Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

Finally I can see my house from here

You know the price for my mods: blood, sweat and tears. Oh, and your first born.

If you want to help other authors of quality mods then donate to them directly.

For latest information and instructions see the DynDOLOD 2.18 UPDATE POST

What is this?

DynDOLOD is a set of tools based on TES5Edit and TES5LODGen to automatically create a Skyrim mod based on the load order which adds distant LOD for objects to Skyrim. By combining DynDOLOD with TES5LODGen users can create drastically enhanced traditional static LOD plus tree LOD and the new, optional dynamic distant object LOD in a few 'simple' steps.

DynDOLOD is meant for enthusiast modders who are familiar with using TES5Edit. Enthusiast modders have a general knowledge of computers, folders and files, especially Skyrims 'Data' folders and how to install mods safely with a manager or manually.

To fully expand the visual experience and use the additional features offered by TES5LODGen the DynDOLOD package comes with over 1000 new or updated LOD models for objects that were badly missing from the original game like the Skyhaven Temple or landscape features like roads, smaller rocks and dirt cliffs that simply make the distant landscape look much more natural and alive.

What does it do?

It makes Skyrim look like this

Hello Sheson or anyone else who can help:

Anyone have an idea why the solitude bard college LOD would look like this?

the item in question in xedit is SBardsCollegeTower_DynDOLOD_LOD [sTAT:6D01F76A]

See my answer to Leanwolf

It is probably the first part with the meshes. In that case it is enough to ensure the correct LOD meshes are in place and just generate the static LOD again by executing LODGen.exe with the existing export file in Expert mode.

To do so, set Expert=1 in TES5Edit\Edit Scripts\DynDOLOD\DynDOLOD.ini and start TES5Edit and apply DynDOLOD Worlds.pas as normal.

At the top left click the button "LODGen export" and find TES5Edit\Edit Scripts\LODGen_Tamriel.txt or similar then at the bottom click the button "Execute LODGen.exe"

Hello, I'm not sure if this was answered at some point but I get the following graphic glitch when Dyndolod is installaled:

Lightning ball glitch in Dawnstar.

As soon as I uninstall Dyndolod, this glitch disappears. Is there any solution for it? I'm not sure what would cause this, but it happens in an area that is quite heavy on my pc (low fps)-

This is a known bug of SMIM smelter (..\meshes\furniture\smeltermarker.nif) + ENB

Very frustrated.

So I was able to get DYNDOLOD to work on my game a while back, but I decided to move my game to a new SSD for better performance. Got it all modded up with perfect performance playing for several weeks. No major FPS issues, no CTDs. Then I decided to try adding DYNDOLOD again (which I had been hesitant to do because it took a long time to get it to work previously). I did all the things (with the updated files yes!), carefully followed all instructions, etc. and at the end -- infinite loading screens to infinity. I went through this thread post by post and tried every suggestion and every fix to correct the issue. Nothing. I run with 16g ram, i7 proc, GTX 780 Ti so I know hardware is not an issue. I checked all the files double twice, made sure I checked I had all the latest updates for everything, nada. So in the end I decided to give up the ghost and carefully uninstalled all things DYNDOLOD. Only now, NONE of my saves will load. They are all infinite loading screen! I went through all the data folders, everything to try to make sure I got rid of every DYNDOLOD thing in there, no luck. Note that none of these saves were made with DYNDOLOD active because I never got it to work. I really do not want to have to go through all the annoyance and bother of restoring a backup and dealing with all the mod manager stuff. So if anyone might have a clue on help?

Posting about ILS in this thread while not using DynDOLOD and not a single word about how you checked heap memory usage with Memory Blocks Log...!?

