How to fix ice covered trees?

Question

So, I installed the CORE Step following the guide to a T.  Everything works, but half the trees show up covered in blocky, unsightly, ICE.

What mod in CORE Step would control this and how can i disable it?  Cheers!

Here's a Pic of what i'm talkin' about:

That's not ice...ugly or not, you are either missing a texture or have a mesh with either a bad sense of direction in finding the path to its texture or just a bad mesh.

Lastly: Black or purple "textures" can also mean your GPU is struggling to load the appropriate textures.

Hmm.. Strange.. I used boss to sort load order.. And I used Wrye bash to make a bashed patch. Neither Mod organizer or Boss or Wrye bash report any errors or conflicts or missing files... How can I track down which texture is missing?? I also only have a GTX275 GPU... But I used all the lowest res packs for everything i could in the STEP guide. And the game runs smooth as silk. ... It's just these trees that are buggin' me...LOL.. just saw the sticky post about finding missing textures.. i'll take a stab at that...

Do you use Mod Organizer?

And BOSS and WryeBash don't care much for mesh/textures only ESP/ESM, etc.

If I had to guess, assuming it's not your GPU VRAM failing, I'd say you overwrote something that can no longer be referenced.

Thanks.. It's fixed now. I clued in once that how to find missing textures guide directed me to search for the mesh in the mods folders before the bsa i already unpacked -_-... ran a system search for "meshes trees" and the Trees HD mod folder popped up... I almost slapped myself. Disabled Trees HD in Mod Manager and trees look normal now.  Thanks for the help guys. : )

You do not have to disable the mod... it is most likely just a bad extraction from the archive it was in, or a bad install. It happens, most of the time it is easy to find the culprint, and then just reinstall the mod, and try again.

In by far most of the cases you can also see which texture it is since it will have a size of 0kb ... which is just wrong obviously.

Remember that if you are using MO, you still need the NCC Downgrade patch from the MO Nexus page. Without it you will get this unpacking issue.

Ahh, I had no idea about the downgrade patch. No mention of it was made in the STEP guide.. I'll check it out and try to re-install the Trees HD mod and see if that works. Cheers!

Well, Trees are fixed. Now the only things that seem messed up are the Crafting Altars. The meshes and textures aren't missing because they are showing up, and i can use them to craft, but they are showing up totally buggy... Here's what i mean... I can't seem to find any threads regarding this issue on any forums. Will the above mentioned method of finding the missing meshes/textures work in this case?

Definitely a texture issue. It most likely have the proper .dds layers etc. so it will load, but the actual content is all messed up. Probably due to recompression failure.

Thanks for the lead... I managed to fix it very easily. I simply followed the instructions I found HERE for the Skyrim Texture Optimizer, which can be downloaded HERE. Worked like a charm.  : )

Note: For others who encounter this issue, the updated texture optimizer .ini file needs to be edited or you will get an error and the program won't work. Simply open the "Ordenador.ini" file and at the very top, change the letter of the drive path from "D":..., to "C":..., or whatever letter your drive with your skyrim mods is set to. Save the file and the program will now work fine.

The Vanilla Vegetation Overhaul improves textures of trees, plants and grasses, but tries at the same time to keep a very vanilla-like look. This mod does change textures of tree branches, most plants and grasses and also adds new grasses for more variety.

Since there is no "grass only" version of SFO for Skyrim SE, when i saw this mod i thought that it would be the perfect replacement in case of a STEP Special Edition.

The only downside (for me at least) is that there is no Realistic Aspen Trees patch yet.

I haven't seen any mention of this on the forum or google but sorry if I missed it.

What is the process getting DynDOLOD generation to register upscaled trees? I've upscaled 3D Tree pines by 25% and applied the changes to the main and child nodes. I've also done the process of upscaling the collision meshes by extracting and merging through NifUtilSuite. Lastly, I've scaled the 3D tree lod nifs that come with 3D trees. Still, the scale of the lods in-game post generation is only 100% the original size not 125% like I am expecting. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any help or leads!

I've been uninstalling and re-installing some mods, particularly Simply Bigger Trees SE, and I updated a few other mods. Then I noticed something on loading a recent save: trees are completely missing near me. There are trees in the distance, but when I approach them, they disappear.

My saves still have trees, I've even loaded one with a tree in the save screenshot, but when the save loads, the trees are gone. I've even tried a new game and and the same thing happens. So it's not baked into my save.

I use Vortex to manage my mods; I disabled all mods, uninstalled SkyrimSE, deleted the game folder, reinstalled SkyrimSE, and re-enabled all of my mods -- and still no change.

My collection of mods hasn't really changed, except for a few mod updates. The only tree mod I have is Simply Bigger Trees, and all I did was uninstall and reinstall that mod and install the optional HD textures, but that's it.

Apparently SBT involves dynamic terrain, and as far as I know, I don't have any other mods that have anything to do with that. I've looked on the mod's site and it says "weird tree LOD" is usually due to a conflicting mod, but I didn't really install anything new and I can't think of anything I have that would conflict with this.

      Here's my load order: https://pastebin.com/USbr0iLb

Can someone please provide some advice?
