[split] Beards (by Hvergelmir)
thunderclam replied to thunderclam's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I was using UNP as per SR-LE (the SR UNP is gone) for females. I used Better Beast Races but dropped it in favor of Jazzjr's Coverkhajiit bodies (they are the best out there, imo) and his Argonian retexture. I am not using any body mods for males. A face mod called DCE, but I've had the beard issue before and have tried running without DCE which fixes nothing, the only way to fix beards is to drop Beards (I think, would have to double check). The only other thing I can think of is the custom skeletons. That said, I had this problem on the install of Skyrim I was playing before finding SR. I did not use DCE or XPM32 or anything like that back then and still experienced this issue. I never did figure out a fix for the beards, but deleting some hair meshes in the Skyrim data folder fixed the hair problem caused (I think) by installing More Realistic Hair and then another hair mod. With Mod Organizer, I'm not really sure what to do because the meshes aren't changed and disabling the textures doesn't help. Even running with my vanilla profile retains the hair bugs. -
For this mod, I get a very strange issue that the modmaker (rudely and vaguely) attributes to "shader issues" with no further explanation. I have posted about this in the SR forum and it seems related to an issue I'm having in general with my hair textures not properly attaching to my hairlines. If I understand it correctly, hair in Skyrim is modeled to have two texture layers and there's some sort of transparency issue where there's a layer of nothing between those layers in the hairs in my game, giving them a very bizarre aspect. A similar problem seems to be affecting beards. Observe: Beards https://i.imgur.com/RlYLN1Gh.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/Bt9swTTh.jpg Hair https://i.imgur.com/rz4cF84h.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/OGgwJH4h.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/4TJUeB8h.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/AOfyA96h.jpg Anyone have better advice for this issue than "shaders" or "it's not my problem"? That's all I get from the mod author. I'm sure the issue isn't caused by Beards but it certainly affects this mod.

How did you solve Transparency Anti-Aliasing for shimmering textures?
thunderclam replied to Nearox's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Not using Radeonpro, will look. I never really had to think about my graphic card before. It always worked very nicely for Skyrim. What brought me to SR was all this weird stuff caused by the GPU drivers (I think) as they've updated. Your solution here does seem like a double-edged sword. Right now, with Unreal Cinema, I get 60fps indoors and 40-50 exteriors and it works okay. I haven't seen too much clashing with CoT yet but am sort of concerned about it. If other ENBs are less demanding, it might be better to use one as they seem to pretty much take care of my AA shadow issues (except the fences, have no idea what's up with those). -
I used to use and quite liked RCRN but it came with its share of problems too. Can anyone recommend an ENB that does work nicely with CoT and doesn't require me to reinstall half my texture mods?

How did you solve Transparency Anti-Aliasing for shimmering textures?
thunderclam replied to Nearox's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I think I need to do something similar. I'd like to not use an ENB if possible but right now, using native GPU settings gives me the same issues as Nearox with fences, tree shadows, and grass shadows. I tried .ini hacking for a week before I gave up, reinstalled, and started following SR. I think I'm in over my head with this downsampling stuff. I use a Radeon 6950 as well but have a 32inch Samsung TV as a monitor. I don't know what I can do as far as resolution, but native is 1280x720. -
I did see that thread but didn't really understand. I'll look again. I think the best thing for me to do is go back to not using an ENB if I can.

No. Just SR mixed with SR:LE. For example, I'd used mods like Falskaar and stuff before learning about SR. Before Neovalen dropped most of the mod list in LE, I was cross-referencing mods and versions between the two guides. I avoided anything that I wasn't sure about. I am, however, using SR:LE's ENB (Unreal Cinema) and I'm not sure I like it. Apparently it doesn't play nice with Climates of Tamriel, which I'm using. But I have a Radeon 6950 and I get a lot of weird texture shimmer and stuff with native GPU and driver settings so it seems like I should use an ENB. I have ENBoost going also. My game seems really stable in high-stress areas and I'm getting 40 FPS (minimum) in exteriors. The trouble is, I don't like the ridiculous contrast between the core effect settings.

Fair enough. -
Unreal cinema: SMAA or edge AA ?
thunderclam replied to Quahogs's question in Post-Processing Support
How about telling me how to turn off the weird crap Unreal Cinema (1.16) is doing to my sky with Climates of Tamriel. The actual sky is just a very small circle above the character's head, the rest is faded out ambient light with a few visible clouds and effects. Plus, my sun is strobing at me! Otherwise, this is gorgeous stuff. Way more options to play with than RealVision or SkyRealism but I don't understand what any of them do. :P Ah, learning. -
Is it necessary to rename all the mods? Won't they be listed in the same order, given the profile, as I installed them? Tell me if this procedure will work, so I understand: 1. Close Mod Organizer. 2. Follow STEP guide to making Skyrim vanilla again. 3. Do initial Skyrim config with client, etc as per Skyrim Revisited. 4. Fire up Mod Organizer. 5. Load appropriate profile. 6. Profit. ???