I have been modding Skyrim since they had mods for Skyrim. OF COURSE I checked heap memory usage with Memory Blocks log. I should think that would be fairly obvious that anyone who tries to use your mod who doesn't know how to do such a basic thing is a ******. I do that every time I mod. And I did it again just to be absolutely sure of my settings with this mod. Please don't assume everyone who has problems with this mod is an idiot. And even after that, I tried a variety of different settings even despite what the log said just to make sure. What I am saying is that everything was absolutely fine before DYNDOLOD. I could not get DYNDOLOD to work this time, regardless of trying every fix in this thread I could, and now I just want every trace of it gone. But despite uninstalling and deleting everything DYNDOLOD, data files, esp, scripts, lods, etc. etc. -- my saves (made before installing DYNDOLOD) -- none of them will load. They are all ILS. So I am asking, does anyone have any ideas on what might be lingering in my files from DYNDOLOD that may be causing this? I even tried Save Game cleaner on my latest file even though it was made before installing DYNDOLOD. That did not help either.

If no one has any helpful suggestions, then I will just go through the painstaking process of reviving my backup that I made before DYNDOLOD, because anyone who doesn't do THAT is a dickwad. But I'd rather avoid the process if possible.

So you would suggest to manually delete it?

I btw also noticed that after pressing continue, my game just freezes for 5-10 sec before it starts loading. This again is only the case when Dyndolod is installed. Any solution for this?

You eliminated DynDOLOD as the cause by removing all copied/generated files. So obviously something else must be the problem. I can not help with problems caused by something else.

Heap memory filling up is the only known cause for ILS. It has been so far every time. Memory blocks log is the only way to track heap memory usage. Everyone who claimed otherwise found out memory patch was not working. Try Safety Load maybe.

If adding/removing a mod is such a big deal with the current setup I suggest to use a mod manager.

Yes just remove it, the game will use the vanilla mesh again.

You mean "Continue" from the main menu?  DynDOLOD just adds LOD data to a world, it is not modifying menus or loadscreens. Of course the new additional LOD needs to be loaded when a game is loaded.

To be clear, again. My game was perfect with no long loading screens, no CTDs, no ILS issues at all before installing DYNDOLOD. Then it was endless ILS after extremely careful installation, making sure to have the script updates, all the proper utilities, etc. etc. etc. and YES I know how heap memory workkkkkkkkkkkkkkssssssssssssssssss. And then, after completely uninstalling and deleting everything, my previously perfectly working saves were all ILS. Thus, something obviously did not get removed that was associated with DYNDOLOD and I could not find it or figure it out. Despite breaking down every folder in DYNDOLOD's files to try to ferret out the problem. So I wiped my entire Skyrim installation and reinstalled my backup which was made with every single mod and setting except DYNDOLOD and everything works perfectly again. Not a single ILS, not a single CTD, viola.

Sheson, this is an amazing mod and when I did get it to work on my last game, it was awesome. I am actually sorry I moved my game to the new SSD because I have failed to be able to get DYNDOLOD to work this time. Despite bloody doing everything exactly as I had written my own instructions to do because this thing can be quite confusing and the steps and files and updates that need to be included are not altogether clear, whether you may believe so or not. It is awesome and the work put into it is tremendous. However, I am sad that when people come here with issues -- and there have been a lot of people who have struggled very hard to get this mod to work -- there seems to be a lot of backlash against them. I would consider myself a very experienced modder, who has been doing this for many years, and knows just about every trick in the book. Yet, I consider this the most difficult mod ever to get to work properly in any game I have ever modded, especially without ILS issues. It is NOT always heap memory issues, and it just gets very tiring to hear that.

So at this point I will sadly bid goodbye to this mod and go back to the pitiful substitutes that are not even a quarter as good. Because I'm tired of being lashed at because I cannot get this mod to work properly without causing a total mess to my game, despite being a reasonably intelligent person with a long and experienced history of modding a large array of video games, including Skyrim since it first had mods. I am sorry to have wasted your time.

If nothing works for you, then you can always switch off generating dynamic patch of DynDoLOD and use only static LOD generation. This way no papyrus scripts will be running and you can remove/update generated LOD files any moment without special steps. Some features will be lost (animated meshes, light FX), but generated LOD would still be way more detailed than the vanilla one. Like "TES5LODGen on steroids".

I think you need to read this thread more thoroughly again and how I troubleshoot problems with people until they are solved before making claims of "lot of backslash".

You are refusing my help since you obviously do not want to troubleshoot to get the game working with DynDOLOD. How am I supposed to help?

