Lots of updates today. Oblivion and Skyrim-style Daedric sets (I'm curious to see how they compare to the Daedric texture mod included in STEP which looks pretty amazing imo) as well as "fixed" normals. I'd like to hear CaBaL's thoughts regarding the new normals since he obviously knows what he's talking about. I think the textures look pretty great for the most part, but I'm also worried about the VRAM impact this mod could have... I mean it's like 800mb worth of files for everything!

Very nice... will be tracking that. -

I'd settle for a 64-bit executable... though from what I understand that would be quite the undertaking. I'd laugh if Elder Scrolls VI come out and still did not support more than 4GB of RAM. -

Yeah, he did improve Markarth a significant amount, but it's still there. -

Lighting Placement Fix has issues due to the game's limitation on number of dynamic light sources. One good example is Markarth. There are too many light sources so as you pan your camera around you'll see lights turning on and off. I also noticed this happening in Dragonsreach. Unfortunate because it's a really great mod. -
In addition to ice, I'm very curious to know how the caves from Snow and Rocks HD (I use the 4k resolution version) compare to the textures already in TPC.

I really really like Expanded Towns and Villages, but out of all ~200 mods I'm using it's the only one that results in a noticeable FPS impact. It's only 3-5 fps when looking at one of the villages affected by the mod (from a distance with a high FOV), but still. It seems to be pretty CPU-intensive.

ACCEPTED Enhanced Skyrim Factions - Companions Guild (by DreamKing)
JudgmentJay replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
This is the way all faction lines should be imo. Take note, Bethesda. -
Discussion thread: Footprints by jonwd7 Wiki Link Adds dynamic footprints in snow (other textures such as mud and sand coming soon) unique to each creature type. I'm pretty amazed this hasn't been created before now, but this will be a big hit I'm sure.

I started following this mod the minute it showed up on the Nexus. I knew it had alot of potential just from the first few screenshots, and he's added a ton of stuff just in the past few days. Looks very promising.

DROPPED Shadow Striping Fix (by forum42087)
JudgmentJay replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Actually I discovered that Whiterun Lighting Fix is unnecessary if you just do the following .ini tweak: In Skyrim.ini, under [General], add fFlickeringLightDistance=8192. Completely eliminated the light popping for me. -
Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
JudgmentJay replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
If you have the VRAM/GPU power for it, setting Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling in nVidia Inspector to 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling greatly reduces the shimmer you're talking about. Then you can turn regular AA back on and have the best of both worlds. -
+1 for TPC being the clear winner. I was always iffy about re-defined dungeons.

SKYRIMLE 83Willows-1 EYE OPEN- creep Nightmother and Coffins
JudgmentJay replied to Staind716's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Doesn't seem to be banned to me. EDIT: Nevermind! But I can still download her mods. Weird. Man, Nexus is too strict. -
Gyro's Planned List of Mods
JudgmentJay replied to Gyro's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I see you like player homes... I highly recommend Gleaming Falls, which is in my opinion the best-looking player home from an aesthetic standpoint. While I prefer the house version, the shelter version is the more unique of the two. -
DROPPED Skyrim Flora Overhaul (by vurt)
JudgmentJay replied to JudgmentJay's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
TreesHD provides the vanilla meshes for pine trees and overwrites the ones in question from Vurt's, so yeah, in your case you wouldn't see the issue. The problem though is that the current STEP guide specifically says to NOT install the TreesHD meshes. -

Nice. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed a problem! It really looks so much better without those three meshes. Night and day in my opinion. -
DROPPED Skyrim Flora Overhaul (by vurt)
JudgmentJay replied to JudgmentJay's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Yeah I don't believe there is a Skyrim Flora Overhaul thread which is why I made this one. I can agree on the logic behind making the trees more sparse, but in my opinion Vurt's just makes it look bad. Look at the trees on the left in the first Vurt's picture in my original post. The foliage looks like flat slabs instead of actual branches/pine needles. -

I deleted the 3 treepineforest .nif files in Meshes/landscape/trees before installing, and the result was a pretty drastic improvement. Looking around at the trees I saw that the bark on some of the trees changed, but that doesn't matter because that bark is replaced by TreesHD. Vurt's modified: -
Discussion thread: Skyrim Flora Overhaul by vurt Wiki Link Dropped in v3.0. I wasn't sure exactly where to put this, but I have a question/concern about this mod. It's obviously the best vegetation-related mod currently, but I noticed something recently. Is it just me or does the foliage on Vurt's pine trees look really bad compared to vanilla? While the coloring on Vurt's is better, the vanilla pine foliage looks much fuller and cleaner in general. It almost looks like Vurt's trees are a mixture of LOD and fully-rendered or something. I can see large solid-looking chunks in Vurt's. Look at the tops of the trees in particular. I was looking at screenshots on the mod page, and this is visible there as well so I don't think it's a problem on my end... Thoughts? SKYRIMLE aMidianBorn steel plate armor by CaBaL - frihyland
JudgmentJay replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
The leather armor retexture looks really nice. The Iron/Banded Iron is already covered by STEP (Not sure which mod exactly), but I'm willing to guess that the aMidianBorn texture is superior. -
SKYRIMLE Wheat height/Chicken egg/Whiterun ligh Fix
JudgmentJay replied to auroreb's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Ever since I noticed the lighting glitch that the Whiterun braziers have, Whiterun Lighting Fix is a 100% necessary mod for me. Might be worth noting that BOSS puts it near the top of the list, but in order for it to work it has to be loaded after RCRN, and probably any other lighting mod that modifies light sources. A similar one worth looking at is Volrath Dragonreach Brazier Fix. This one makes it so that the braziers inside Dragonsreach actually give off light. It annoyed me that it was so dark in the entry way and this mod fixes that nicely. As for Wheat Height Fix, I tried it out, but for some reason the wheat was still clipping after harvesting so I uninstalled. The clipping was really the only reason I wanted it. -
I definitely like the look of these more than those from Tattered Banners, thanks for pointing it out!

Skyrim fails to load a save that uses > 2GB RAM
JudgmentJay replied to Nyven's question in General Skyrim LE Support
In regard to your third point, is that VRAM -> RAM buffer part of the 4GB allocation limit? And yeah, it's pretty hard to find solid information on this subject. -
Skyrim fails to load a save that uses > 2GB RAM
JudgmentJay replied to Nyven's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yeah the more I think about it the more that sounds ridiculous. If that were truly the case, it would be impossible for people to play games on surround setups as their VRAM usage would eat up all the available allocation.