ACCEPTED Enhanced Blood Textures (by dDefinder)
thunderclam replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm not sure what these issues are. You STEP guys are at a pretty high level and it's sometimes difficult to follow why or why not to do something, you know? I've always used EBT so I don't understand why it causes problems. -
I think he's just confused about texture mods being overwritten by their optimized versions. When every texture in a mod has been replace and optimized in an "optimized" version of the mod, the original is grayed out. That's how I do my SR install. Plenty of inactive textures mods and for every one of them, an active -Optimized.
-
I did not think to name them according to the SR guide numbers...
-
Gawd. That actually sounds fairly daunting after all the work I've already put in. I may just live with the issues until I come across something more game-breaking. As it is, I simply can't use a few hairs (or any of the vanilla ones for wood elf male) and otherwise my game is actually running pretty well. I have no idea whether I'll get script-related freezes and the like, but if I do I have a pretty good idea about what I need to get rid of (ex: BFS). I think I'm gonna try running w/o an ENB or with all the extra effects turned off. I don't like the saturation of Unreal Cinema very much and it does weird things to water. Running with "effect off" also has some issues but I actually don't mind vanilla Skyrim. I'll look into SweetFX. One thing I've noticed with and without ENB is some odd shadow flicker on characters, mostly NPCs.

I hadn't tried a new game. I just did. Problem seems to persist. Can you explain how to reinstall Skyrim while preserving my mod profiles step by step? I'd really appreciate that as I feel like every time I've run into trouble with this stuff, it's because I didn't fully understand the "procedure" or it relied on common sense/experience I don't have or something. I don't remember which SR guide I used for DDSopting the vanilla. It was days ago now. I did use LE by accident for a bit before seeing that it's recommended not to use it (why, by the way?). It's been a worthy and taxing obsession since I started the install. Right now, I screwed up AV somehow and it's causing SUM to plant a debug file in my overwrite folder without launching properly. Once I have SUM figured out, some more mods I want running nice and stable, I'll be in business. On a happier note, got my first taste of ENB last night. Wow. Unreal Cinema as per SR:LE but I think I'm going to try RealVision too. Which do you recommend?
-
So I'm finishing up my SR install and I go to download SUM from the Nexus and apparently it's been disappeared. Anyone know what's going on or where I could find another source? EDIT: False alarm. Back up like 15 minutes later. Weird but I guess this is SOLVED. Sorry, guys.

So what do you suppose could cause this? I thought meshes but now I'm not so sure since there are no hair meshes in the MO data file. I don't know why this is also affecting vanilla. It could be not having anti-aliasing or ENB active but I did have this same issue once WITH my GPU AA activated (4x). I fixed it by deleting the hair mesh files or something. I remember distinctly that it had something to do with More Realistic Hairs. I wish I'd left that mod out but oh well. As for the wood elf clipping, that's the problem that bothers me the most. The hairs floating off my characters' heads as in the pictures only affects SOME hairstyles (though most of the vanilla ones now look pretty bad even with retextures due to whatever is causing the "floaty detached" effect). I can live with it. But I REALLY don't like that wood elf thing. I also REALLY don't like that going to vanilla profile doesn't fix the issue because that suggests that whatever went wrong went wrong a lot deeper than my SR install.

Can't edit so here's some more examples with various hair retexture mods (AOF, Yuril's hair mod, Superior Lore-Friendly, and More Realistic Hair). No matter which I use, I have the same weird detached hair pieces on CERTAIN hair styles (including some Apachii ones somehow) and a weird glossiness that I've tested with different light sources with no change. I also figured out the MO Data folder so I looked into which mods change meshes and NONE should affect this. Moreover, I mentioned before that even my Vanilla profile suffers from these problems. I really hope someone knows what's up because the best answer I've gotten online has been that it's a "shader issue" caused by "certain GPUs and ENB". I know for a fact that the hairs weren't doing this before I started installing the SR character appearance mods and I had my AA turned off then with no ENB (just like now) so I don't see how it's that. I don't know the first thing about troubleshooting shader issues, either. :( https://i.imgur.com/mgFG0bKh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OGgwJH4h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/4TJUeB8h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AOfyA96h.jpg

Your Opinion / Knowledge of the following Mod Compatibilities
thunderclam replied to Nearox's question in General Skyrim LE Support
No. FNIS isn't installed until later in the guide. -
Uninstalling mods that I've added in 4.7 doesn't fix the mesh issue. Whatever happened to my male hair meshes, I can't figure out where to find anything to fix it. Apacahii has meshes for its own hairs but shouldn't affect vanilla. I have no idea how to fix this, really. No idea what went wrong. EDIT: If things weren't complicated enough... it seems even launching the game in my vanilla profile replicated the wood elf head clipping and the weird hair detaching/glossiness. I have been testing a few different hair retextures and none of them seem to make much of a difference. There seems to definitely be something wrong with my meshes but there isn't anything in my load order that should do anything to vanilla meshes. I am at a complete loss.

Installing Automatic Variants Packs via MO
thunderclam replied to thunderclam's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm not sure where these videos are. Link? -
I do understand that neck seams and hair clipping happen. I've been modding Skyrim since 2 months after it was released. I am familiar with these issues and their causes. But something in my Skyrim Revisited install is causing these current problems (because I likely installed it incorrectly). Now, hair is messed up in general (detached, wood elf head clipping) even if I disable all of my hair-related and character appearance mods. Why is that? Assuming Neovalen doesn't like to play with seams and clipping, I am trying to figure out what I did wrong here. I think if I was supposed to expect neck seams and clipping issues in SR, the guide would say so.

Installing Automatic Variants Packs via MO
thunderclam replied to thunderclam's question in General Skyrim LE Support
That bit about installing AV packages manually to the Automatic Variants folder is something I missed. Thanks for that. The rest is stuff I already know or doesn't apply. Thanks for that too.
