention to characters' teeth. Do you? Be honest, how many times did you ever look at their TEETH? I don't see any reason to install this mod, it's a waste of performance to me. Over the top. -
Hi guys. I have a problem with running Wrye Bash for more than 1 game. I have Skyrim installed and WB runs fine for that. I have recently installed Fallout NV, however the game was purchased in Poland and installs to '...\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas enplczru' folder. For some reason it is not detecting FNV during installation and I have to use "Extra Folder Location" option. When I then run WB from FNV\Mopy folder it runs for Skyrim anyway. When I select Options > Game, FNV is not on the list. I tried running with -o argument and -g argument, as suggested in Read Me, however this did not work. Can anyone advise how can I get WB working with more than one game? I mod my games heavily and I use Bashed Patch for levelling lists, I can't imagine running FNV witout it! ::EDIT:: Please ignore this, I totally forgot there is a separate variation for FNV called Wrye Flash! It's been a while since I played Fallout games :)

I have more technical question. Can Mod Organizer be used with more than 1 game at the same time?
-
Yes, this is only happening when playing Skyrim.
-
Do you use BYOG (ACE plugin) mod? Or in fact any other mod that slows down levelling rate? This may be a cause for skillbooks not working (i.e. it does not raise skill because the background "points" you get from reading the book are not enough to take the skill to next level). Not sure about -35 lockpicking skill. I use LO and I never came across this problem, so it shouldn't be this mod. Economics of Skyrim is the only mod that I know that would touch blacksmithing tutorial quests, due to workstation rental functionality it introduces.

Hi guys. I'm having a really annoying problem with Skyrim. Whenever I play using headphones, after a while I get some crackling sounds, kind of like a white noise. Severity varies - sometimes it's a crack or two and it stops and sometimes it sounds like it's blowing up my headphones and it cuts off whole sound. Sometimes restarting the game helps, but sometimes I need to mess around, i.e. change my sound card mode (more on this later) or even restart my PC... When I play using speakers it also happens but not as often and I seem to be able to play longer before it happens. I have Sound Blaster Fatal1ty Platinum sound card and Creative 2.1 speaker set. For headphones it's usually about 30-40 minutes of gameplay and on speakers it's much longer, sometimes it does not happen at all. My sound card has 3 modes - Entertainment, Gaming and Audio Creation. After turning the game off, the crackling sound doesn't stop, I need to the card's mode - this seems to "reset" the sound and the crackling stops. Although, as mentioned - sometimes it comes back straight away when I switch the mode back to gaming and then the only solution is to restart my PC. I read somewhere that Sound Blaster cards haven't got the best compatibility with Skyrim and that lowering the sound quality helps, so I tried lowering it from 24-bit 48000Hz to 16-bit 24000 Hz, but that doesn't seem to help at all. It's driving me nuts, I've spent long long time sorting out my Skyrim installation (STEP + SkyRe + many other mods) and when I'm finally able to play I get this! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. P.S. All my drivers are updated, I have Windows 7 Home. My system: AMD Phenom 2 6-core 3.2 GHz, ASUS GeForce GTX660 2GB VRAM, 4 GB system RAM.

OK, more comparisons, done properly this time (sponsored by a good nights sleep!) 1 - ISW only, 2 - ISW + Webs. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â To me, ISW + Webs is a winner. I like new spider eggs textures from ISW, but I'm also keen on new, more subtle textures for actual web offered by Webs.Â
-
Apologies for the triple post. I've just noticed that ISW contains more textures than Webs, so maybe we could keep ISW and install Webs after it, so that ISW overwrites vanilla and then Webs overwrite ISW, while keeping other ISW to Vanilla changes. I'll do another comparison tomorrow.
-
And more: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â EDIT Damn it, I can see something went wrong and not all the screens are correct - Some screens that should represent Webs mod are identical to Vanilla for some reason... Not sure how this has happened, it's late and I can barely see is my only excuse... I may recreate the comparison tomorrow, if I find some time. Sorry about that. Saying all that, after seeing it all in game, I vote for Webs - to me it's much better than ISW - I'm switching now.