It should be no problem to remove all the files installed to data from the download archive and copied to data from the output folder. A mod manager does this with one or two clicks.

No other game related files in data are secretly created or changed by DynDOLOD World.pas. The manual has more detail in the uninstall section.

If there are still problems after all the files have been removed the cause is obviously something else unrelated to DynDOLOD.

If you wanted to troubleshoot with me, post what I asked for and try the things I suggested. Once the most likely cause for a problem is eliminated the next likely cause will be addressed.

Except the esp data and papyrus scripting uses less memory than the static LOD meshes and textures and only starts working once the game has actually completely loaded :)

I think we can assume that the esp was first amongst the files that were removed while the problem persisted.

Yea you tell em Seshon!  ::P:

Actually I have been noticing a few locations, where I find LOD trees, and small sections of road, chuncks of mountain remain stuck and do not dissapear as I get closer to the billboards. The locations are very very few though.  I am curious about how to improve these issues, but I figured I'd describe the problems before I post about specific locations.

Also  I notice that , sometimes, the windmills aren't on static LOD, or i see the sails but the windmill body lods will not load.  I see a , "pop-in" for the windmill bodies. This is problem is infrequent and inconsistant, sometimes they work just fine.

Other then these couple things dyndo lod works and runs great. I figure I did everything correct with the Load order and install but just these few things I'd like to improve if i can.

Regarding stuck tree LOD:

Does this happen in/around city worldspaces? Then you have a mod that adds those trees in the parent worldspace and an engine limitation does not unload them when in the child world. There is a workaround.

If it happens in the wild, do you have a recent version of xEdit? Check the ..\TES5Edit\TES5Edit_log.txt for "Get xEdit 280715 or newer in case there are LOD trees in loaded cells"

If you have a recent enough version check ..\TES5Edit\TES5Edit_log.txt for "Warning: x duplicate FormID numbers of trees references were detected, excluded from LOD"

Truth is though if you see those messages there should be no stuck tree LOD in the wilderness. You would have to check the form ids of those trees (you can only get form ids from loaded full models, not LOD) and also post what mod they come from.

If static LOD gets stuck after fast travel, enable save on travel. That is so far the only confirmed case. Make a screenshot, get full model form ids / mod if problem persists.

Regarding the windmill buildings I wonder if you still have SkyMills?

For all cases above, check if you still see the LOD model when using tll in console.

Other than that, check with default inis and coc whiterun (new game) if any of the above problems happen as well.

So recently I noted a string of posts on Reddit about unloadable save games. This problem was similar to what I've been having.

The posts:

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/43yc6g/all_new_save_files_on_a_100_hour_playthrough_fail/

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/44g7kh/skyrim_ctds_after_loading_screens_but_does_not/

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/44qs0w/help_save_file_cant_load/

What happens is:

- you play for a while

- at some point, after many hours of playing, you save the game in an interior cell

- after loading this save, upon exiting the interior, any new saves you make on that character are unloadable, regardless of where you save; Skyrim crashes when loading them, so does SaveTool.exe

The thing in common for all of these posters (and myself) seems to be DynDOLOD; one poster said that he managed to fix the problem after removing DynDOLOD from a loadable save and cleaning it. Has anyone else experienced this behavior (30+ hour playthrough, suddenly unable to make loadable saves)? Could this be some bug or conflict in DynDOLOD?

This exact thing happened to me in my previous game and now again with the newer game. So I went through the mods I have installed to these two playthroughs and which I didn't have in my earlier playthroughs. I noticed DynDOLOD and uninstalling it made my new saves loadable again. Then I came here and saw this message. Don't know what exactly causes this problem (mod conflict maybe) but here's what I have noticed.

- In both games it happened after approximately 100 hours

- The .skse save file is "bloated". In my earlier games the size has been max 1.4 MB, usually less and when this problem occurred the size was 4,1 MB

- The saving time is quite long and I presume it's due to that .skse save file. The .ess file is only 16,7 MB which is quite normal after 100 h

Is there a way to see what that .skse save file contains? I hope it would include some hints.
