Octopuss Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Synthetic benchmarks don't mean sh..https://www.palemoon.org/info.shtml"...and does not intend to or aim for high scoring in synthetic tests, as those are invariably not a good representation of typical use of a web browser in the real world."
SynthetikHD Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Umm...what? Please tell me how they don't. If it takes Google Chrome 1.5 seconds to load from a cold start for me, and it takes Pale Moon 4 seconds to load for me, that means something correct? If I open the same 5 tabs and always get 300mb of ram used in Firefox, and open the same 5 tabs in Waterfox and it uses 550mb of ram every time then that means something right?
Greg Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I don't recommend Firefox Beta unless you're willing to put up with some creepy crawlers running around the code.
DoubleYou Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Chrome seems fast because it is always running. Google Chrome starts up at Windows startup, so it seems extremely fast.
GrantSP Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Only if you allow it to. I have it disabled as a service and Chrome is still much faster, IMHO.
DoubleYou Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 True. I have 16GB RAM on my laptop, most of which is never used, so I see little reason to disable it.
GSDFan Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If it takes Google Chrome 1.5 seconds to load from a cold start for me, and it takes Pale Moon 4 seconds to load for me, that means something correct?Doesn't Chrome have lots processes running in the task manager just so it can be fast to start? I don't have it installed so I can't check this, but I seem to remember that.

Having each tab a different process doesn't really make it start faster though.
TechAngel85 Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Just a little update from me. I had to restart FF the other day. It was still only using ~700MB in Safe Mod; however, it crashed for the first time in...I can't remember when! So it was even less stable without the plugins. With only a select for plugins enabled after the restart,DisconnectSuper StartuBlock OriginsPrint EditCookie Manager+The memory shot up to 2GB and I was experiencing UI issues, website display issues, and general slowness. I've disabled Print Edit and Cookie Manager+ and giving it another go with just the three "essential" plugins. I'll report back when I have some results.
SynthetikHD Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Wow, that's pretty crazy Tech. Well something that might help is deleting Disconnect. You don't need it if you have uBlock Origin.Extensions > uBlock Options > 3rd Party Filters > Ctrl+F: "Disconnect" > Check the 3 Disconnect lists > Apply Changes Your welcome.

Now I only have two plugins active. The others I can activate if I ever need them and then deactivate them again when I'm done. With only two plugins active, I'm expecting to see normal memory use again unless this is something broken in FF itself.
phazer11 Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Yeah... something is very wrong with your firefox install from what I'm getting out of your posts. Use something like Revo Uninstaller on it after backing up your bookmarks and such and make a fresh install.
DoubleYou Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If you use sync, disable it, wipe it, whatever. I remember someone else who had their browser hijacked, and with sync back on, it would just keep reinstalling the browser hijack!
TechAngel85 Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 I don't use sync. I'll do a fresh install sometime, it's just a pain so it'll be added to my to-do list. I forget with FF you really need to do a fresh install at least once a year, if not twice.
